Hi everyone, thank you so much for watching! I absolutely loved travelling in northern Thailand and the Mae Hong Son Loop was truly a rider's paradise. For more photos from my trip: megankaptein.com/mae-hong-son-loop/
I was in Chaing Mai for 6 mo in 2017-18. How did you manage to do the Pai Tour with a jacket on...?! It's soo freaking hot even without the jacket... Did your trip take place last winter or recently? And I also lost a 1K dollar phone. My story was a random guy actually tracked me down in Chiang Mai and said, "Is this your phone?" Thai culture is very honest and non materialistic. They are a beautiful people untainted by leftists western culture...
Hey, its the Great One here... Wow, what a trip you had! It reminds me the mainland Chinese trip we took a couple of years ago, but just a little more developed over all. I enjoyed watching the beautiful sceneries as well as the cute little people you met along the ride.., they were SO very interesting to me because they were SO none western! They were not contaminated and unspoiled :). Observations: 1.The different delicious foods you had made my month watery, in a literal sense! All of sudden I realized I had just missed a few seconds of clip because I was so busy swallowing my saliva! But I went back to it... .I didn't miss anything, no worries! 2. It seemed there were not too much meat in the dishes..., mostly are different types of vegetables..., I think I might will hungry 20 minutes later after the meal..., no wonder those cute little people were all looked fit.... . Not like us, grew up on meat and potatoes, ha, and cabbages of course! Love it! 3. How did it feel like to sleep in a mosquito net? I noticed there was one in your room above the bed. Was it hot during the night without AC? 4. Why did even bother to draw the directional dividing lines on the roads :).., geeez! It seemed they had very little regards in respect of which side of the road they ought to stay on! You gotta felt all of sudden you were snatched by the Darth Vader, along with your 500x, and dropped you off on the roads of Devonshire England somewhere... . 5. It seemed there was a thumb sized bruise on your upper left arm..., was it left behind by the Darth Vader? 6. Most of all, please forgive me to say it again, you are BEAUTIFUL!!! Just couldn't help noticing it as a red blooded man. P.S. Hey, bless me with more than just a heart emoji this time. Do you like to ride cruisers by any chance? Sorry typos: "be hungry", "of the clip", "did they even bother.."

My Canadian friend, Catherine (who lives in Chiangmai), recommended this vlog to me. You did a brilliant job of documenting your ride around the beautiful hills of northern Thailand. Thank you also for your kind words about Thai people. I have subscribed to your channel, and have watched some of your other vlogs, including your first one dedicated to the memory of your friend, Gabriel. So sorry for your loss. Your vlogs are well put together and are very interesting. Keep up the good work. Look forward to more from you. 👍🏽🙏🏽

I fell in love with Thailand when I went there in 2019.. I can't wait to go back and do like you, a road trip by motorbike. I love your video with these beautiful places and the Thai people so welcoming. Thank you, for making me dream a little with these images.
Thank you so much for this great video! I lived for nearly 4 years in Chiang Mai and road about 80k km with my own motorbike, many times the MHL. So many wonderful memories and I miss it very much. Thank you again, well done!
Nice video! In the last two years, I've gone to Chiang Rai with my wife and son and enjoyed motorbiking in the Thai countryside. There is something nice or amazing around every curve. The food is great as is the beautiful land, but the best part is the kind and generous Thai people.
Looks like a great trip. I have been to Patia Beach in Thailand. And British Columbia.. BEAUTIFUL places. Compliment of the United States Navy. Your adventures are more fun. Thanks

Thank you for sharing amazing vlog. I also did ride Mae Hong Son Loop before, but did not see that beautiful sunrise! I should come back to ride again!
Really enjoyed that, thanks. My wife and I spent 4 weeks travelling Vietnam by bike, then 2 weeks in Thailand afterwards, mainly on Koh Chang. We both felt very differently about Thailand to Vietnam and fancied returning one day to tour the north by bike. Well, I think your video has sealed the deal! Thanks again. Jamie
Jamie, that's wonderful that you could enjoy motorcycle travels with your wife and hope you get to ride the north together some day! I highly recommend Nung at M25 if you need a bike rental. She's a gem!
Awesome. I did Mae Hong Son loop with 4088corners from Malaysia. In total I did 6600km drive from south Malaysia to North Thailand. Amazing Thailand indeed

Hello Megan, This is a beautiful video. You did an awesome job with the camera, It is sharp and very colourful 👍👍. The winding roads in Thailand sure is more fun to ride on. The cave and the hot-spring looks like a peaceful place to relax. Wish I had one of them little house on top of the mountain with the view looking over the landscape. I must say ; you couldn't have timed the trip any better. You even managed to see the colourful flower show 😁. Thank you for sharing your adventure 🏍. Take care and stay safe 👋.
Thanks so much for watching, Dave, and noticing the little details. I did a lot of research before my trip to choose the best time to go and be able to see and do as much as possible, however going before covid hit was pure luck, and I am really thankful that I got the chance to go before the borders all shut down.
I love, love, love my Sleek Black Beauty ('16 CB500X). Now I want to take the Mae Hong Son loop next winter. Thanx for your inspiring video. Cheers from Fairbanks, Alaska!
Great video thank you for posting it Megan. Thailand is an amazing place to visit. Unfortunately when we visited my wife and I both got tummy bugs which put a definite downer on things. But will never forget the kindness and courtesy of the Thai people. I;ve been riding bikes for over 40 yrs but was to scared to ride amongst their crazy traffic.....you're a star in that regard :-)
Nice trip, Thailand is one of my favorites places to visit. The food is great, and the country is beautiful. Your video capture a lot of the wonders that Thailand offers.
I love watching your videos because you're so good at enjoying what you do. I can fake being social, but at heart I'm a big introvert. I live vicariously through you (and a lot of other RUclipsrs). I'll be getting back into riding soon after a 20 year break, and you are downright inspiring. Thanks again. Stay safe and be well!
Just seen your chat on Itchy Boots. I am recent to your Chanel Megan. I like how you got into Motorcycling and your trips. The main thing is to be yourself and NOT TRY TO COPY others. Thumbs UP before i even begin to watch your video.
Very nice and timely video! I plan to do the loop soon, maybe next week. I had originally planned to ride my Yamaha NMAX scooter for this, but after returning a couple days ago from a nearly 3,000km ride from Chiangmai south to Ko Phayam, with a detour to Bangkok on the way back north, I can safely say it is not a comfortable long distance touring machine! I will rent either a CB 500 or a V-Strom and have a more enjoyable ride! We were in Chiangmai at the same time! I was wondering if I would see myself in your flower festival footage... What a great day that was. I like the cooler weather during the "winter", but I have to say I'm really loving the rainy season. Everything is so lush and green now, with fantastic clean air. And I'm with you on the Khao Soi. Yum. The language of food indeed...
Hi Megan, I did the ride up into the golden triangle in 1989, it was mostly dirt road then, you can guess I am a bit older than you, a very well made vlog that i enjoyed very much, well done! Many people never step out into the world, travelling is the best education a person can have, it enriches your whole life, I am still riding (BMW GS), I can't regularly do all day in the saddle anymore, but am still good for a few days, best wishes👍
Just watched your Northern Vietnam trip and subscribed last week and now you're uploading Northern Thailand. I'm Thai and I love motorcycles. I did some trips long time ago but never had a chance to do this Mae Hong Sorn loop. It's still in my bucket list.
Thank you so much for your support! I have nothing but good things to say about my time in northern Thailand. 🇹🇭 Hope you will get the opportunity to go some day!
You do a wonderful job highlighting the best of the areas you visit. It makes a viewer want to visit them. It was nice you were able to get a bike you were familiar with. It looked like there was a larger variety on bike size in Thailand as compared with Vietnam. Thank you for the tour, and another great video!
Thanks for your kind words! It was definitely a significantly larger bike and I stayed almost entirely on road for this loop. I was happy to have a smaller bike in Vietnam for off-roading purposes because it gave me confidence to venture into more difficult terrain!
Ok, I admit it; I am a wee bit envious. Especially as I sit with my leg propped up being iced (blew out knee... no riding for a bit). And I suddenly have a hankering for Panang currie! Thanks for sharing your adventure. 🇨🇦
Oh no! Bummer about your knee, but good thing you can most likely get some decent Panang in your part of the world too? (I hope!) Wishing you a swift and thorough recovery, Lyle!
Hi, I have been to Thailand twice. I remember going to Chiang Mai and Phuket and it was a very beautiful place. You are always grateful for the way you show good videos while traveling to beautiful places. I'm very happy to see your video, and I'm so happy to feel like I'm also traveling.
Megan Kaptein Unfortunately, I couldn't get on because I didn't have a license for a motorbike at that time. From now on, I have a plan to travel to beautiful catholic churches in South Korea once a month.^^
nice one. i recommend coming back in October or during the rainy season. sadly you hit a comparably dry January. rainy season starts in June, and the nature is so lush and green and the rivers and waterfalls full. and the Pai bamboo bridge looks so different if all you can see is green and the mountains. but i guess you have seen that in photos. thanks and keep up the good work ! come back soon...
Thank you, Olaf! I have seen some photos from Pai bridge while the rice is in season and it looks so vibrant. I can only imagine how stunning it must be since it was already breathtaking during the dry season. 😊

Hi Megan, such a beautiful country and lovely, honest people along with the breathtakingly beautiful flower festival, make this video so enjoyable and a wonderful first insight for me into the beauty of Thailand.
Great video Megan! You captured the beauty and culture of Thailand. I'm a fellow Canadian living in Chiang Mai. I fell in love with Thailand too. I have done the run from Chiang Mai to Pai and now will go to Mae Hong Son. I had a Goldwing back in Canada but now a Yamaha Filano 125cc I'm enjoying it just as much. Thank you for the wonderful video! I get that you appreciate beauty and are grateful for every day. Cheers! Martin
Martin, the Filano 125 sounds like the perfect bike for the streets of Chiang Mai. Maybe I'll see you there next time I go! 😊 I really appreciate you watching and for the kind words on my video. My pleasure and thanks for coming along for the ride, once again. 😊
Thank you for sharing amazing vlog. I also did ride Mae Hong Son Loop before, but did not see that beautiful sunrise! I should come back to ride again!
Absolutely! I‘ve been told there’s some great riding in Nan province as well.
@@MeganKaptein Check this out for Nan.

Just amazing - just put the same “loop” on my travel agenda 😎👍
Awesome. I did Mae Hong Son loop with 4088corners from Malaysia. In total I did 6600km drive from south Malaysia to North Thailand. Amazing Thailand indeed
You really hit all the highlights! I did a solo loop back in December 2019 and it was one of the best rides I've done for while.
I took a trip to Thailand and it’s a truly amazing place. Your video production has really arrived to the Hollywood professional level.
Wow, thank you, Stan. That's really nice of you to say!
Megan Kaptein-I dropped another plug for you on Big Bald Head (Norman Reedus) that he really needs to do a “Ride” with you🏍
I would never skip any advertisements from any of my favourite, RUclipsrs.
Thanks again Megan.
As always, great video.
Thanks for your support, Ly!

Thanks for a beautiful adventure vlog Megan. You’re a natural born (moto) traveller.
Thanks so much, Bruce. I am lucky to be able to do what I love!
I love, love, love my Sleek Black Beauty ('16 CB500X). Now I want to take the Mae Hong Son loop next winter. Thanx for your inspiring video. Cheers from Fairbanks, Alaska!
Winter would be a good time to trade up Alaska weather for some Thailand sun. 😊 Thanks for watching!
I love how courageous you are..in the west we were taught not to take food from strangers. Enjoy your adventure. Wish you nothing but the best.
Thank you! You too!
Thailand is the paradise of visitor!!!
Indeed!
Oh that’s too bad you got a bit sick. Hopefully you can try again in the future.
Nice trip, Thailand is one of my favorites places to visit. The food is great, and the country is beautiful. Your video capture a lot of the wonders that Thailand offers.
Thanks for watching, Jamie! Appreciate your comment.
Thanks for watching! All the best to you too.
Just seen your chat on Itchy Boots.
I am recent to your Chanel Megan. I like how you got into Motorcycling and your trips. The main thing is to be yourself and NOT TRY TO COPY others.
Thumbs UP before i even begin to watch your video.
Thanks so much, Derek! I agree, authenticity seems to be key here on RUclips.
A moto journey I’ve done many times now seen through a woman’s perspective, brilliant and beautifully crafted,.
Thank you, Roger! Safe riding!
Rona, I do miss the Khao soi! If you do the MHS loop, visit Nung at M25. She is the best! 😊
🇹🇭 Hope you will get the opportunity to go some day!
need to process visa first for vn entry Right ?
Hi Megan. did this tour of Mae Hong Son Loop last year with tour guide Miles Nadin of Thai Motorcycle Tours but in reverse direction. It is amazing
Fantastic! It must have been nice to have a guide too so you can just let them do the planning and trust you're going to see all the great spots!
Colourful Parade, Colourful People and a nice ride , video and story. Thanks, Megan.
Thanks so much for watching, Derek! There was indeed no shortage of colour and beauty on this trip and I'm honoured to be able to share it with you.
Beautiful scenery and colors. Wow!
I agree! Thank you for watching. 😊
winters inVancouver is a good reason to get out from Nov. to April ! Just like North N.Y.
Absolutely!
Hope to do my long overdue Mae Hong Son Loop trip after the pandemic is over. Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip here. ♥️
Just did the loop on a Cb500x last month. What an incredible experience!!
The road from Mae Hon Son to Pai and onto chiang mai had the best roads
The roads were very twisty, but I encountered quite a bit of traffic around that part.
Yeah its the busier side of the loop. Hoping to visiting British Columbia for the first time from UK. Do you recommend any goo 5 day routes?
Hi, I have been to Thailand twice. I remember going to Chiang Mai and Phuket and it was a very beautiful place. You are always grateful for the way you show good videos while traveling to beautiful places. I'm very happy to see your video, and I'm so happy to feel like I'm also traveling.
Oh that’s so nice that you got to go! Did you also ride motorbikes while you were there?
Megan Kaptein
Unfortunately, I couldn't get on because I didn't have a license for a motorbike at that time.
Omg what a trip! The video and editing is fabulous. And over 4000 curves...a bikers dream. You are a very brave young lady!
Glad you enjoyed it, Dana! It truly is a rider's paradise around there!
life is short, PLAY HARD! luv your channel Megan.

Hi Bell. That's nice that you can see so many beautiful places in the world from at sea!
Nice video! We've been there too! Great to be here. Traveling is beautiful, especially to capture and share with others! We try to do that as much as possible! Lots of Travel fun!
Cool Vlog, just what I needed to prepare myself for the MHS Loop. Many thanks !
That holiday was timed perfectly just before the pandemic:)
Friendly people + interesting scenery = great video👍
Thank you so much! I was very lucky with the timing and really thankful I got to go when I did! 🙏
Great video .Northern of Thailand always beautiful culture. I like to go there every year and different season also make me fall in love there . Thanks for your great video .
It is indeed such a beautiful culture. Thanks for watching!
My thanks to you Megan and Team. Nicely Done!
Thanks Ian! No team for this one... just me and my tripod. 😉
Hi Megan, such a beautiful country and lovely, honest people along with the breathtakingly beautiful flower festival, make this video so enjoyable and a wonderful first insight for me into the beauty of Thailand.
The flower festival was undoubtedly a highlight! Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate you watching and for the kind words on my video. I am indeed deeply grateful for the opportunity to travel, ride and experience life to the fullest and it's my joy to share it with you through my content. 🙏

A bit of a blast from the past 2001 was the last time I was in that area it looks like the roads have improved considerable, makes me want to go back to Thailand & spend time on a bike this time.
Jim, I was pretty impressed with road quality overall!
Megan.....really great rally of adventure touring folks happening in Idaho Mid-August, would be great to have you attend and meet a lot of new great riders.
Thanks for the invite, Tobin! We'll have to see if the borders are open by then.
Megan Kaptein sounds good! Hopefully you can make it, would be great to meet and ride with you. Is there a better way to stay in touch? Feel free to email via my work website, www.tobinbennett.com. Take care for now!
Nice to have a woman motovlogger to watch and get a female riders point of view. Thanks for sharing your adventures
Thanks so much for watching, Erin!
Thank you so much for the beautiful videos...bring back lots of memories for me. Been there two times during the 35mm camera roll film😉😉 days... don't have the video recording that time and road is unlike in your video. Been there...done that. Really miss it a lot. Will be going there in 2024... ride all the way from Malaysia.
Great part of the world. I sailed around Malaysia and Thailand for 2 years, and regularly head back to Langkawi. Maybe a riding trip next time is in order. :) Great vid showing the friendliness and welcoming Thai folk. Thanks Megan
Wow, a sailing trip in that area must have been positively epic. What an experience to have under your belt. Thanks for watching!
Amazing video production Megan, I enjoyed every minute!...interesting, educational and fun :)
Ahh thank you so much! It was warms my heart to know you enjoyed my content.
Thank you for this absolutely beautiful and amazing video. It was a real joy to watch. All the best and ride safe.
What an amazing country so beautiful ❤️ the vid thanks 👌🏻
It really is! Thank you for watching!
thanks for sharing your advanture with us ! traveling in southeast asia on a motorcycle has always been my dream. i went to thailand bangkok/pattaya last winter but i havent got a license yet at that time. after i come back to quebec ( where i live ). i made up my mind of getting a moto license and i made it in september. i feel so additcted to motorcycling (done 17000km traveling around eastern canada so far ) will definately come back to thailand and rent a motorcycle one day !
Wow good for you to ride so much this year! Thailand is such a wonderful place to explore by motorcycle, but it's definitely a different riding style than in Canada haha.
Excellent video that brought back some great memories. I did the same route as you 27 years ago on a motorbike that wasn't nearly as nice as yours!! I have been back to Chiang Mai many times since but never done another motorcycle tour. I plan too now I am in my 50's and hope to have more time on my hands.
Again, an inspirational video!
Wow cool that you did the trip back in the 90s! My bike was definitely overkill for the trip. I'm sure even a scooter would have been fun. 😊
@@MeganKaptein I liked your choice of bike even if only for storage. Having said that I would do it on a Yamaha Aerox 155. The Kawasaki Versys 650 would be my choice though. One reason is they are manufactured in Thailand so parts easy- ish to get.
