i have one just like it , i live in Michigan, use it all year round am able to do 10 racks of ribs in it at a time, have done 2 15 lb turkeys together, it holds temp very well. i do however use a torch to light it in the winter time to help get a fire big enough to keep it going until it reaches a non faulting temp. when i try to use it when its under 15 degrees it will fault out for no fire do to not getting hot enough fast enough. but once it warms up its a mean smoking machine..i have nothing but praise for this smoker.

I jumped right to the same one an very happy with it. I knew I wanted to get into smoking so I stepped up an got that one right out of the gate. I used my hand truck to get it in the shop an cut the box off an put it on my card table to put it together. Also I empty the pellets after each use do to the fact I live in Oregon an I leave it outside an don't want the pellets to get damp......

Louisiana Grills is selling this same unit, although a little larger. I had the same problem when I opened it. Never realized the legs weren’t already assembled and we pulled it out upright. The weight of the unit bent the housing for the fan. Had to pull that off, bend it back and put it back on. Yeah, there should be brief instructions about that on the face of the box. And you DEFINITELY don’t want to handle this thing by yourself. Mine weighs at least 175#! Good luck with yours! Looking forward to getting started with mine. :)

My update for the Pit Boss wood pellet vertical smoker. Like I said they sent me out a thermostat to install I found the instructions on RUclips of course. I have cooked a brisket and a pork butt roast since I installed the thermostat and have had no problems. It taken me about 20 minutes to install the thermostat .The thermostat is located inside the smoker at the bottom of the unit you will also have to sneak to wire through to the outside of the smoker. . Good luck everyone. When The smorker works it's great but, to have the smorker 3 months and start repairing on it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Thank you for the help.

Hey Pat! Thanks for the review. Im currently looking into the Louisiana Vertical Pellet Series 7 Smoker. Its going for a great deal right now at Costco (449.99) when the original is 599.99. Anyways just saw something interesting in your video. It looks like your racks are sitting on top of the rack slots and not inside them. I believe the racks will slide into the slots. Anyways awesome job! Keep it up! Happy Smokin

unboxing - Set box right side up.
open both outer and inner box.
take styrofoam sheet off the top of the smoker inside
make sure box flaps are outward as you tip the box on its side
place the styrofoam on the ground at the open end and set the box upside down.
pull the corner packing strips out. they are taped in place but don't give up. pull them out. then lift the outer box off the inner box.
then lift the inner box off the smoker. remove the parking and door. take internal boxes out.
the smoker is now u[side down and ready for assembly . follow the instructions step by step.
(I did it this way logically thinking that the bottom needed to be on top . it was easy to do and only took 5 min to unbox this way)
love the smoker can't wait to get it working today . smoking a traditional Mennonite sausage as they did in the old days with a modern smoker . Should be awesome .

Hi Patrick! Thanks for your video. I didn't see it posted anywhere, so I will share my unpacking experience for others to consider.
I got a Copperhead Series 5 for this year's Fathers Day / Birthday gift! (Thanks Honey!) After I cleared a space in my garage and found some cardboard for cushioning, i opened the top of the box and got the manual. First, I perused the manual. Then, I searched and watched some RUclips videos! The manual instructs how to work on this critter upside down to assemble the legs and so on! That saved my bad back! So, as they say, RTFM! I watched RUclips unboxings so who am I to say?!! :-D Although I could have done it myself, it was much easier having my DSW to help me. Thanks Honey!!
Flip the open box with all flaps out along the sides of the box upside down onto your work surface (cardboard) and pull the box off of the packaging carefully. Then carefully remove the side Styrofoam pieces and and proceed with the manual instructions! It was a piece of cake to set up and do the initial burnout.
Today, July 4, 2019 I am using it for the first time smoking pork spare ribs and a shoulder! Earlier, I pulled off some hot & sweet Italian snausages I put on to fill in the open grate by the shoulder. They are awesome! I now need to see if my ribs are done. The roast needs a bit more time! Happy Independence Day to all!

    • @PatrickSipperly

Hi Karen, thanks for checking out the video and subscribing! I have zero experience the Eggs, so I can't offer any comparison advice. Has he complained about it at all? Things he doesn't like about it? If it's not putting out really smokey meats, a change of pellets might give better results (and be cheaper!) On the other hand, if he'd like to have more racks to smoke more, or some other obvious reason to add a vertical smoker, then this could be an amazing gift. Hello E Colby! In my opinion, yes, provided you've got good ventilation. Smokers put out a lot of smoke and it will fill your garage with smoke. If you don't have some efficient way to let that smoke escape, then I wouldn't do it. The smoke is thick and it will get in and on everything.

    • @PatrickSipperly
      @PatrickSipperly  5 лет назад

Hi James. So far I've used it to smoke beef jerky, salmon, and pork ribs. The only issue so far was that the flame went out once and I had to nurse it back to life. The temperature fluctuates drastically then evens out which is probably why the directions say to let it burn for like 10-15 minutes before putting the meat on and beginning the smoke process. I didn't do that. Perhaps that's a uniqueness of vertical smokers. That being said, my wife and I both think we're getting a smokier flavor to whatever we've smoked so far with it. It's much easier to maneuver around than my Austin XL which is a beast! I'm happy with it so far and will be smoking more meat soon.

I just bought the Pit Boss ,vertical, pellet smoker, Pro series; today, from Lowes (about $300. plus). you are correct, it is very heavy to handle, by yourself. Fortunately, I had some store help, to help me put it in the back seat of my Lexus sedan. It fit ,but not without having to take it out of the boxed packaging first! I accidentally saw the packing, warning about not standing it up right at first, and that saved me some damage to the smoker. when unloading it at the house. Since I am a first time smoker, since many, many years of smoking, Thanks for the tip on smoking some other items, like veggies.I was hoping, that you would have showed some furthers tips on how to use that new smoker.Boo! **BEWARE FIRE HAZARD**
I have been a firm believer and user of this product for some time now. I have done many smokes almost weekly. I maintain and clean my smoker after every use. I have recently found an issue that is concerning and could cause a fire on long smokes. Under the unit were the thermometer line comes through, there is a big hole that allows the grease to run down onto the electrical wires and connectors. It has the potential to cause a fire.

Great question@@Grandpa_RLP. Pellet smokers offer smoke that comes on intensely then slowly dissipates, comes back intense, dissipates, and on and on over the duration of your smoking time. @@PatrickSipperly Temperature performance, does it reach desired temp, hold temp, are heat gauges accurate. Any discrepancies in advertised performance and actual performance. Thanks Patrick. I've waited along time but now I'm ready to get a smoker. Been doing my research and cant honestly find really good reviews on moderatly priced smokers.

Sorry....not much of a review without discussing how it holds temperature, ease of cleaning, ease of use, durability, quality....etc.

You know what, Michael... you're right. I could have mentioned more things like that. Perhaps, I need to do another, more in-depth review. I have another video comparing my Austin XL to this Vertical smoker coming out soon. I did a first impressions video here: ruclips.net/video/Py96uYclKvI/видео.html

Totally uninformative. If I wanted a description of the product I can go to the web site. If your going to do a "Review" tell how it works what are the drawback? does it keep constant temperature? does it blow fuses? does it actually smoke properly? is it hard to clean? unfortunately this vid is a waste of time.
