    I appreciate your review. Looking at that lens in the background sitting on your table and the way you talk about shooting videos, makes me think that your professional photographer, and if you are giving this review from a professional photographer's point of view? The Galaxy S10 plus is not a pro camera. And it's not just a camera, it's a phone it's a computer, as well as a camera. So it's not going to give you amazing perfect pictures like a $3000 Pentax is because it wasn't built to do what the Pentax was built to do. That being said, the Galaxy S10 plus has a pretty darn good camera, and one of the best cameras for a cell phone. I shot some pretty good pictures and videos with it, and most people I know, love it.

    SO looking forward to your third-party app review. I'm not spending $30 on Filmic unless it gets your blessing.
    Samsung really shot themselves in the foot with the features DOWNgrade.

    • @Blaydrnnnr
      @Blaydrnnnr 5 лет назад +5

      I have Filmic.. and still using the S9+. I still consider the $30 for Filmic and the cinematic kit, worth it, if you want to do any serious filming in video on an Android..
      Filmic announced recently they will have an update available for the S10 very soon. Interested in what this may bring....
      Theres nothing in the S10 that has me wanting to upgrade as far as photography or Video is concerned right now. ( didnt update to PIE yet either..)
      As for Filmic.. on a Samsung. Its a must. Its my go to app for video. Its by far the best of the apps to get the most out of videography on the Samsung gear, in my opinion.
      Since Samsung's API is so badly closed up to third party apps developers, so far, Filmic wil give you the most options in a single app. That being said, I DO use the Freefly app for a few things when using the Movi Robot, and I DO use the DJI app for a few things when using the Osmo2. ( Even though Filmic IS supported by the DJI Osmo2 ) The Freefly and Osmo apps offer a few features that each other, and the native app, doesnt offer, and make shooting video alot of fun.
      I really wish SOMEONE would get all the features together in one app. Its a little confusing to think that the features are available, but not on this app, but the other app has that feature, but not this feature, that the other app has..etc....
      Its enough to drive you to a DSLR...LOL ( kidding Brent!!!)

    It's awesome that you were able to get your hands on an S10. I just got the S10e. It's a shame that Samsumg did away with the pro mode, but hopefully they bring it back in an update. Looking forward to see more of your videos and what you're able to do with the phone. I really liked all of you're Note 8 and S9 videos.

      @@BrentHall I'm looking forward those videos. I hope they bring the pro video back (even though I think you're correct, they probably won't) because for the past 3yrs I've been using LG phones which have all manual controls. I decided to switch to Samsung mostly because of your videos of the S9. Samsungs have cases with lenses and LGs just don't have anything. I just don't find any reason why they would remove that feature in Android 9.

    The reason the low light video has GHOSTING (not grain) is because the Super stabilisation is on.If the EIS was off, the video wouldnt have the ghosting effect of the shutter compensating.So atleast you can try disabling the stabilisation to have a better result.

    Hi there! About what you say at 15:39 ... what 3rd party app should I get? If I have a gimbal, should I disable the EIS and just film at 4k with gimbal for the best results on youtube? Thanks!

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 лет назад

      I think it depends on how much control you want and if you're willing to spend a little money on the app. I just did a review of the Filmic Pro app, and I think it's probably the best out there at the moment, though it does cost money. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/lIBzsM3chik/видео.html
      If you have a good gimbal then yeah you could probably get a way with turning off the EIS, and then if you had any wobbles or anything you can stabilize it in post and it would probably be better than getting those horrible looking wobbles the EIS can create sometimes.

I love my Note 10+ and S10+, and I just preordered the S20 Ultra, which should be pretty decent. I've heard the new iphone 11 pro is pretty good too. Hey Brent. I have noticed that many phones tend to oversharpen the video. Could you maybe show us how to tune down the sharpening in post? And I was thinking maybe a trick with frame blending to achieve that cinematic shutter without ND filters? Never tried it myself but it might be a good workaround for mobile videography. Cheers.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 лет назад

      Yeah, All phones usually tend to pump up the sharpness and saturation and stuff. I've never tried the frame blending you mentioned though. I have found that using an app like Filmic Pro has really helped to get better looking footage out of my galaxy phones.

Both have their own apps, but mostly for functionality, not really for settings. They have settings and some functionality in using them manually, but no where as in depth as Filmic or Moment.

I haven't done a full video capabilities review of it yet, but I might. Would the Rode MIC provide better sound quality for super loud events such as concerts? My S7 would distort badly at concerts but the S10 held it together. So would using the Rode MIC improve upon the built in MIC in the S10 for loud events such as concerts or will it distort even if it sounds better a low volumes? BTW here's a full concert that I recorded with the S10: ruclips.net/video/wOn7Cv30OEM/видео.html

    • @e5m956
      @e5m956 5 лет назад

      Also any tips for shooting dark events like the one above? I figured 1080p@30fps with video stabilization off would be best for having a slower shutter speed vs 60fps to let more light in and 1080p giving more zoom options along with video stabilization off to free up processor resources so that it could record longer without overheating which was a huge problem with my S7 during long recording sessions it would overheat and shut down.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 лет назад

      Yeah, I think it would do a better job in general; however, you still can't really manually control audio levels so it could still peak if you get too close or the volume jumps up a lot, but overall it will do a better job than just the phone mic for sure. As for shooting in low light, I'd just make sure you're metering for the subjects under the lights and not worry if the rest is too dark., because you don't want the subjects to be overexposed just so the shadows can be exposed right. Also, I'd recommend using a 3rd party app to be able to set some manual controls like shutter speed, white balance, and iso, that way you'll know exactly what's going on with everything and won't have to worry about having a weird shutter speed or too high of an iso, also you can make sure your f/1.5 aperture is selected, and you could then shoot in 1080 24p and set a reciprocal shutter speed of 1/48 sec.

      That's a hard question to answer, especially without knowing anything about you, your skills, or your budget, or what video features you need. A few cameras that I think are pretty decent vlogging cameras are the Canon M 50, Canon 80D, and possibly the new EOS RP (which I'm going to rent and try out out here pretty soon). But lens choice is also important, as is a good mic, and some lights for your studio setup. If you're budget is super tight, you can certainly get started with just your phone, though I'd still recommend getting a good mic and some lights (they don't have to be fancy or expensive), and of course, a decent tripod.

    I want to get into landcape- and street photography. I’m currently a Canon user, and I’m using a Canon 6D, but I only got telephoto lenses a Rokinon 14mm lens.
    I’m thinking of getting one of these choices:
    1. Get into the Canon EOS R system, get a Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM with an adapter and wait for Canon to release more RF lenses. Save up for the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM and the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM.
    2. Get a Sony A7RII, Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM with an adapter and the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8. Use this for a while and wait for Canon to release something interesting.
    3. Just keep my Canon 6D, get a Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens and a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM A or Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. Save up for Canon’s futuristic plans.
    4. Get a Canon EOS R and Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Use this combination for a bit of everything, and save up for futuristic RF lenses.
    I like the ergonomics of the Canon EOS R, and I like both the existing and futuristic lenses. But on the other side, I can get a Sony A7RII for about $450 less for used, and I’ll get 42,4 megapixels and be able to use the fantastic Zeiss lenses. I could also just keep my Canon 6D for now, get some more L lenses, and wait for Canon to release a ‘pro’ mirrorless and more lenses.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  5 лет назад

      I don't know man, that's a lot of really different options. If it were me, I'd probably go with the R and the new RF system. But that's just me. I've never used a Sony camera, so I don't know anything about them.

    • @carbon6372

      Brent Hall
      Hi Brent.
      Thank you for answering!
      I would want to go for the RF system, but that’s too expensive for me overpriced in my opinion. It’s overpriced, as the new R ‘pro’ probably will cost around $3500 (if it’s a megapixel beast, not a 1DX Mark II), and the pro lenses will cost around $2000-3000. There are three reasons for this: Just being Canon, fantastic lenses and new lenses. I would barely be able to get one lens at that point. If I go for the Sony A7R II, I could get at least 4-5 lenses for that price. And I’m talking about 2 GM and 2-3 Zeiss lenses (the Sony Zeiss or Zeiss Batis). I found the Sony A7R II for about $1300, the Canon EOS R for about $1700, the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 for about $606, the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 for about $667, the Canon RF 24-105mm for about $740-800, and the Canon 16-35mm f/4L for about $800. I would probably save more this way and be better of this way, but I prefer using Canon.

      I'd recommend checking out the Moment app and filmic pro. Both allow for manual controls, but they both still have their different problems. Filmic pro has more options, but costs $15 just for the app, and another $15 for their cinematography package. the moment app isn't as feature packed, and only costs like $1 or $2, but it has a nice interface and will let you do the basic manual controls. Samsung certainly could fix this if they wanted to, they're just not going to. They don't believe that they have enough people interested in pro video to justify the effort of fixing it.

    • @DatrysiadMedia
      @DatrysiadMedia 5 лет назад +1

      Both are good options have them both on my phone, use the moment for stills and filmic pro for video.
      Theres a little quirk with filmic pro that desaturates the image a little more. When you go into white balance and press AWB to lock. Keep looking at the image and just tap the temp setting, the image is not as saturated. I do this for both 24 and 60fps, found it helps colour grading later.

    • @BrentHall
