He was going to do a book before Stephen but he got two out first and so he waited so he wouldn't be compared and used his middle names as the author instead of Hugh Laurie
I think it came naturally to Wogan...self-focussed, and in the wrong job here. Stephen and Hugh...kisses, respect and a lifetime of laughs...thank you.
We did though - his TV stuff was doomed from the start. But he was terrific on radio, at least until he started becoming a cliché of himself. At which point he would admit in interviews he'd run out of ideas when he was interviewed and go back and do the same stereotype he had invented in the 70s and 80s.
You have to remember this was January 1992 and Wogan was told by the BBC that his chat show was being axed in favour of the awful soap Eldorado. So, you can't really blame Wogan for not having heart when he knows he will be ending this show which he loved doing since 1985. The BBC tried to sweeten the pill and move him to Friday nights later in 1992, it didn't work.
Am I missing some of that British humor again or is the host kind of a jerk? lol They are very harsh on themselves anyway, so self-deprecating it's unbelievable.
It's entirely intentional. He was actually a very well respected and loved man. Though his radio work and commentary on Eurovision were MUCH better than his TV work.
Terry Wogan loved playing with people’s names. I remember on the radio he’d call Shirley Bassey Burly Chassis and Olivia Newton John Olivia Neutron Bomb. Just one of his things.
A brilliant duo with beautiful speaking voices.
I just started watching Jeeves and Wooster. It is so cute.
They’re such a vibe together i miss them sm
How I miss them interviewed as a pair. So talented as a duo! The world has suffered a great loss.
yeah, he totally said 'huge'
Ahahaha as I always used to say until I noticed the difference in spelling aahah! But I am italian 😂
HUGE LORRY......twas a joke....
He always called him Huge on the radio.
Stephen is so handsome here!! Hugh still is, to this day.
Rip stephen
Hang on, isn’t Stephen still Alive?
Yes
I'm in love. With Stephen's socks, that is.
Everyone seems to have missed Terry's joke here :)
HUGE LORRY! He should have ARTICULATED it more :)
0:54 he actually said Huge (not Hugh) WTF
Deliberately lame humour. He wasn't much good on tv, but he was deliberate.
Have you never heard of Huge Lorry?
a "Huge Laurie" as opposed ofc to "A Very Tiny Laurie"
@@VideoMikeA4 im sure his truck is very large indeed
That's what SHE said
As it happens, Hugh Laurie indeed went on to write a book called _The Gun Seller_, published in 1996.
Which indeed was both sexy and racy
He was going to do a book before Stephen but he got two out first and so he waited so he wouldn't be compared and used his middle names as the author instead of Hugh Laurie
I just finished it. I enjoyed it.
I really really miss them working as a pair
"I have Van Gogh's ear for music". Did Stephen Fry really say that? 🤣
wow Stephen must have owned a black cab for years! He still owns one
Has he still got it?
I have been meaning to ask you for the last 9 years but I have been busy..
I've always thought Stephen is much the funnier but they obviously have a deep connection with each other that just makes it work...
Steven & Huge
I.....don't know if Wogan is trying to come across as a prick.....but Hugh and Stephen are great and have the best chemistry
I think it came naturally to Wogan...self-focussed, and in the wrong job here. Stephen and Hugh...kisses, respect and a lifetime of laughs...thank you.
Huge!!!
Good old Terry Partridge.
"Huge"
is Huge Laurie Hugh's brother?
Everyone seems to have missed Terry's joke here :)
HUGE LORRY! He should have ARTICULATED it more :)
@SteviePeeOutDoorLife I think that's a play on 'Little and Large,' another comic duo. Though as a gormless Yank, I can only speculate.
Adam Squier Most boys christened Hugh get nicknamed Huge. It's not unusual in England.
@SteviePeeOutDoorLife Wogan must know something we don't.
How did we not notice what a massive jerk Wogan was, all those years?
We did though - his TV stuff was doomed from the start. But he was terrific on radio, at least until he started becoming a cliché of himself. John King
yes and it's good you clarified it. his radio was always great
He wasn't a great interviewer on TV. His radio stuff was probably better suited for him.
"Welcome Stephen and Huge" well he isn't that big is he??
Motherflippin Sabra Hummus It's usual that boys called Hugh are nicknamed Huge, here in England anyway.
Terry Wogan loved playing with people’s names. I remember on the radio he’d call Shirley Bassey Burly Chassis and Olivia Newton John Olivia Neutron Bomb. Just one of his things.
@SteviePeeOutDoorLife hahaha, apparently, he did! xDDD
As one would say in the day and age, Auto cue FAIL!
Aw. They tried so hard to have virtuous intellectual political views. Cute.
U wot
what the hey?
