Brian you've made my day. Absolutely love Pompeii and agree with everything you said. We went on a guided tour for about 3hours it was very cheap, informative and worth every penny ( highly recommended ) and then approximately 3hours on our own. Watching your video brought back so many happy memories of our visit. Will be watching this video again over the weekend. Thanks Mate......
A guided tour is a great idea here. Especially if the tour guide could get you into some of the locked places like Casa del Menandro. We're usually happier with the audio guide, but a tour guide may have been more useful in this case. And then sticking around afterward to explore on your own - you guys definitely did it right. Thanks for the ideas! -Brian
hi, did you buy the guide there in Pompeji or did you buy it online?? If so, could you give me a tipp where you buy it? My friend and I are goinig to visit pompeji to and a few tips would be great! :) Thank you in advanced.
This was so great to watch! As a young boy back in the 60's I remember reading my first book from the library on the story of Pompeii.... and I dreamed of someday getting to visit this place. It took me nearly fifty years but I did finally get there! Absolutely one of the coolest things I saw while in Italy.
Amazing point of view, guys! I'm a tourist guide in Pompei, I used to spend my life in there before covid. I guided thousand tourists doing tours. Very good information about Circumvesuviana, I know how many times people get wrong direction from Naples. Pompeii is huge, right! How its history is deep in times. Its unicity is give us deeply information about the roman dailylife. we know their names, we know their business, we know how they used to live. I fell in love with pompeii when i was a little girl and never will stop to love her.
Yes, Pompeii is such an amazing city. It must be so great to be a guide there, so you get to visit so frequently and really get to know the place. I hope the tourists return soon so you can get back to guiding them. -Brian
I love the history. Of Pompei and found your video. Well I feel like I’ve been there! Loved it. You are both chill and informative. So fascinating to realize they were not so different. No technology for them but they created luxurious baths and homes and theaters. Had water sources and sewers. It was a metropolis that catered to a variety of tastes. It looks just like it does in the movie. But to see it in person is very special. Thank you for providing this great view of Pompei.
Glad you enjoyed the video. As someone who loves the history of the place, we truly hope you're able to go experience it for yourself sometime. You'll absolutely love it!
I went on a tour here that lasted about 2 hours. I wish i spent the whole day! It really was amazing and there was so much I didn't get to see. I will definitely be back! Great video!

This was great to watch. I was there in July and it makes me want to go back again. And Kai is walking so amazingly well! He is a natural born explorer just like his parents.
How was your visit in July? Did you find a lot of places were locked up? And yes, once Kai figured out how to put one foot in front of the other, he's been learning fast. It's fun to watch him run now! -Brian
I'll bet it is! Ah time. It does go so quickly. Kai is lucky to have the video chronicles of your lives. :) And I did find a lot of places locked up. Wow, thank you so much for such a nice compliment on the video. Thank you for watching and commenting - sorry I'm just now getting around to responding. Things have been crazy busy for us lately! Hope you two are doing well and staying safe. -Brian
10:30, sorry to report the bones are inside if they were the original casts 😔 the casts were formed when the archeologists were digging and started hitting air pockets with bones. Then they decided to fill the air pockets with plaster and that created the casts we see today. I think it was the ash that compacted around the bodies and then they decomposed to form the molds. Apologies for any inaccuracies, it's been a few years but that's what we studied in school. Would love to visit Pompeii sometime!
Hi Jaslyn, you're correct. I should have clarified in the video, the specific casts we were looking at, the ones next to the Forum, are not the original casts, they're replicas, so there were no bones in them. The originals are located throughout the Archaeological Park, mostly in ruins that were locked, so they didn't make it into the video. -Brian
Very well done! So informative video! So crowded but you managed it so well especially with Kai who is such a great traveler!! How old was he on that video?? He behaves so well!! 🙏
Thank you! Kai was 15 months old in this video. He's a great traveler. Covid was hard on us all - he was thrilled to get back on a plane after the pandemic. :)
wow what a nice video. if you want to visit another archaeological site in Campania, I recommend Paestum. There are Greek temples from 500 BC . If you go there one day, don't forget to taste the buffalo mozzarella. as food and art, we Italians are the best. ... for all the rest, we are a disaster 😅
hahaha, yes, I agree that you have the best food and art for sure. Next time we're in the area, we'll check out Paestum. I just did a quick google search and it looks incredible!! Thanks for the recommendation. And my wife LOVES the buffalo mozzarella, so we'll definitely try it there. :) -Brian
Really like this video as it's shows a skeptic like myself why I should go. How long do you recommend to spend as want to do Mt vesuvius same day and have another day on amalfi coast and 2 days in naples
We spent the entire day at Pompeii and likely still missed a few things. It is possible to hike Vesuvius and visit Pompeii in the same day, but you definitely won't have enough time to see all of Pompeii, it's just too big. Since we didn't do both in the same day, I'd suggest checking out this blog post from some people who did, they've laid out a few different options for you: www.alongdustyroads.com/posts/pompeii-vesuvius-one-day
Some years back, I imported/bought online, a massive book on Pompeii. Unfortunately, the government authorities (one of those in S.E.Asia) confiscated it without giving a reason (I suppose due to nudity in some murals). I thought the book would be a sort of substitute for visiting the place, given limited financial and time bullets. Now I think I'll just have to squeeze in Pompeii (and/or Herculaneum) into a future tour of Italy.
That's really weird that they took your book, but yes, hopefully you can go in person sometime. It's much better in real life than in the books, for sure.
Hi Perfect Little Planet, i watched a couple of your videos about Central Park. This one is very good. I was always interested about Pompeii. Can you imagine what it must have been like for the people when the volcano erupted?
It must have been such a crazy time. I heard that there was some warning, so a lot of people evacuated the city, but even if they left, it would have been crazy to come back and your town is just gone - totally buried. -Brian
True. We didn't book ahead because we had some flexibility on which day we'd go, and we wanted to make sure to go on a sunny day since you're exposed to the weather all day in Pompeii. You can't change the date if you book your tickets online.
😉 Around 10:44, you made a statement that you would have been walking in sewage. Not so! Those stones were strategically placed to keep pedestrians feet dry. They actually had sofisticated plumbing!
I thought the raised stones Isa is walking across kept feet dry while crossing the street, but I was walking up the middle of the street - isn't that where the sewage flowed? That's what we learned, at least.
Hello, new sub! I was wondering if it is best to just buy the tickets there or should we buy them before going? What website do you recommend to purchase?
Buy everything there. The train tickets at the station, and the Pompeii entry tickets at the ticket booth on arrival. No need to buy anything in advance. And that will give you some flexibility in case plans change last minute.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE POMPEII AND SEE HOW THE PEOPLE WHO WERE LIVING IN POMPEII LIVED AND SEE THE HOUSES THAT THE PEOPLE WHO WERE LIVING IN POMPEII 2000 YEARS AGO BEFORE MOUNT VESUVIUS ERUPTED IN 79AD AND THE HOT ASH KILLED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO WERE LIVING IN POMPEII AND THEY HAVE FOUND LEAD PIPES LEADING TO PUBLIC WATER FOUNTAINS AND TO THE HOUSES THAT THE PEOPLE WHO WERE LIVING IN POMPEII 2000 YEARS AGO AND THEY HAVE FOUND THE SKELETONS OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE COVERED IN HOT ASH WHEN MOUNT VESUVIUS ERUPTED IN 79AD AND it's VERY SAD TO THINK THAT HAPPENED NEALY 2000 YEARS AGO 😔
Hi, I was wondering how you bought your ticket. Did you buy it there, waiting in that crazy line or did you buy it somewhere online? There are so many sites and idk which one is thé site. Would be nicer if I could avoid that line haha
We bought the ticket to Pompeii when we arrived. There's always a crazy line because the entire train has to buy their tickets at the same time. So get in the front car of the train and go immediately to the entrance so you're in the front of the line. See how we did it at 1:08 in the video.
_Any place_ is a place for flipflops if you're crazy enough. I once hiked onto a glacier in flipflops because I forgot to pack my sneakers. 🤦 But yes, I totally agree with you.
As long as nothing was above the sculptures, I don't think they would have collapsed under the weight of the ashes from Vesuvius. I imagine they would have survived just fine.
Yes, I'm glad we had time. We knew we _had_ to go to Pompeii because, you know, it's Pompeii. But we really wanted to go to Herculaneum, too, because it's better.
definitely try to go, I've been all over Italy in the Navy in the 80s, and was never ever let down, everywhere I went there was some kind of history, and always great people to chat with!!!!!👍

That a 3 way road ! Romans had problems eith so called water coming from high gronds So those road where doing 3 jobs ! Collecting , the stones accros where sopposed clean the water from big debris ( trees grass bushes ecc ecc ) as well as pedestrian crossing and high way for Charriots ! Infact if you look on ether side of the roads you can see the imprints of Carri wheels . Grazie
No, we tried to go but when we were there it was closed to the public because they were actively excavating or restoring it. I'd love to see that, though. So hopefully next time we're in the area it'll be open.
I couldn't believe how disgusting the trains were and the station at Pompei, one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations, was dirty and graffitied. Where's the pride in their beautiful country?
I'm usually a stickler for cleanliness, but I don't recall the trains being overly dirty. Though I'll take your word for it! Maybe it's changed since we were there. I would venture to say that there's more going on than a lack of pride. Every country has it's own things they're dealing with whatever the experience outside the archeological site, it isn't reflective of what is on the inside. Even if Italy is having a harder time with maintenance at the exterior of the park, they continue to put effort into discovering both Pompeii and Herculaneum and making them wonderful places to visit. Please don't take your visit as a reflection of the rest of the Italy. There are many other places to visit in Italy. It's one of our favorite European countries!
I think it's because Italian is written in the same alphabet as English, so even if it's in a different language, we can still _read_ it. As opposed to in Egypt, your signs would be in Arabic, right? So English speakers would have no idea what the signs say.
Parking is 10 Euro per day at Pompeii, but if you park at one of the restaurants nearby, and eat at the restaurant before or after your visit to the ruins, they let you park for free.
You're close. The people were buried in ash and pumice which hardened around their bodies. The ash left a cavity where their bodies were, and the archeologists poured plaster into those cavities. All the "stone" people you see in Pompeii today are plaster casts of real people (and dogs) that died in the eruption.
Love the video but one comment, not so much. Only an American would say “not stroller friendly” why is it that Americans can’t accept that everything doesn’t have to be perfect.
We never expect anything to be perfect, especially when traveling. Our videos help other people plan their trips, so when we saw another family struggling with their stroller, we felt compelled to advise all the families with young children that might watch this video while preparing for their own trip to Pompeii to not bring a stroller, but opt for a carrier like we did. It was meant to be a helpful tip, not a disparaging comment about Pompeii.

-Brian
Such a great informative accurate video
Thank you so much. :)
This is so amazing! I really want to visit Pompeii and Italy in general! I am going to save for the trip uwu
We love Italy. Totally worth it. Hopefully you can make it.
Do we need a guide to get all the explanations during the Pompeii visit or just a map with audio? Love your videos, so informative! 🙏
Just get the map and audioguide. It's really great. Then you can take your time and wander around as you please. No need to go with a real guide.
Bravissimi! Bella l'Italia eh? 🤗
Così bellissimo!
wow what a nice video.
if you want to visit another archaeological site in Campania, I recommend Paestum.
There are Greek temples from 500 BC
.
:) -Brian
Great video! What time of year did you go?
We visited on May 24.
I visited Pompeii city on February 2020, and I left Italy on February .28,2020 when there was a lock down .
Oof, crazy timing. Glad you were able to get out.
-Brian
Awesome trip. What what if... you close your eyes... 🙃
I feel like I'd definitely trip on something.
If you buy your tickets online, you skip the lines. Rick Steves taught me that. ;)
True. We didn't book ahead because we had some flexibility on which day we'd go, and we wanted to make sure to go on a sunny day since you're exposed to the weather all day in Pompeii. You can't change the date if you book your tickets online.
Mega Video❤
Thank you!
@@PerfectLittlePlanet Assolutamente no, quando pioveva, le strade si riempivano d'acqua che scorreva fino alle fogne per lo smaltimento
Also, Hi! Welcome to our little internet family. :)
Yeah, Pompeii has always fascinated me. I would have loved to see it at its height.
See how we did it at 1:08 in the video.
i know this place like the back of my hand and i can tell you, this is no place for sandals or flipflops!
_Any place_ is a place for flipflops if you're crazy enough. I once hiked onto a glacier in flipflops because I forgot to pack my sneakers. 🤦 But yes, I totally agree with you.
Anybody know how the sculptured gardens ever survived?
As long as nothing was above the sculptures, I don't think they would have collapsed under the weight of the ashes from Vesuvius. I imagine they would have survived just fine.
Did you go to hurculanium too?
Yes, I'm glad we had time. We knew we _had_ to go to Pompeii because, you know, it's Pompeii. But we really wanted to go to Herculaneum, too, because it's better.
I want to go there when I get older
definitely try to go, I've been all over Italy in the Navy in the 80s, and was never ever let down, everywhere I went there was some kind of history, and always great people to chat with!!!!!👍
Mike Tayon I will for sure try thanks! I’m 50% italian and I want to be able to learn more about my grandparents childhood.
@@sirteddy8034 interesting! Their childhood huh? May i ask why?
Mike Tayon My grandma passed away when I was 5 and grandpa passed away when I was 7. Im 14 Right now and they both use to tell me stories but I was to young to understand them so now that i’m older and understand more I want to see it for myself
Teddy, I hope you can make it out someday. It's such an amazing place to see in person. My great-grandparents were from a town about an hour from Pompeii. Were your grandparents from this area, too? -Brian
Good 👍 🇲🇦❤
Thank you! :) ❤
Thank you for beautiful video from Pompeii. Btw your wife is extraordinary beautiful.
Thank you!
Grazie
Oh interesting! That's cool.
Did you go to the villa of mysteries?
No, we tried to go but when we were there it was closed to the public because they were actively excavating or restoring it. I'd love to see that, though. So hopefully next time we're in the area it'll be open.
@@PerfectLittlePlanet hopefully if you get there again many of the new archeological finds will be open to us as well 🙂
I couldn't believe how disgusting the trains were and the station at Pompei, one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations, was dirty and graffitied. Where's the pride in their beautiful country?
I wouldn’t say one of the world most popular destinations. There’s Rome Paris Athens Istanbul and other better places to see
I'm usually a stickler for cleanliness, but I don't recall the trains being overly dirty.
How there is no any English signs!! In Egypt they count for tourists, they have English signs even in the metro and train stations!!!
I think it's because Italian is written in the same alphabet as English, so even if it's in a different language, we can still _read_ it. As opposed to in Egypt, your signs would be in Arabic, right? So English speakers would have no idea what the signs say.
@@PerfectLittlePlanet yes, but still! Different languages
So sad what happened there
It really doesn't even feel real. It's just unimaginable. 🥺
Does anyone know if you can park there? We’re hiring a car 🚗
Parking is 10 Euro per day at Pompeii, but if you park at one of the restaurants nearby, and eat at the restaurant before or after your visit to the ruins, they let you park for free.
she's really cute
I know, right?!
man.. great video but the music is sooooo loud and annoying.
My bad. Still learning how to balance that. Thanks for the feedback.
Hello
Hi. How are you?
2023 SORRENTO BINARIO 1 NOT ANYMORE BINARIO 3
They changed a binario?
Pompeii actully people turned to stone due to the huge eruption there are dead bodies ya dont know that
You're close.
It was meant to be a helpful tip, not a disparaging comment about Pompeii.
how much for the entrance? with out tour guide and what is your camera using?
Entrance is currently 18 Euro. We filmed this on a Canon G7X Mark II.
amazing video, keep it up & good work 😃
Thank you!
