THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is indeed the BEST Bernina older machine tutorial I've ever seen on RUclips, and I've watched quite a few. You have the best teaching manner, and your order of teaching us is logical and I thank you so very much! I inherited my mom's Bernina 930 Record, and this has helped for that as well. God's blessings to you for so openly and wonderfully sharing!
I love the needle position feature which allows me to get the perfect scant quarter inch for my quilting seams. I've had my Bernina 830 Record for 45 years and it still works brilliantly.
Just inherited one of these from my grandma, dropped it off for service today and after watching this video I am so excited to get to sewing when its back!
I inherited this machine from my mom. It is very emotionally bonded to my heart...she sat and sewed on this beauty!! LOVE LOVE LOVE She taught me to sew on this. I think she might of spent her entire weeks salary to buy this. Just got it out of the box after many years dormant. I love your videos to help me fall in love with sewing again. Thank you!!
A few months ago I inherited a family friend's Bernina, but I have no idea how to sew. I'm so glad I stumbled across this video! You're so helpful, straightforward, and clear with your breakdown of all the buttons and dials and things that I had no idea what to do with! I'm so grateful for your channel and this video in particular!!
Thank you! This was so helpful! I have the Bernina 830 and I even have the manual that came with it but it is not much help. I couldn't figure out what the dials do until I watched your video.
Nice video, covering most of the Bernina dial functions, very useful. I like your soothing voice and detailed demo. Very useful, thank you! This helps me understand how the Berninas work. I have only all metal vintage machines and love them. They now sell for $220 on Ebay. Viewers please note: If your vintage machine has seized up, it can be easily fixed with some labor. Old bad quality oil caused this problem, such as 3-in-1 machine oil which should never be used on sewing machines as they tend to gum up into a hard resin, like glue. To unlock a gummed up machine, spray penetrating oil all over, avoiding any electrical areas. Let it soak in over a day or two, reapply several times, and gently work the parts back and forth. A heat gun also helps. When all nice and loose, scrub it off with alcohol and toothbrush, wipe clean. Then relube with Sewing Machine Oil, or Triflow Silicone Oil. Find the gear box below, remove screws, remove old grease, scrub down with alcohol, wipe clean, and repack gears heavily with Synthetic Silicone Grease. Recover. 4 x per year, repack grease. Every two weeks, reoil machine and run it. If dials are stuck, same thing, spray back with penetrating oil like WD-40 or Liquid Wrench. You can also use Carburetor Cleaner ONLY on all metal machines, avoiding plastic or nylon parts and paint job. WD-40 won't hurt anything but Carb Cleaner is stronger and may damage non metal parts or paint. I use a doggie pee pad to cover up machine while working on it. Some feedback: Mention in title and desc which model. 830 or 930 or 931 or 832...? This way we won't miss it at the start if we move forward. Too much hand waving. A little is good. but this is excessive and distracting. Thank you for NO MUSIC during the demo. What a joy! Hard to see the feed dog button settings. Close up would have been nice. I had to see it over a few times to catch it. Vintage machine, not antique yet by 50 yrs. Ha ha ha! Still in middle age, not senior years.
That was so helpful. Thank you. I have the exact same machine which my mother gave me. I love to know more about adjusting tension. When stitching tension is all wrong.
I found your tension video. Thanks. Not sure why my tension is all wrong on my stitching. My dial is in the middle. Just stitching a name tag on a school shirt....??
Thank you thank you thank you! What a great video! I have just become the owner of an 801, which is extremely similar to this machine - I love it already.
I just purchased a 830 record and very much appreciate your tutorials- it didn’t come with a book so your explication was perfect and just what I needed - thank you!
I just got an old Bernina from my grandmother, and I don't really know anything about sewing machines. So thanks for this tutorial, I just made some successful stitches!
Thank you so much. I have my mom’s old Bernini 830 and this video helped me to start understanding the machine and build on my mom’s sewing legacy. I can’t thank you enough.
I learned to sew on a singer from the late 30's, and it still works like a champ, but I recently was gifted this exact Bernina machine and was excited to learn how to do more complex sewing. But goodness gracious this is like a spaceship compared to my old machine lol thank you so much for sharing, you're so helpful!
Thank you! Just inherited an old Bernina 830 that was my great-aunt’s, was given to a cousin where it sat for years, and now I get to use it! Except the needle position knob stops at 2, goes below 0, and won’t do anything except a zig zag. But from your video I know I’m not crazy and it needs some work, so that’s the next step. Looking forward to sewing on it eventually... 😂
This was really helpful. Have a very used 811 machine that was previously used in a school. Think I will send it in for cleaning and oiling and then try using it with your guidance. Thank you.
I was given a sewing machine on loan. Bernina Sport 801. Thank you for the video explaining how to use the zig zag feature. I am still having difficulty with the lever. I can't get it to move any further than to the first, which is zig zag. But at least I have that until I get my machine back.
This was very helpful thank you. One thing that may be useful for other people, (or maybe it was just me!), on my machine when I loosened the hand wheel the first time to wind the bobbin, the needle still went up and down. I tried a few more times and my conclusion was that the inner wheel (the handwheel release as called in the manual) is super sensitive to it's position when you are winding the bobbin and if not in the right place, will allow the needle to keep going up and down.
Hi thank you for this video! I would like really to see how to thread this machine. I got one and not sure how to thread. Do you have another video teaching that? Thank you! I’m Dora

It has not been used for no telling how long, so I need to clean it and oil it first, don't you think. It does work with the foot pedal pressed, it goes up and down fast and slow, so I need to figure out how to thread it. They say there are more parts to it, so I am anxiously awaiting those!
