If this channel does decide to do a Battle Report style series; PLEASE do it as an in-character leader of your army OR important influential character tied to your army who narrates their decisions, issues within the command group, their armies successes and failures, and weave a story that the other people involved can play off of. It would be an insane amount of work but be so worth the results; only if it’s fun though
Let me just add my 2 cents about the fire question. 5 weeks ago my neighbors apartment caught fire and spread into mine. I didnt have any time to grab models 😂. Lost probably half of my collection to the fire but was able to salvage most of my big models. Wish it on no one!
For the guy who got the fluffy finish from the spray cans. You can fix it by using an electric toothbrush on it. You only need to strip it if it's really bad.

Eldar being ignore is one of their greatest strengths. They're basically stuck in 2nd edition, which happens to be the edition where the writers/designers/lore was at it's best. Go read an old 2nd ediiton Codex. They were actually really well written/thought out products. You had legendary sculptors like Goodwin, etc. They existed before the corporate-mega-blitz-products-constantly machinations of modern GW.

I live in Houston, and I spray primed a bunch of minis literally hours before the hurricane struck, and everything turned out just fine. I guess your milage may vary.
A cool terrain pack could be a ruined cityscape with highway roads that bridge across the map and adding verticality. There could be on and off ramps to get from the ground to the highway parts and toppled skyscrapers
If a standing desk or building a desk is out of your hobby budget, hardware stores often have folding tables with extending legs for under a $100. I got one at home depot for about $60 and Jay is right it absolutely makes a great difference in improving my posture while painting.
I loved the honest answer to the question about your relationship, or lack thereof, with GW. Part of what I like about this channel is that you’re true to yourself and the things you enjoy. Not just rushing out the new models they send you and trying to act excited about it

I really like the way the Yogscast do battle reports on their GamesNight channel. Some action edited in with kinda a post-game summary of what happened. That said I grew up on the ancient BlueTablePainting battle reports from like 17 years ago shot from handheld camera :P
You and Scott should put up your channels for month. Like, if Scott wins, you have to avant garde some busts and talk tendies while you host Models and Miniacs Weekly. If you win, he has to record all his videos with Walmart brushes and sitting on the floor.
For painting Ultramarines, the Citadel Macragge Blue covers unbelievably well. Its quality is consistent too. Both cans I used covered so smooth and fine that it literally looked like the models were actually molded in the Macragge Blue color.

For priming, Glidden Max Flex is the best I've found in years of searching! Goes on in thin, forgiving coats, doesn't obscure detail and dries fast. I can't bring myself to buy miniature paimt brand specific rattlecans; too expensive.
Shout out to Jay's painting desk! ❤❤ seeing the eob videos with that high desk inspired me to try a 'high' desk for hobby as well. Best hobby decision I ever made. it's only about 5,5" Higher then my pc-desk but painting sitting up straight = the best way to do it. 👍💪💪

For the BatReps, look into how old Mini wargaming did theirs. Handheld camera, really only recording major moments or in between turns, and then have one camera positioned to use a time lapse of the whole game for b-roll.
To your point about splitting Warhammer into a competitive game and a separate fluffy narrative game, Modiphius just recently began that process with Fallout! Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is more of a bring what you want, tell a story type of game and Fallout: Factions is more balanced and considerate of PvP and competitive scenes. I'd love if GW followed
Hi Jay! I think you have to find your own way if you want to give a shot at Battle reports. Personally, I think you should stay true to your storytelling skills. You wouldnt need to film the whole thing... or like film it all but use just the nicer shots to give us a feew glimse of how the game went and afmire the minis. You could narrate the game and tell the story of how it went and share us some bloopers and live moments.
I think the unit bloat and the diluted faction identity is kind of the point, GW seems to want to let players be diverse within factions rather than branching out into new ones. Like if I was collecting Space Marines but wanted to play a tank-heavy list, I could dip into Imperial Guard for their iconic tanks, or I could buy a Gladiator. Or if I was collecting T'au and wanted to do melee or horde stuff I could buy some Kroot. I'm sorta surprised there wouldn't be more money in encouraging people to start collecting new armies, but that doesn't seem to be the strategy.
I was prepping for a huge 21k point 6 way game, and got all my AdMech in the boxes. I live in a studio apartment so I don’t have a lot of room and I use my stove top as a holding spot as I lack sufficient surfaces. I woke up at 430 am smelling weird melting plastic, and immediately knew what was up. I ran over to the stove and sure enough the smallest burner got bumped on when I put the carry boxes down. My storage boxes are made from Lowe’s heavy duty totes with sheet metal epoxy welded to the bottom. If it wasn’t for the metal I would have probably lost 1/3 or more of my AdMech army. Be careful out there.
Battle reports: for a long time I thought following the sports template would work but it doesn't. I think I know why, natural sports noises are more thrilling that natural sweaty gamer noises. I think following professional Texas hold'em tournaments coverage might work better as a template. Ambient murmurings seem important too.

You guys should do a space hulk battle report!! the crappy lighting and weird camera angles could be chocked up to it being in the namesake of the game- a space hulk!!! One really good battle report channel is "Minisodes" where the games are very story driven, and a few of the batreps are just recreations of what happened in the game rather than a live one. Pls consider!!!
as for battle reports, i think some Space Hulk battle reports would fit the bill perfectly, not as big, more narrative oriented, you already have an amazing board and minis. it would be great
If you like the book day of ascension, check out some of the other SciFi by the author Adrian Tchaikovsky. His children of time series and war dogs series are both really really good. Unless you're really weirded out by bugs, his books have a lot of bugs in them.
Iv sworn by vallejo primer cans. Thats mostly what the Squidmar team uses in projects and videos. I got so curious I wanted to see what was up and sure enough they are wonderful. A third less than the price of GW and twice the price of decent cans from walmart makes them the perfect price. Quite honestly the quality beats out GW as well. Its also sad you couldnt remember the one army that literally got me interested in your channel and thats Necrons lol. Goes to show they are definitely not an army you think about often and who knows when we'll see a new video or army update haha. Im patiently waitinf for that special edition to come out but oddly enough its been radio silence since the black friday preview. Makes me wonder if GW is cooking up a refresh ed Trazyn model, fingers crossed!
When you’re thinking about battle reports, you might find the SC2 replays by _Lowko_ a good inspiration for how to convey a very complex game in an approachable manner.
I’ve recently tried Krylon spray paint (turquoise I believe) instead of rust oleum, and it worked great as a zenithal highlight, it sprays in a fine mist and doesn’t spit, or not a lot at least. I haven’t tried all of their colors, but I’m curious to see if they all act like that. Plus, I used to buy the rust oleum spray paint at my local Walmart, but now they almost only sell them in glossy or satin, the only matt paints are the black and white, so it’s good for basecoating but terrible for zenithal spray. Anyway, I would recommend trying Krylon spray paint, at least the turquoise one is beautiful in my opinion !
Citadel primer cans are really good you just have to be a little closer than it tells you and do short quick burst. Vallejo has some really good spray primers also
Since you are in Milwaukee, have you ever thought about a collaboration with Red Letter Media? The Ultramarine movie might be a good Best of the Worst.
If it’s hard to make battlereports, have you considered going on another channel that focuses on battlereports and do a Co-op with them on doing a fun or narrative series?

I used to dislike natural brushes for their flaccidity too, but then i found out about racoon brushes. They're just as springy as a synthetic brush

Spray paints are terrifying. Too far? Ruined. Too close? Ruined. Too humid? Ruined. Too dry? Ruined.

Iv sworn by vallejo primer cans. Thats mostly what the Squidmar team uses in projects and videos. I got so curious I wanted to see what was up and sure enough they are wonderful. A third less than the price of GW and twice the price of decent cans from walmart makes them the perfect price. Quite honestly the quality beats out GW as well. Its also sad you couldnt remember the one army that literally got me interested in your channel and thats Necrons lol. Goes to show they are definitely not an army you think about often and who knows when we'll see a new video or army update haha. Im patiently waitinf for that special edition to come out but oddly enough its been radio silence since the black friday preview. Makes me wonder if GW is cooking up a refresh ed Trazyn model, fingers crossed!

I’ve recently tried Krylon spray paint (turquoise I believe) instead of rust oleum, and it worked great as a zenithal highlight, it sprays in a fine mist and doesn’t spit, or not a lot at least. I haven’t tried all of their colors, but I’m curious to see if they all act like that. Plus, I used to buy the rust oleum spray paint at my local Walmart, but now they almost only sell them in glossy or satin, the only matt paints are the black and white, so it’s good for basecoating but terrible for zenithal spray. Anyway, I would recommend trying Krylon spray paint, at least the turquoise one is beautiful in my opinion !
Citadel primer cans are really good you just have to be a little closer than it tells you and do short quick burst. Vallejo has some really good spray primers also

Rustoleum flat black primer only is still available in my area but it’s increasingly difficult to find.
