- This week, Tony Traina is joined by Danny Milton, James Stacey, and Mark Kauzlarich to bring back an old school format that's a lot of fun: The Fantasy Watch Draft. Like fantasy football, but for watch nerds. Each of us builds a five watch collection in each of the following categories: Sports, Dress, Complication, Indie, and Budget (under $1,000).

This is my favorite format, glad to see it back
Mark won this one for me.
My picks:
Sport- H Moser & C streamliner in Matrix Green
Dress- Cartier tortue monopoussoir
Complication- JLC Geophysic Deadbeat Seconds
Indie- Habring² x Masina LAB Perpetual Calendar Moon phase
Budget- Bulova Oceanographer GMT full lume dial
Watch geeks being geeky about watches. Great episode!
Danny's draft wins for me.
Great stuff gentlemen!
James ALL the way.
Yessss I have missed this!
I’m voting Tony! Especially love the Berneron pick.
For me,
Sport: Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante
Dress: Grand Seiko SBGK002 (Elegance collection, manual wind, red Urushi)
Indie: Ressence Type 1° Round
Complication: H. Moser Pioneer Perpetual Calendar
Budget: Farer Pendine (craziest quartz movement next to a Grand Seiko-flyback, split second, 1/10s counter, independent hour hand)
Oh yes ! The drafts are my favorite format.
These recent radio episodes are great.
1.Sport-VC Overseas Chrono 🐼
2. Dress -Kari V Vintg-8
3. Comp - DB25 Moonphase
4. Indie- Simon Brette 1st series
5. Budget- Seiko Alpinist SPB119
Sports - A Lange & Sohne Oyseus
Dress - Chopard LUC 1860
Complication - AP Titanium Perpetual Calendar
Indie - Parmigiani Tonda PF GMT
Budget - Seiko SPB143
Mark for the win!
In mho, James won this draft. He clinched it with his choice of the H1 Central Tourbillon by the ultimate independent watchmaker, Beat Haldimann. The watch is among the greatest achievements in horological history, as is Beat's H2.
Danny got it 5/5. That would be an awesome collection💪🏻
Sport: GMT Master 2 Pepsi 16710
Complication: Vacheron Perpetual Calendar Overseas 4300V Rose Gold White Dial
Dress: Cartier Tank Louis
Budget: Hamilton Murph 38mm
Indie: FP Journe Resonance
Those would be my picks just on my own personal taste.
I think that exact Saxonia is in the shop.
Gotta go with Mark on this one! The GMT, Rexhep and Seiko combination is tough to beat.
I’d definitely swap out the dress for Tony’s cintree. And the complication for James’ world timer or Tony’s dato, though.
And I guess you can’t not want Danny’s Daytona, lol!
The milspec, Daytona and cintree would be a great 3 watch collection
Danny won this in my world
I think I’d have to go:
Sport - Rolex GMT “Coke”
Dress - JLC Reverso Tribute
Complication - AP Starwheel
Indie - Studio Underd0g Watermelon
Budget - Hamilton Khaki Field
Danny all the way. That Zenith is an amazing watch.❤
Fun video. Would like to see you guys do it again but _ALL_ watches people can actually buy (no limited editions, currently in production, no high horology brands).
I would like to see the same draft but at different max price points e.g. $50k, $10k, $5k, $1k.
Tony
All vintage would be cool
Danny is my winner! I was hoping to see L.U.C Chopard 1860 (steel no date) and V.C. Cornes de Vache + 222 getting picked at some point but it was a great show, time flew!
The Hodinkee Fifty Fathoms is the best Blancpain diver.
Mark by far.
1. Congrats on the W Mark
2. No JLC, Vacheron, or Omega. Dang.
Fun concept. Think a “salary cap” with market retail pricing and limiting to available watches in first & second hand markets would equal the playing field and also result in real world collections that could be reasonably attained over a collector’s lifetime.
I'd like to see more variety beyond Rolex and Patek. The only way to do that is have more criteria for the overall five watches. Any one watch can fulfill multiple criteria.
One manual wind or quartz (or require both?); no more than three watches from the same country of origin; one non-round case shape (square, tonneau, or wild shape); at least three different metal types, etc.
Sport: Moser Streamliner
Complication: MB&F Perpetual in purple
Independent: Chaykin Joker
Dress: Breguet Tradition 7047
Budget: Apple Watch Ultra
My vote goes to Mark. And here’s my 5 picks:
Sport
AP Royal Oak military dial
Dress
Rolex day date onyx dial white gold
Complications
Patek philippe 3940p
Indie
Naoya Hida type 1d
Budget
Seiko spb317J1
Just because this is the only one with no sport Rolex, James draft is my choice.
Mark had the best overall collection but, it was close with Danny. If Danny had a dive watch on his collection, He will be the winner. Danny picks were flawless with The Rolex Daytona Le Mans 100 anniversary, A Lange Sohne Saxonia small seconds, Zenith El Primero Chronograph the Laurent Ferrier and the Hamilton Khaki "Murph" 38 mm, but a dive watch was missing. Also, James selection of the Patek Phillipe World traveler 5935 in salmon dial was my favorite watch of the entire video. What a gorgeous watch! But James selection of the Tourbillon watch and the Arken with that ugly lollipop in the second hands, just like the Omega Seamaster 300, its utterly freaking UGLY! Of course this is only my opinion. Nice video guys, Thank you!
I too voted for James as two of his watches made my list...
1. Sport - Hodinkee 50 Fathoms LE, 40mm, stainless steel
2. Dress - ALS Richard Lange, 40mm, rose gold
3. Complication - PP 5930p-001, world time/flyback chronograph, 40mm, platinum
4. Indie - De Bethune Starry Varius, 42mm, titanium
5. Budget - Bulova Lunar Pilot, high frequency, quartz chronograph, 43mm, stainless steel
do a billionaire's watch collection segment
Mark
I think Mark has just edged it over Danny, but tough choice.
I think James’ suggestion for next time where once a brand has been picked once that’s it, would definitely widen the net and see some truly left field choices come into play
Come on guys. Think outside the box. A 5 watch collection doesn’t have to be the most expensive watch in each category. Don’t just pick Pateks or Langes. Find some interesting pieces to open peoples eyes. I was looking forward to this to discover some new brands and/or models. I just learned that $$$ seems to drive taste.
James gets my vote.
My picks:
Sport: Kobold - Polar Surveyor
Dress: Daniels - Spring-Detent pocket watch
Complication: Rexhepi - Minute Inerte
Indie: Roger W Smith - Series 2
Budget: Unimatic - Modello Cinque U5S-A
Don't mean to be overly critical, but you've just relaunched after like a year, are there no new ideas for the pod?
Desk widgets don't count...
For the most part sooo predictable choices. You watch snobbery is evident. So many better choices out there. Only a few original choices. Let me recap for you. Rolex, Patek, Seiko, oh, did I say Rolex. 😆
