Thanks Nelson! Having just been to Rome we'd agree with that. It also makes for a nice place to base yourself if you want to visit Sorrento, Herculaneum and Naples. It is cheaper and less crowded and offers some great local restaurants too.
You prolly dont care but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last few days =)
@@samuelandaudrey We will be in Pompeii around Jan 23, 2020. You guys kept mentioning how cold it was in December. What were the temps? We are from Iowa, usa and we are used to 0 degree temps this time of year. Great video btw!
Have loved watching your travel videos and were very informative for our Europe trip July Aug 2018...and still enjoy watching them now for places we visited on our trip...all the way from New Zealand
Pompeii is so beautiful. Great video as always :) I hope it's fine if I correct you on one thing. It's a common misconception that the stones in the street were stepping stones. People used to walk in the street not on what we call the sidewalk. That was used for merchants selling their products. The stones were actually a form of street signs similar to ours. They showed if the street was a one way (two stones) or a two way (three stones) street for horse-carts.
Pompeii needs minimum three full days if you are interested in Roman archaeology. It is, after all, a city, one of four obliterated by the volcano. One of the great concerts in that amphitheatre was David Gilmour, PF's guitarist - see Comfortably Numb and SOYCD of course, right here on YT He and the premium artists he's assembled play the Floyd tracks better than I've ever heard before. If you're going to Naples/Pompeii with an interest in the archaeology then GO ALONE!!! I did, and stayed in a little guest house, and the bloke who ran it was tremendously helpful, offering lifts into town or to that station. He spoke so many languages that I felt ashamed of only being fluent in one and a bit.
I ate a margarita for the first time ever because of your video. That's the power of your presentation. Thanks for the background on Pompeii being swamped by the volcano. You did a good job showing the old and new parts of the city. A lot of information in a short time. One downside is the focusing. Sometimes, the shots are out of focus. Overall, I would this video to anyone. I've seen it several times.
The blurry focus was when you were talking into the camera with your face centered. This happened two or three times. The blurriness is a distraction when everything is out of focus. Overall, your shots are sharp. Craigo's Pizzeria in Austin TX makes their Margarita Pizza with sliced roma tomatoes laid on top of the mozzarella cheese which melted over the entire pie. There is almost no flavor. There is no sauce. The tomatoes are the sauce. I ate the entire extra-large pizza because I was starving. However, I would not recommend that pizza from that restaurant. Your pizzas from the Pompeii and Naples restaurants looked moist and colorful. I believed you when you two remarked how good the pizzas were. I like how you vary the shots with slow motion. One recommendation that I have for you two as a photographer is for you to wear neutral colors with no ornate designs. Your clothing in some shots attract too much attention which detracts from your subject. Regardless, you two are making a living with your passion! I'm enjoying the fruits of your labor. I'm 54 years old, and I'm glad that I'll die long before you two so that I can continue to be entertained and informed forever.
I went during high season to Pompeii and it wasn't that bad. There are so many streets that it just gets spread out. The tours don't show you all the cool stuff either so they are concentrated in the "main" areas.
great vid guys!! thank you. I'll be in Italy this coming MOnday, God's willing. Question: I have watched vids about tours on Pompeii etc, no one mention where the bathrooms are or if there are drinking water; I'm taking my water bottle with filter just in case. Thanks!
You mention very little about the town of Pompeii itself. Of coarse the draw is the ruin site but what can you tell us about the city itself? Is going to the ruin site the only attraction. Is the town of Pompeii worth staying a night?
Thanks Scott! It is a nice location as it nearby Naples as well for a day trip without the big city feeling. You can use it as a base for other day trips as well.
I love your videos. How far are the ruins from the actuall city of New Pompeii? Is it walkable for lunch? We will be taking a train from Sorrento to Pompeii.
How do you determine what your food budget will be? Is it a day to day, or meal to meal plan? I was thinking that if I knew where I was going to have a large meal I'd obviously cheap out on the other two, but you guys seem to discover amazing places all day long. How do you choose where to spend and where to save? (Of course please share anything else beyond what I asked, I love all your tips and suggestions...🤗)
Pompeii is beautiful! my family and I were there during the summer of 2016 and let me tell you it was boiling! the weather was crazy that day it was so windy in the beginning and then the sun came out and oh my goodness was it hot! but it didn't matter we enjoyed our trip.
Krisia Vaca Yes. 2016 was one of the hottest summers we experienced in Naples. I remember clearly summer were hot, but not so much awful to bear when I was a kid in the seventies, and there was lesser humidity than today too, so no sweating at all. More! If you take a look at the sun at six or seven P.M. today it is still burning hot, really like a burning coin pin out right in the middle of the sky. When in the past I remember the sun at 7 P.M. could be spotted for some seconds with bare eyes as it was already sunsetting and changing color due to lower position in the sky and lesser burning in aspect than today. Today in XXI century the sun it still looks hot like it was high noon upto very advanced sunset! I am a living witness of the climate changings.
Hi, it's a good stuff, I've be following for a while now. This time Pompeii brought me here. We'll be there in the first days of October. What's the weather like in Campania in October?
That's what we are aiming for. Nice warm days, but no scorching heat! Hopefully it won't be raining, but we keep all the underground Naples for a rainy day. Thanks again! Bon voyage!
And in the centre of the modern city of Pompei it is also interesting to visit the Sanctuary, that is one of the most visited churches in Italy for the devotion of the cult to Virgin Mary. It is interesting to see the Ex-Voto museum. Ex-Voto are testimonies and gifts made to the sanctuary by those who found themselves in distress and/or danger for their lives and invoked Virgin Mary and then being saved. You can see hundreds and hundreds silver plates shaped with the form of the arts and organs of the body that according to the faithfuls were saved by intercession of Virgin Mary grom amputation or during operations (livers, kidneys, hearts), models and paintings of boats in danger at sea (all with various degrees of artistic skills, from naïf to very skilled ones), dozens of photos of the people who were saved, etcetera. Very touching museum. When I was a kid I found very creepy this parade of silver limbs with their naïf design forms, but when an adult I can understand the piety behind these strange gifts and the fear that these people suffered.
Just jump on the train and go to Pompeii Scavi. You can get to Herculaneum (Scavi) on the same train line. If staying you should stay near Sorrento and get the train in. Naples is a bit rough as a holiday destination.
I have seen some videos made of tourists going around pompei and I felt like punching those people as they had little or no respect for their surroundings. That place is a cemetery of sorts, people died there so them doing yoga up columns and acting like fools did no favours to antiquity. You guys on the other hand were very respectful, full of information and I just loved the fact you enjoyed yourselves!! Thank you for the share ❤️❤️❤️
Sam and Aud, im from England but you should try Arezzo in Tuscany, or Giulianova (6 miles of beach!!!) just a tip from one of your subscribers (Still putting weight on watching your videos!!!) :p

Remember that with 13 euro ticket you can visit Pompeii, but with 15 euro "Archeological Circuit Ticket" you can visit Herculaneum and Oplontis too paying once, if you organize your trip to see all the sites in only one day. 😊
