I can totally relate to it. I have studied in a university where girls were not supposed to go out from the hostel after 7 pm. Even the terrace were locked most of the days. They were not allowed to go out of the hostel wearing shorts or cut sleeves. And once before me a warden commented on a student that her shorts were supposedly "too short" to be worn in the hostel and made a huge scene out of it. They say it is for their own safety. That's a really good point but you know even if we start taking SERIOUS measures it will take some time to improve and till then they have no other option than to prohibit women from going out late at night .
According to me..it actually lies in the mere core of our society...each and every step each and every small aspect of things play their role in it...as important as it is to teach all your sons that they have to respect women(and every gender as a matter of fact), teaching your daughters self-defense and making them strong enough to not run away from something but face it, fight it and win, is very important. That is where it starts .. changing someone's thoughts when they've lived with them for years and belived in them for years is near impossible in most cases. As a parent, as a teacher, as anyone who is part of the society we need to ensure and it is our moral responsibility that we teach everyone ( inspite of their genders, cast, creed, colour) right and wrong, good and bad, because that is one way I see the society can improve in coming years. Change will only happen when you stop hoping for it and start working for it!
But being always facing this stereotype...i become very used to it and i didn't find it mean for letting curfews ...afterall we are still residing in the most dangerous country for women

I want to go out in an evening party hosted for and by dancers, this will really help me grow but my parents think that that's bs. It's not a good quality of a good girl(the reason I am referring myself a girl even at this age is my family doesn't think that I am old enough till I get married and then I can do things by asking from my husband) to go to parties, however, I have already graduated. My brother who just finished his schooling even during lockdowns was not having any curfew plus he is used to sleeping at his friends house without telling my parents about the sleepover n they are completely okay with it. Why can't they be okay with my party which will be over at 10 p.m.? When asked a reason they scolded me a lot especially saying my friends are spoiling me, am I small enough to get in my friends words if they are wrong? Dear Swaddle please make a video on how parents think their young daughters especially of 20s are their small babies while how their sons even if they are 16 yrs old or below 20s are grown up man.
Thank you for showing the correct map of India. Happy that you realised your mistake and corrected it at the earliest. I appreciate your efforts and am well aware about the challenges faced by women. I have a sister and mother and I always fight for their rights. They themselves are unaware of their rights many a times and this makes me feel sad about our society. Hence, I want equality for all. But not at the cost of creating a divide between two genders. Content must be on equality for all. According to me, one must not promote hatred against men. Rather it would be adequate if one tells what men lacks in them. Men must understand their narrow mindedness and hence must broaden their perspective. Also, women must realise their true ability and show it to the world without any fear (of society) but with a sense of responsibility / duty / rationality in acts. Problem is with both attitudes of men. Men in general are ignorant of their incapability of learning the true potential of women. Hence they feel, they are correct in judging the capabilities of women and because of their ignorance they undermine women in lot of activities and sometimes even take wrong advantage of the same. In second case, if some group of man are capable of understanding the capability of women which is equality of women in all spheres of life with men, then they try to suppress it by their ego and selfish attitude for gaining or retaining power with them. That's when you term it as Patriarchy. On the other hand, Women often allow to make themselves feel victim instead of being a warrior themselves. They too shall learn to fight against the hurdles by educating the mass about their true potential through their tough actions. Women also do not support other women when it is required. Its the issue of jealousy, hatred, power politics, etc among women too which is very natural considering the nature of animal instinct in humans. That's why women are also suffering. Also, Men and women must learn to respect each other and must respect oneself first. They must be ready to sacrifice their desires for the need of their counterparts. None must lose one's self-respect for continuing one's relationship with counter-part. They must be truthful to each other and trust each other. Both must protect each other from the ignorant society. And so on.. Hence, If one gender always try to make themselves feel victim and shows other gender as villain then it will go nowhere. It will create only trust issues, lack of empathy, hatred, etc. Kindly spread love and peace. Thank you :)

It harms your intention of spreading awareness regarding different intentions of swaddle for India. Hope you understand this. We live in a country where still people think nirbhaya was at fault ( once one of my school teachers said that 60% mistake was on her side!) Even the hathras victim's 'character' was questioned . Most people in power question the woman without knowing anything because they know the genral the majority of their voters would be happy with such statements . We as women don't put forward our demands and the value of our votes decreases . Why can't we declaire that we will not vote for parties which do not kick out members who give such statements and we will vote for them in the next term only if they bring changes in the laws 1. Marital rape 2. All family laws requiring father's name in all the official documents And many more . Activists should run such campaigns
In the central university i studied during 2005-08, girl's hostels had curfew of 8 pm while boy's hostel had no such curfew. Some PhD students and technical courses like BTech, MTech, MCA allowed female students "special" permission to stay in the departments or labs till 10 pm. So while our male classmates could stay out for project work/assignments or just loiter around, we had to scurry back to the hostel. What's ironic here is that despite all these restrictions, few students still ended up being molested by construction workers in the campus itself.
Laksman rekha ki wajah se sita nahi bachi thi, Raavan ke marne se bachi thi. It's time we make the world a better and safer place for EVERYONE to live and breathe in.
Why don't make men stay at home and let women roam around late as women r the ones who r targeted.if u think this is nuts then putting curfew on women alone does not make any sense.
Ya you are right But objectify restrictions objectift the problem like an individuals safety is on himself or herself You have to find out means to be safe from the world's reality
Even I as an engineering student faced curfews in hostel. And even after staying in delhi (its not my hometown) there were many PG's which stated that women working at night are not allowed.
Overthinking series is more like thinking in the right direction! Kudos to Swaddle. Love the video as usual. Relatable AF Edit: I think it's high time that instead of putting curfews on women, they are taught self defense. I always wonder how this world would look if every mother starts telling her son that "beta please dhyan se rehna aap ghar ki izzat ho, aapko pdhaya likhaya jaa rha h to apko b hmesha dhyaan rkhni h apni limits. Kahaan jaa rhe ho kyun jana h aur tym se ghar a jana" instead of her daughter or for that matter to both of them. Becoz my parents are like all cool but they also want me in before 8'o clock, and becoz of the amount of tym I have been told that it's not safe outside and how good girls don't stay out late it got infused into my nerves that yeah it's not ok to be out late at night. On the other hand every other day when I call at home (I live in hostel) I get to hear that both of my brothers are not at home and it blows my mind how mom react so casually saying "I don't know beta kahin gye hain kuchh bahar khaane". I think this small change in every home will have a large impact for women's safety.
i love every bit of content that the team at the swaddle produces. my only issue is, the topics discussed in the ‘overthinking it’ series deserve to be picked apart, and this is in no way overthinking it. i know you guys were probably just looking for a catchy title but the label doesn’t do any favours to the discourse around problematic behaviours in india. us women are actually told that we’re overthinking when we try to talk about these things in real life. being told that we’re overthinking something that genuinely affects our everyday reality is really patronising and dismissive. i hope you guys understand what im getting at.
My mother always said, "you did more bad deeds in your previous life if you are reborn as a woman." No matter how I thought about it, she seemed right. I considered many things but there was nothing that could contradict this statement.

I’ve asked my parents why they don’t want me to go out at night n they said, quoted “what do you want to do going out at night” I don’t know I just don’t want the restrictions of not going out at night. When someone tells you not to do something you want to do it more especially if it’s only women who are restricted
There is curfew 24/7 !!! I'm not allowed to go anywhere alone!. even when I was in skul my father dropped me to the bus stop everyday! And I had to use skul bus After skul he dropped me to the coaching and would come again to pick me when it was over...and now my skul is over and only sometimes they allow me to go at nearby shops
But how ? How do we bring about this change in society ? People still look down on me when I dress up and step out of my home at 7 pm. I think we as women will have to keep fighting our own battles till the end of this century. The regressive patriarchy unfortunately is deeply rooted in our society.
So true... It's not just Indian parents, the whole extended family as a whole, they don't let a girl go out without curfews. Like my dad totally crossed out my opportunity to study in IISER because they thought if I go there I won't follow curfews.... Not only this, everytime I need to withdraw money from the bank, or buy something, they don't let me have my privacy. They send my younger brother with me. As if I don't know how to purchase things... I don't care about what the world thinks, whether I go to purchase things without a dupatta or with one, I feel it is awkward when people decide to send someone in company with me... If it's somewhere far.. fine. But company to buy mik and groceries from the shop next to your house? I can't understand

Today the women of their homes are still in their homes, while me and my sisters are out.. living, earning, and making merry.
Behind most independent women are parents who heard (and probably feared) the worst...and yet support their daughters.
This is so true
So true.

Nights aren't safe because there aren't many people around. Lightening is not going to change that.
And even if you ban alcohal in the whole country ,there would still be those criminal mindset people who would have access to alcohol (because obviously who cares what the rules say) amd they would still be out in the night preying because they know other people are asleep.
So maybe ,just maybe we should stop acting like the west and telling our women to be out in the night like its no big deal. Women are supposed to be cautious by nature, tlbut these brainwashed idiots wants to take away those gut feelings away in the name of empowerment.
Even if someone wore a spacesuit during a day and stayed at home after sunset, the man still has no emotional labour or space to grow. Most of it is disproportionately on women’s shoulders.

Brilliant!!!
These things are hard to understand because of the things programmed to us since our childhood...but it's high time we realise that we are the victims and amazingly facing the restrictions too.
Thank you Swaddle!
But locking women inside house won't help instead focus on the problem the ppl with such mentality should be stopped not the girls cause this is not solving the problem just increasing it

I know it will be diff n we being some cant change most but if we change every that person whom we feel is going wrong I guess we can change all cause that some will change some too n ultimately everyone will be changed n then there wont be any need to make women safe in our country. I really felt this video a lot. I am a girl or if you want to call me a woman of 21 yrs old. I am a dancer posting content on Insta.

Morals that needs to be fixed
Thank you for bringing up this topic and keeping it simple and straightforward 😘

Most people in power question the woman without knowing anything because they know the genral the majority of their voters would be happy with such statements . Why can't we declaire that we will not vote for parties which do not kick out members who give such statements and we will vote for them in the next term only if they bring changes in the laws

2. All family laws requiring father's name in all the official documents
And many more . Activists should run such campaigns
Instead of drawing ineffective laxman Rekhas let's focus on the raavan itself 👍🙏🏾❤️

I'm a boy and curfew is imposed on me as well... But I totally get the point of this video also this video needs more views!!!
i love every bit of content that the team at the swaddle produces. my only issue is, the topics discussed in the ‘overthinking it’ series deserve to be picked apart, and this is in no way overthinking it. i know you guys were probably just looking for a catchy title but the label doesn’t do any favours to the discourse around problematic behaviours in india. us women are actually told that we’re overthinking when we try to talk about these things in real life. being told that we’re overthinking something that genuinely affects our everyday reality is really patronising and dismissive.

When someone tells you not to do something you want to do it more especially if it’s only women who are restricted
There is curfew 24/7 !!!
I'm not allowed to go anywhere alone!. even when I was in skul my father dropped me to the bus stop everyday! And I had to use skul bus
After skul he dropped me to the coaching and would come again to pick me when it was over...and now my skul is over and only sometimes they allow me to go at nearby shops
But how ? How do we bring about this change in society ? People still look down on me when I dress up and step out of my home at 7 pm. I think we as women will have to keep fighting our own battles till the end of this century. The regressive patriarchy unfortunately is deeply rooted in our society.
As the average income increases. Rich society directly proportional to progress. To paise kamao.
