I'm using the mi mix 3 128/8gb model. And here what I think. It's quite a good deal for the price in many ways. The screen is amazing, however... I have compared it to my previous Samsung Galaxy S8 and although the mi mix 3 is truly bezelless, samsung's display's colours looks so much better than the mi mix 3. The performance of the mix 3 is flawless, so far I haven't got any lags even playing pubg mobile on highest settings. As for your question of ditching oneplus, I'm not really sure about that as I have never used a oneplus phone as my main device. But I can tell you that overall the mix 3 is a really good deal.

Have the phone, got it when it came out and loaded Google services on it without issue. MIUI is minimalist and really clean, and they update it frequently. Global ROMs from Xiaomi are coming soon. Mechanism is not "spring loaded", it uses magnets recommended for 300,000 'slides', meaning it's likelihood of failure is almost none, given it doesn't use springs that can corrode or a mechanical/gear system which can breakdown. The slider function can also trigger quick actions rather than the selfie cam, or literally do nothing if you just want it as a fidget spinner. Face unlock once you push the slider down is lightning quick. Would love to hear your thoughts more in depth but wouldn't have chosen the words "spring loaded" as it doesn't represent it properly.
Thanks for clarifying. Not sure why he would assume springs and not find out for sure before commenting. Also that phone is not glass its ceramic , just like the Essential. A damn nice phone! Xiaomi build quality devices in general, and although some people dislike Miui. Personally, I think its one of the best OS skins out there...except for the launcher. For that I prefer Smart Launcher Pro 5.
Also magnets won’t get damaged by debris, they’ll just work over the top of it unlike a spring. Another thing was that there was a lot of criticism of the glass back, unlike its closest competitor the OnePlus 6t this phone has wireless charging, which requires a glass back (as LTT points out it also comes with an included wireless charger worth ~$50). It’s so obvious when MKBHD reviews phones from brands he doesn’t care about enough, he doesn’t give them the same thorough appreciation and doesn’t talk to the manufacturers.
@@hemmoau yeah the inclusion of wireless charger and case is as Unbox Therapy said, something that all manufacturers should look to do. But he did preface this by saying it's not an in-depth review, so I hope he gives it a proper review like other phones.
@@MrAlexlovesmuse Frankly alot of companies could stand to be more like Xiaomi. They are one of the few companies that seem to put the customer first. Plus, they offer nice phones for any budget. In the West, people who do not know Xiaomi have some preconceived notions about them because when they fist started selling phones they were trying to model themselves after Apple. Soon Xiaomi became the innovators and Apple has in turn copied them. For example, the Mix Mix along with Essential and Sharp were the first phones with a small "bezeless display" and a couple of years later Apple releases a similar looking iPhone X. Mark my word Xiaomi, is on track to dominating all forms of tech. Of course you know this, since you have one of their products.
Marques, would like to point out some inconsistencies you said in this video as it is a little misleading. 1. The back is ceramic, so, even if the back is slippery, the phone back, at least, is highly durable, much more so than Gorilla Glass. 2. The slider mechanism also uses magnets and is rated for around 300,00+ uses. People have been able to test this and get more out of it. From what it seems, this mechanism is certainly as durable as the old school slider phones, if not more so. I think the durability of it will be fine for most people.
Ceramic is more resistant to scratches, but it shatters with an impact as GG does. Other than that is a matter of preference, more choice is always good.
You're wrong about the durable party of the back, yes Ceramic is harder than glass, so it won't scratch as easily, but Ceramic is also more brittle than glass, so it'll crack more easily.
It's not about how many times it can slide but how it holds up once it has dirt and grit in between the two sections and although ceramic is more scratch resistant it isn't more shatter resistant. Surprised Marques didn't mention this though.
I like those short videos, if there is a special topic to talk about for itself, but I don't mind longer videos for like a full review or something, as well.
Hell, even now in '24 it's up there. Better than an under-display camera and perhaps there's room to add some cool gimmicks if they tried it today: maybe front-firing speakers?
I had sliders in the past, namely Samsung e900, d900, and some grey Korean noname in mid 2000s. Their weakest point was the ribbon wire that connects the display and front placed peripherals to the mainboard.
No point whatsoever... it traded a notch for a chin that now takes up the entire bottom screen portion of the phone when the notch only takes up a bit of the top middle... and since the notch is in the middle you had more screen and equal design instead of this offset crap.

Yesh hate on samsung for a clever way rather than apples notch snd pixels notch chin combo. Plus punch hole have no wear and tear from sliders unlike this
@@james68279 I said 'prefer' but okay. While sliders will wear out, IMO having a hole doesn't really improve the notch situation (no matter the size). Its always there on the screen
The "hole" is more of an evolution of the whole notch design than anything else. It's STILL a distraction on the screen, albeit made even more prominent as it's more an island on a sea of pixels more than just a peninsula. That being said, I'm glad advances are being made and resulting in such anyways. Perfecting camera cutouts with displays around it can and will eventually lead to the ability of putting something like the camera and other front sensors under the display, the respective display portions over them blacking out and becoming transparent on the fly when needed. Even then, I'll stick with Samsung's 2017 and 2018 design cues and favor minimal bezels. Sure it's not "all-screen" but you still get a big display and bezels are already pretty damn small as is. Why do we even need a phone that's all display?
@@james68279 honestly there should be a poll on how many people would prefer no front facing camera, this way the option for no front camera at all and still a full screen would be fantastic. Idgaf about selfies, I just want all screen and no gimmicks. However, the work arounds from 2018 were pretty cool.
Yeah i agree. Just to enclose the front camera, this is an overkill. Only if they did something more and put in a wide speaker along with it, might make sense. Basically just have more use to that than just the camera.
this is the best implementation of a bezelless phone that I've seen. I would prefer under-display cameras, assuming they'll be possible in a timely manner, but I actually really like this.
@@the46guide94 I don't use the front facing camera that often, so not having to sacrifice something (screen real estate, thickness, battery, motors, etc) for the front camera would be a major plus for me. Notches and holes are more reliable but are far less ideal media consumption, sliders look better but have a risk of mechanical failure (even if it's a small risk). A well-implemented under display camera would give you the best of both worlds with practically no compromises.
I hate how they didn't go the extra mile and sweat out the details of rejecting screen touches when you actually slide the phone, so you're always accidentally clicking something every time you slide the camera open. For me, that makes this a very half-assed attempt.
@@alliejr The issue with that is that someone doesn't slide the screen immediately when they touch the screen. If they wanted to delay touches just to check if someone is sliding the camera out, that would delay all touch registration. An example of this is if you enable triple tap zoom in your accessibility settings.
0:10, I loved that camera pan! That's the robotic arm controlling your RED camera that you showed on your channel a few months ago. It still looks deadly every time I see those scenes.

I received mine about a week ago, and, I'm kinda disappointed. Camera is subpar, speakers are abysmal, screen is not cool, MIUI is so-so. Managed to unlock the boatloader, waiting for an official global rom, will flash and sell it. This phone has too many compromises just to get rid of a notch, and it still has a chin. The sliding is the less gimmicky of all the 3 solutions (OPPO, NEX) but it still get old fast.
the slider phones have been around since the beginning of mobile phones, if anyone remembers those nokia sliding phones. guess what? i still have my N95 8GB around and the slider is still working. when i first heard about this phone, i was so surprised because its literally something that someone shouldve thought about a long time ago. i love the idea, and i think that this should be the future of smartphones. its like going back to the OG mobile phones and picking the best features they had. Bottom Line: if the sliders on the old nokia phones are still working to this day (with their old technology) I think that a slider phone with today's technology should be able to sustain itself for a lifetime. The only thing stopping me from buying this phone is that its a Xiaomi phone and they ripped off the OS straight from iOS which is sad
So wrong buddy, get to know the miui and you'll love it trust me. It's not at all an iOS ripoff, oppo's is, but not xiaomi's software. Only thing in common is the fact that you don't have a drawer, but uf you want one just use a launcher like poco launcher (perfect for Xiaomi) or nova which is the best
Well, sliders are NOT good in every case. I had Nokia C6, which was an awesome device, but the slider was a real PITA. I had to replace it multiple times.

Debris won't really be much of an issue and by the time it is most owners will be on the upgrade path. Marques is maybe too young to remember the sliders of the past but I do!, my Motorola Rizr Z3 was great, the slide was so satisfying and debris/ sand was not an issue. For the it's not IP** certified argument, it is nice to have but not a necessity, I'm not a klutz like the rest of these people in the comments. In my 25+ years of cellphone ownership have never broken a screen or dropped my phone in water like an idiot. I remember when there was no IP rating a few years ago and people were fine, now everyone needs it like they can't go a day without dropping their phone in a body of water ......-_-
Lol, my first slider (Samsung e900) had a gap so wide, you could fit a coin there. For this reason I never really worried about sand or small debris. There was space in it aplenty.
@Shiniychi used my phone plenty of times near a hottub and pool and still no problems dropping it, but again im not a klutz either. and in the shower, come on man, people can put their phones down for a few minutes it take to take a shower.
You guys are getting this all wrong. Phones these days are a lot slimmer with components too close to each other. You really don't want debris in a design that complicated.
This may be random but I just want to say that China is really rising on every level, more and more people around you are using Huawei and Xiaomi smartphones, and they are created in China not just made in China, China is thousands of miles ahead of the rest of the world in terms of mobile payment. Young people literally start to forget what cash is. Chinese Singles's Day sales has already topped Black Friday for years. Don't get me started with the world's longest high speed rail network and tons of word record breaking infrastructures. As a westerner, if you still choose to be blind and say you are okay where you are now, just wait to be surpassed even sooner. China did pirate and copy technologies before, but because of that, they are now able to create and even get ahead of other countries. You can do nothing to change the past now it's time to make sure that you don't lose the competition like a fool. These are all facts.
Ok they have always made great phones just no one wanted to buy them because people don't like new thing especially when buy expensive things. They stuck with cheap phones cause that's all they could sell then one plus one really starting the movement of being higher end phones from china. You can find videos of people saying honor 8 is best phone in the price range hands down when it came out but some unknown Chinese phones who wants that people rather by an old iPhone or Galaxy
We aren't western people, even we know how super advanced China is. Here in south asia, chinese smartphones are ruling the market. And other chinese products have been ruling ever since forever. So yeah, china is unbelievably good in smartphone and electronics.
They also rise on authoritarian censorship and oppression. Executions galore, Highly effective spying technology, and a social credit system that will take advantage of the lack of physical currency. But yes, there are very good phones there.
They are important but I think you're overestimating them. It's still a communist country with an authoritarian regime , under-developed and highly polluted cities. Most of their technology and infrastructure is based on what has worked in the West. The true innovation in IT, energy or any other field like transportation will can from anywhere but has to be built around the goal of doing entirely new things, creating value that wasn't there before by doing more with less. Scale can only get you so far it's what I'm saying... Innovation can come from anywhere but we have to remember technology and globalization are two entirely different modes of progress, technology being the most important of the two at least imo.
Can you like start being less creepy and maybe be more like South Korea or even Japan? To come to think of it.. South Korea.. they progress beyond what you're doing with just 50 million people but they do it so fucking gracefully and with respect and swag. And look, people love the fuck out of them right now. Quit saying surpassing the world with such dirt and greed and grease and disrespect, China!! Us Americans and the UK still hold the mics!

DAAAMN. That camera work at the start. Good Job.
I'd say this is the perfect way to have a bezeless phone. I'd prefer this rather than Samsung leaks on a "hole notch"
Yet Samsung is Samsung, a premium device and Xiaomi is Xiaomi
@@james68279 honestly there should be a poll on how many people would prefer no front facing camera, this way the option for no front camera at all and still a full screen would be fantastic. Idgaf about selfies, I just want all screen and no gimmicks. However, the work arounds from 2018 were pretty cool.
Imagine a grain of sand getting caught in there and scratching up the glass covering the front camera.
easy fix....use a thin screen protector on the flip up area.
But also imagine that a constantly exposed front camera can also get scratched,
The Sapien screen protectors are a thing
im sorry but can a grain of sand really do that much damage? The worst I could expect would be the jamming of the slider but not scratches

What make u prefer a under screen camera? Just wondering if there’s any perks to this I’m not aware of
@@the46guide94 I don't use the front facing camera that often, so not having to sacrifice something (screen real estate, thickness, battery, motors, etc) for the front camera would be a major plus for me.
An example of this is if you enable triple tap zoom in your accessibility settings.

the slider phones have been around since the beginning of mobile phones, if anyone remembers those nokia sliding phones. guess what? i still have my N95 8GB around and the slider is still working. when i first heard about this phone, i was so surprised because its literally something that someone shouldve thought about a long time ago. i love the idea, and i think that this should be the future of smartphones. its like going back to the OG mobile phones and picking the best features they had.
MIUI 10 with Nova Launcher prime is perfect for me!
Well, sliders are NOT good in every case. I had Nokia C6, which was an awesome device, but the slider was a real PITA. I had to replace it multiple times.
Its still Android mate, and you can customize it the way you want to!

Not really, what about their cases.
I like these shorter videos. They get straight to the point and summarizes everything. I hope you keep trying out this format and see if you feel more comfortable with it down the line.
@Shiniychi
Good point. I don't see how this design can be waterproof, or at least water-resistant.
