- Forget the spelling on the video screen, this is Tony Hawk skating at Prahran Vert Ramp in 1996.
Tony Hawk being heckled to do a 720 (pre- 900 Days).
Crowd complaining that Prahran Vert Ramp was just a large mini-ramp.
Doubles Tony Hawk and Mike Frazier.
AIRWALK Skateboard Demo Prahran (1996)
Tony Hawk, Mike Frazier, Tony Hallam plus BMX riders are Dennis McCoy (the guy with chest protection) and Rick Thorne (full face with no visor).
Oh man, the 90's was such an incredible time for Xtreme sports. I was into BMXing at the time and spent all of my free time at the local ramp park. The biking / skating culture was so fresh and exciting. The clothing, the demo videos, magazines, the culture, the video games.
Just an incredible time to be alive!
Thanks for sharing. BMX riders are Dennis McCoy (the guy with chest protection) and Rick Thorne (full face with no visor).
Thanks. Much appreciated :)
I believe the Pappas brothers used to frequent that steel object back in the glory days.
Wow, that’s about 30 odd years ago! A love/hate for that ramp! ☺️🤕😆
I remember that demo vividly I got to meet Tony's brother Mike in the parking lot
I was there when you met Tony's brother Mike. I introduced you guys.
Mike threw up yogurt in the parking lot after taking a beating from a local lad.
Oh man Mike Hawk is great!
Thanks man, I remember this. I reckon I can see my younger self sitting by the flat!
maybe the sickest footage ever.
No matter the ramp, Tony always delivered incredible demos back in the day. There are plenty of them on RUclips.
This is before the 900, his video-games and the giant home-ramp.
I used to build ramps from the trash people would put on the curb. The only bike trick I ever did was a table top I think.. well I did a Superman once but that was more of me crashing when the ramp sort of gave way. I played a bit of hockey and roller hockey which led to doing tricks on rollerblades. I had a good 15 or so tricks down on them thanks to learning how to grind. We used to do a high jump competition in them… that also led to a Superman when I decided to grab onto a truck to get speed. I did a front flip like that but I didn’t ride it out and think I gave myself a concussion when one of the skates (that was still on my foot!!) clocked me in the head. I saved up enough cash from requesting cash as opposed to gifts for my birthday to buy my very first complete skateboard. It was cheap wheels and bearings with a nice set of trucks and a BlackFlag branded deck. I even managed to get to go to my first Skate park, in Norman Okla. that day I learned how to do a lot including dropping in on a 5 ft quarter pipe. They had a huge half pipe and while I did it on blades I couldn’t on a board. I was purple from on both my sides, about nipple high down to my knees. My forearms were pretty tender as well. I would have done that every day from that point on if I could’ve I couldn’t lay on my sides forever after that my outside ankle felt like it was vibrating for the next week. The closest thing I ever did after then that was as much of a rush was riding a bull once as a young adult and racing motorcross. I tried to do the jumping stairs and flat ground stuff because that’s all I had to work with. I think I got to go to the park twice. I got stuck in a backwoods area one a dirt and gravel drive/ road after that. I gave it a try in my early 20’s and paid severely to the point I was forced to stop due to the contract I signed with the government (they refused to let there investment be taken out by an extreme sport of any kind, to the point they made us get permission and could cost us the bonus we got/ if we got one when we enlisted). I miss the 90’s.
Somehow the aerials looked more impressive back in the day, because the ramps were smaller. Hawk could make a world-class display out of anything.
Tony makes that ramp look small! this is the biggest ramp i ever dropped into, but its successor was alot bigger, too scared to drop into that one
Sick upload - thanks chief!!
Tony killing it in the 90's in OZ. Blokes and sheelaz smoking duzzas. Bro.
So good not to see Tony Hallam not trying to hog the spotlight!
Riders name is Radovich or "Rado". I don't remember his first name (from memory) but was always the one bmxer that kept riding when not many others did. I thought I heard someone yell "Yeah Buzza" then I heard they did. Buzza was the most iconic "local" of that place and always came to show pro's up. Anyone that knows Buzza and filmed this era should do a mixtape of Buzz skating in the pros demo. No one will ever destroy this ramp as much as Hosoi did easter 89. Tas, Ben, Ellis, Chris Miller maybe.... Legendary footage mate. Thankyou. Remember this day.
*edit* Oh it was Boz, not Buzz. (Byron McCormack & Jason Burrows)
Ben is under rated from what I can tell.
@@mikehemens9359 The way Ben and Tas pushed each other was so dynamic to watch. On any given day either was better. What I would've given to watch one of the Pappas, Way, Sluggo, McKay sessions you'd see bits of on DC or 411. #reddragons
there was so many dents and bumps and deformations in the surface of that ramp, felt way sketchy. good times.
Bmx on vert is gnaaarly.
Thay spelled his name wrong! 😳
You spelled 'they' the wrong way LOL And yes, that is embarrassing. Back in the day when you typed what the event was directly on your camera when you are filming it. Can't undo that.
he skating that thing like its a mini ramp lol
That’s because it was a mini ramp compared to most vert ramps
That's because he's so awesome. Rumor has it that he practiced this run ahead of time, like for fun.
that vert ramp looks tiny compared to todays
People were bigger back then.
Wow, the old Prahran ramp. They made a copy of it in my town of Bairnsdale but they screwed the coping up and it stuck out to far and never really got skated much. Not like this anyway lol. The bike riders and rollerbladers ended up using it more. 😕🤷♂
he makes that ramp look tiny
Was that metal ramp slick to skate on? Sure beats the splintered plywood we had.
Somebody forgot the JBL
Nice one cheers 🛹👊
JON LADY
Tony Hawke! Awesome
Where were the Pappas bros? Wasn't that their home ramp?
hay
Video misspells Tony’s last name and the title misspells Mike’s name…😣
remember they had that crap bowl, and then they put a mini ramp in the middle of it
Tony Hawke
Where is tas and Ben Pappas you know tony wouldn't have been there if they were😂
TONY HAWKE😂
DOWNPOINT
I Think he wasted Tony hawk....with a broken rib ! We all know those brothers laid waste to hawk and them fruit cake x game skaters.
TONY HAWKE.
Good demo but I think at that time Nelson Mandela just died so the South Africans weren’t really feeling it. They must have held these events to try and uplift the community but everyone was sad cause of apartheid and shit 🤷🏻♂️
Wtf are you talking about? This is Australia, not South Africa.
@@stusux Maybe the australians were still impacted and feeling morose over the loss of Mandela.
Vert skating sucks hard! And attracks weirdos
lmao ok weirdo hahaha
