Broad family history now of people asking “are you RUclipsr?” 😂 Loving this video I’m getting to see areas I haven’t seen before! It’s beautiful in Thailand!
Thanks for another awesome video. The temple looked so pretty! So sad about the smoke. In Canada wildfires happen in the summer (though many of these are human caused), in some recent years there were weeks when you could barely see to the end of the street for the smoke. It really affects your physical and mental health when you can’t see the sky and the sun turns red! Excited to see the rest of your trip on the bike!
Thank you!! It was such a lovely temple, we’ll have to go back when the smoke is gone. Oh god that sounds awful, and I’m complaining when I can’t see the mountains 😂 that sounds terrifying! 😓 Thank you! 🥰
Such a great video showing so much beauty but also some honesty about the negative sides such as the more tourist areas and the burning season. Very balanced and fun to see you guys enjoying it!
Drove from Chiang Mai to Mae Sot I almost stayed overnight in Pai. What a place! Full of weird foreigners, tat clothes, rip off prices, bad attitude from the locals --nah! I just kept driving to Mae Hong Song! Much better there!
Thanks, I speak Thai and the locals were flippant / rude! I told them so and left! The foreign idiots have made the locals disrespectful and I cannot blame them!
@@senianns9522 exactly. the locals and staff who has to deal with foreigners regularly tend to be rude. totally understand given they have to deal with unreasonable people
Thank you for explaining what "burning season" is. I've heard you mention it before and was not sure what it was. We have something similar here in Tennessee, but on a much smaller scale, when they dry out the tobacco. I kind of like the smell, but I'm sure it's way different than what you are experiencing in Thailand. Great video, and thank you for sharing your adventures and knowledge!
I felt I had to explain, for years I didn’t have a clue what it meant because I’ve been lucky enough to avoid it but it’s actually pretty shocking! Haha here the smell is pretty rough, it makes the air really heavy and uncomfortable to breathe if you’re too near it. Thank you! 🥰
Another great video! I think it’s important to show the reality of traveling and am glad that you don’t fall into the “OMG! Everything is soooo amazing” trap! Hope that the burning didn’t affect your bronchitis too much. Also glad to see that Dom got to play dress up! He does love a costume doesn’t he? Looking forward to part 2👍❤
Thanks! And same, I don’t want to lie, it’s quite shocking tbh and I wasn’t aware what it was really like until this week. Luckily I’d pretty much recovered by then so it wasn’t too bad! Haha didn’t realise he’d love it so much 😂 cheers! 🥰
Great video! Beautifuly filmed and so interesting. Good info about not going to the north in February- I was thinking of doing a tour of the north next Feb but I'll go to other regions instead! Thanks!
Thanks!! Yeah it’s worth arranging your trip around avoiding the burning season, it’s such a beautiful place you definitely want to see it while it’s clear! 😊
A lot of my Mum's British friends have been recommending Pai to her but I don't think it's quite her thing, it just looks like Pattaya in the mountains to me 😅 that being said the hot springs and nature spots do look really nice up there so maybe one day we'll visit 😊
Yeah I’ve heard a lot of people say stuff about it being similar to party places in the south. Tbh it felt like being back home there were barely any Thai’s on sight and everyone was just drinking or smoking the green stuff now that it’s legal 😅 but then there was a lot of great stuff to see too, I’d say it’s worth a visit! But don’t go too out the way for it 😅
O yes, mini map on the intro! 💪 :) This town looks lovely and wild at the same time❤. This Burning season looks like hell, this shows some differences in culture and the need to spread knowledge. Here in Poland burning fields is illegal and heavily punished, but we had massive problem with it for years. Add to that the worst air quality in the EU and you can understand why most of the kids have asthma and other respiratory problems. I hope Thailand will understand this quickly.
Haha knew I had to get the map in! It took ages to work out how to do it though 😂😂 yeah it’s pretty horrendous, unfortunately it’s been common practise for hundreds of years and while they try to discourage it, the machinery needed to do it without burning is unaffordable to a lot of farmers so they’re stuck doing it, someone I spoke to said last year they started getting nosebleeds from it it was so bad 😣 hopefully it doesn’t get much worse! Good on Poland for banning it though, people shouldn’t have to suffer their health because of it 😞
Thank you so much for the video. Love it. I have a question, I want to go from Chaing Mai to Mae Hon Song and would love to do it (solo) on a rented bike but worried it may be too dangerous unless you are a super experienced rider? I do cycle a lot and rode motorbikes in Indonesia on some trips but wouldnt consider myself an expert rider. Would you suggest it would be best to go by car?
@@alfonsohorcajada4399 Thanks! The roads are relatively quiet throughout Mae Hon Song, however there are a lot of steep bends throughout. If you’re confident on the pin bends I’d say go for it but be cautious. It was an incredible experience, and I think it’d be much more enjoyable on a bike than a car. I’ve heard people complain that went by car because there are hundreds of bends they got bad car sickness, but if you’re worried about going by bike it’d still be a fun trip by car once you get past the road to Pai 😅💖
Yeah it must be pretty similar, though here the fires are usually man made. It could be largely prevented through using machinery instead sadly but it’s expensive and the slash burn method costs nothing for farmers
Lovely and eyeopenig video for me!The burning season got to me😔maby a farm reform is in place,or is the need for rice so big.Probablly the farm burning spreads on other greenery.
Thank you! 💖 It’s the cheapest and easiest way to remove crop biowaste from the fields and a lot of farmers aren’t able to get the necessary machinery that’ll do it without burning. I believe the government has tried to offer incentives to stop farmers doing it but it’s just such common practise it’s hard to get change to happen. And yeah I think that just be it, it must spread from the farms most of the time 😞
Yeah throughout the whole Mae Hong son province there was a lot of forest on fire while we were driving around, very sad to see. Luckily in Chiang Mai it’s been okay until this week, it’s pretty bad today!
Wat Prathat Doi Suthep and practically all temples in the North, Northeast (Isan) and in Laos as well have two Nagas (mythical serpent-like beast living underworld) guarding the steps leading into the temple. It is believed that Naga King is the underworld ruler and is a devout Buddhist disciple. Thus, sometimes you can see an image of Buddha meditating under the tree with Naga King guarding behind with his 7 heads above Buddha's head to protect him from wind/rain. There are also standalone Naga statute along Meking River on both sides of Thailand and Laos, the most famous of which is at Nakhon Phanom with 7 heads. It might be noted that one of the largest royal barge of Thai King has 7-heads Naga as its head. The mortal enemy of Naga is Garuda (a mythical flying beast) which is supposed to be God Rama's mount. Indonesia and Thailand deem Garuda as high class mythical beast and Indonesia's National Carrier is "Garuda". Garuda is also the official symbol of Thai King, thus official document would have Garuda symbol at its head. When there is an official royal announcement from the King or Palace, the initial TV screen features Garuda for a minute before the royal text appears together with reading sound.
A full sized plane in the road, Fled Flintstone, a cat cafe, avocado shakes...I wonder why this was titled why to avoid Pa... oh Fires aside, I was bummed when the video ended because I wanted more!

In Thailand there is a lot of animal cruelty and a different attitude to animals, you’ll see a lot of emaciated animals with patches of fur missing, although the ginger kitty needed a good brush these guys were all pet cats from the house behind the cafe, I saw them wandering in and out, and these cats were definitely looked after I promise! The black and white cat we played with a lot because he kept coming over for belly rubs, he was really sociable and friendly. The ginger cat had a grumpy face but he kept curling up for naps in the cushions and chairs and seemed pretty happy albeit a bit scruffy. There is an altogether different view towards pets here, for example a lot of people won’t even let their pets come in the house and they have to live outside and you come across a lot of unhappy, not looked after animals which is really upsetting, I didn’t feel like these guys were unhappy or not looked after otherwise I would’ve definitely called it out ♥️

Haha definitely one of the most random moments here so far! 😂
did you take all your belongings whilst biking? or did you leave them in a hostel?
Left them at the hostel occasionally but mostly had everything with us!
Riding a motorbike is better than riding in a car due to so many winding bends around this loop. You would not get much motion sickness on a bike.
Very true! 😅
Pai it’s great place where I have been there two months ago.
There is /was a huge forest fire too in that area besides the normal agriculture burning . CM was perfect from nov til two days ago.
