The Blood Angels combat patrol is probably a solid pickup to expand. You get some Incursors to go along with the 'phobos' lieutenant, some Aggressors to go with the Apothecary, an Impulsor to move around the Sternguard from Leviathan or the Intercessors from the patrol box, and a regular librarian that you can attach to the Infernus squad to make them more survivable. You don't need two Terminator leaders since the box only comes with one squad so swapping the librarians gives a bit more utility.
I did this but i’m reverse, I got Leviathan to expand my blood angels combat patrol
I play Blood angels and I still bought the box when my buddy got it to expand his dark Angels, best box deal the redemptor is amazing.
@@nicholasmattiello8959Dark Angels Combat Patrol is genuinely one of the best Space Marine boxes especially now that Inceptors are 115 points with a 3" Deep Strike.
In regards to the Apothecary Biologis, you don't really take him for his close combat ability, the reason you take him is to give lethal hits to the unit he's attached to. For 55 points this is actually pretty decent, you'll get the most mileage out of him with boltstorm aggressors since they can benefit from both of his abilities, but a unit of heavy intercessors can benefit from him as well. Lethal hits also combos well with meltas since the auto-wounding allows you to actually get some damage through on vehicles and super-heavies like they used to be able to do, especially with oaths of moment as it allows you to fish for sixes, lethal hits becomes especially potent. I will agree he is a very odd selection for the box given he's a character that is made to support other units and yet was given nothing in the box to support.

the Phobos Lieutenant should just have been wargear options for the other one, basically just make them one unit, it would be much better, and make him useful. :)
I was at the FLGS today and almost pulled the trigger on a Hive Tyrant model, but it was full price. Really excited to finish watching this video... I picked up a second half of the Levi box from another store for $80, so I've got a solid battleline for cheap, now trying to figure out the rest.

I kinda went overboard in buying "extra" units to mix and match with my leviathan box, but I have some nice theme combos that came out of it lol
my top two are putting a chaplain with the infernus squad and giving them a land raider redeemer to get around... just something about all that fire with a chaplain leading them made me giggle
second is a three man unit of aggressors to go with the biologis, add in a repulsor for transport and it made me think of Trauma Team units from cyberpunk

I’m scared to buy anything for my Tyranids yet. If there are new Shrike models, one would assume there will be new Warrior models aswell. And I truly hope GW will come out with a new Biovore/Pyrovore models.
I havent played since 4th edition but I’m setting a goal to get back in the game in 10th edition with Tyranids

I got myself a Swarmlord and some Zoanthropes, the warriors I will wait on because I believe there will be new warriors/shrikes and/or lictors (to go along with the Deathleaper).
The Apothecary Biologis is an absolute beatstick in a unit even without the buff, just to throw a cheap enhancement on. Gravis charging a unit in a pinch and just grinding it down can be shockingly effective.
Had a unit of Eradicators with the Biologis wreck a Chimera this weekend, and then charge the poor squad that bailed from it.
I kitbashed my Lt in phobos with combi so he can be played as both. He got an AOS Sigmarine spear and an eliminator backpack with the sniper rifle
The combi lieutenant looks quite fun to be honest with his 5+ FNP, infiltrator, stealth, lone operative and his evade and survive rule. He looks like he could be quite annoying the issue is I just think he either needed a little more punch (like 2 attacks with the gun, and anti-infantry 4+ on the blades rather than anti-tyranid) or a better buff to compensate for him not buffing a unit. His aura buff is too specific and a bit weak, re-roll 1s, of units 6" from him, but against enemies on a specific objective. It should at least be like +1 to wound or +1 damage or something considering its a limited scenario for it ever to work. But yeh could easily just run him as phobos Lt just slap a sighted bolter on him and run him as a phobos lt, who has a nice bolter, gives lethal hits to unit and allows them to move after shooting. I am actually looking at as many phobos units as possible for my custom chapter list, the phobos librarian is also fun with him basically giving the squad lone operative and scout snipers also have this as well, plus eliminators can move after shooting as well, so you could have multiple units about the board that the enemy needs to get within 12" of to shoot and others that can move shoot move for some fun shenanigans, so the combi lt kind of fits that.
I play black Templars too but I plan on converting the librarian to a chaplain some how.

The job my winged Tyranid Prime has is to 'babysit' my Screamer Killer through synaptic controle. He can then also be tasked with hunting down the enemy monster hunter.

Just did a 2k game, Biologos (w/bolter discipline)+ gravis Captain+6 man boltstorm aggressors riding in a land Raider crusader is a sick combo. In devestator, lethal+sustained Hits on 5+ with roughly 40+ shots is really good.
I dont think thats really all that good for 700 points. For 600 points you can just take 18 eradicators and get x24 multi-melta shots that do d6 damage each with full rerolls to hit, wound, and damage. You can kill basically anything and dont have to rely on getting 5+ crits to hurt things with high toughness and you get way more bodies on the board.

I really like the mobility of the Tyranid Prime, but I see what you mean. Could use some fellow flappy bugs for support.
Hopefully we get an updated kit of terminator assault squad, and can put the captain with them and the librarian with the terminators in the box. The captain with assault terminators rerolling charges AND giving a free stratagem every turn seems so good to me. I would kitbash or magnetize the captain to give him a relic shield and thunder hammer for more punch and survivability.
As fun as this is to brainstorm and always see Jay livin up the hobby, I dont think its a good idea for any Nids player to buy kits just yet. I would hate to buy kits only for an updated version to come out or the codex to take a dump on some of the units. With the now recent announcement of the starter sets, I think thats a much better route to take as far as picking up any new models, as well as finding another Nid half of Leviathan. Im sure Nids player will be in need of my gaunts and, leapers, etc. I would just stick with the new range for the time being to rack up those savings on some of the staples to your army

Bought one box set, and the 9th edition Black Templars army box that came with Emperor's Champion and outdated codex. I'm thinking of buying the Combat Patrol of Black Templars and Sword Brethens. I was able to converted the Apothecary into a Castellan and the Librarian into Terminator Chaplain.
What else should I buy?
You misrepresented combi-weapon lieutenant he also has infiltrator, stealth, and a 5 up feel no pain. On top of that he has an aura that lets you re roll wounds of 1 on a specified objective

Btw, sporemines can be overwatched, so they're not that good. Its nice to control the oponents cp though
I think they should have given the tyranids prime the option to not have Wings and join a Hormagant unit or a warrior unit.
2:58 Am I crazy? I remember when they announced the points for 10E I added up the tyranid army and it was like, 680 points to the Space Marines 980 points.
Tyranid prime with a mob of 20 gargoyles is stupid good imo. Sustained hits 1 and if your against vehicles taking lethal hits as your adaptation is crazy good. Who cares if the prime isn’t in close to attack, wait till all the flyer bois are dead lol.

the Leviathan box is really there to get people to buy other models with how many characters are there. The winged prime is totally lame sauce, especially with what it can join. The new LT in the box is definitely an instant removal or proxy for something else, the biologis just feels like an LT for gravis, having two Terminator characters is off as to field them both you would get a 2nd termi squad. My biggest disappointment in this box is the large disparity in points in each army. The new neuroguants(these guys are super underwhelming) could have just been hormaguants and felt better. I do like your suggestions for staying at 1000pts though.

I’m a bit confused. Is the lieutenant with combi weapon the same as the Phobos variant? It says that the Phobos is in the leviathan box but the websites say otherwise.
the lieutenant with combi weapon model is wearing Phobos armor but he is a different datasheet from Phobos lieutenant

Except Leviathan is really good value, I bought my box from an independent store for £120, sold the nids half for £65, so I got all that stuff for £55, which is pretty much 1k points of Space Marines for same price as a Land Raider on the main site. I mean does anyone buy direct from GW? I certainly wouldn't the vast majority of times, plenty of money to be saved from independent stores, second hand market, trading etc. I got 3 Redemptor dreads, 1 contemptor, 2 tech marine, 6 bladeguard, a captain, a lt, assault intercessors, outriders, and a devasator squad 2nd hand, that the guy had only built and primed, for £100. So the hobby really isn't that expensive if you shop around a bit, look for deals.
@@tajj7good value for GW does not mean fair value, GW spends more on boxes then they do on sprues, they could put twice the sprues in leviathan and still make a giant profit
3D printing isn't that effective either.
The sheer difference in scale does mean that gw can produce better quality at much lower cost.
It's rare for them not to charge exorbitant prices that absorb all the savings during production, but if you get leviathan discounted from a third party it's hard to match.
You won't match gw quality with a 4k printer, cheap resin and free .stls.
If you get a high quality printer, materials and files you can still beat with gw's list prices and especially safe a bunch of money on characters, but you're not gonna outdo leviathan, and you have quite an initial investment to recoup.
A printer can be a good investment, but you have to think about how much you are actually going to print beforehand.
Ideally you can find some people in your local community who can print stuff for you, or that you can print for.
Telling someone new to "just get a printer" isn't good advice.

That's the problem, man. When some guy makes a thing at home, using very ineffective means, and it costs magnitudes cheaper than what's mass produced by specialized equipment, something is very wrong. 3d printing being cheap is not a virtue of 3d printing, it just shows how fucked GW is.

Yeah you will. The only thing you won't match with that setup is the strength of the final model, which will be more fragile, but detail can be just as, if not better. Remember, 3d printing allows you to make shapes that molds simply can't do, because of the way it's made.
Also, all .stls are free if you know where to look.

Yeah you will. That's just 72 minis, that's like what, 2-3 liters of resin? That's like $60-90, as opposed to $250. Maybe $150 if you want to go for the good stuff.
