Fender made acoustics with the Strat-style headstocks for a long time. I played an old Malibu over 20 years ago. Wanted one ever since (finally got a Newporter Player this year).
Excellent review! The guitar sound beautiful to me. I have borderline PTSD since the 90s from trying to learn guitar on a cheap fender acoustic. Everytime I see a strat/tele, I wanna play it but a fender acoustic= cringe. Thanks to you and this Newporter line, my road to rediscovery of fender acoustics has begun.
For years I wanted a good sounding acoustic with a strat neck - though I am a more advanced player I am still searching for budget friendly. Is this it?
The video is very informative, thank you very much... I bought one of those new porter special mahogany guitars a while ago... and I suspected that its pream (internally) is not the real Fishman one, that they changed it for me... ..how could I make sure that pream is ???on the outside it looks the same...but on the inside I don't know if someone from the store could have replaced it with another...could that be the case???? Is it something that some technician could adapt? Regards
I played the turquoise Newporter at GC yesterday. It's a BEAUTIFUL guitar with its turquoise front and wood on the sides/back. It's a thin bodied guitar so it's very comfortable to play but that can thin out the tone quite a lot.
I highly suggest you look at a Zager or something else with much better quality than these Fenders. I made the mistake of buying a Paramount recently...and not only is the product itself little more than a train wreck but their customer service hasn't been much better. Even on Fender's Custom Shop someone recently posted a review talking about the warped neck, fried electronics and other serious issues on a 3400$ Jazzmaster bass...to expect any better from guitars that cost a fraction of that price from a company that's NOTORIOUS for quality control issues right now is little more than a mistake.
@@IcabodCrane Man, you just seem to be everywhere critisizing the new California. I strongly suggest you play one first. If you are so dissapointed with your Paramount, then why did you bought it in the first place? You should always play a guitar before you buy it, no matter what company. I bought a Redondo special, all solid wood and it is awesome, love it from the first minute i have played it.
@@dissco.partysan3333 I'm left handed so I can't just walk into a store and buy the guitar I want, I have to order them from states away. If you'd spent half as much time reading the description or listening to my video as you apparently do stalking my comments you'd know that. You can love your guitar all you want, Hell I love mine due to the sentimental value... but it doesn't make it anywhere near a Gibson, a Martin, or even a 100 series Taylor. They have the worst fretwire I've ever seen on a guitar (including my 100$ Samick from the 90's). They're objectively worse than Eastmans in the same price range and Eastman doesn't use CNC machines or Toona sinensis (the reason they painted your Redondo). There's a reason it's known as "Chinese Cedar" just as much as "Chinese Mahogany", as the janka hardness is roughly 600 and it's a fraction the price of even the lowliest piece of Khaya or Sapele. There's also a reason boutique shops stock sub 1000$ Eastmans but wouldn't touch a Fender with a stick.
@@DustyNonya What? I think you are confusing me with somebody else. I didn't stalk nobody,i wrote one comment/response to IcaboodCrane and that's it.I bought a Redondo Special and it is just great, i'm very satisfied. For the price i paid i wouldn't get a solid body Martin or Taylor, they were only with laminated back and sides. I play a guitar before i buy it, you on the other hand are stuck with names and you are judging products just on the basis of their brand names, which is totally wrong. I played Yamahas and Takamines that were better than Martins, Taylors and Gibsons. Mostly they are all overpriced, especially Gibson who went into bankruptcy this year is a recent example, i bought and Epiphone instead and it is great.
@@dissco.partysan3333 So your response to the lack of Fender's quality is " "I've played Takamine and Yamaha Guitars that were better" as if they don't also make high end guitars LOL. No wonder you're stuck playing a Redondo... As for "Judging by brand names" LOL, Nobody knows who Eastman is compared to Fender, Takamine, Martin, Gibson, Taylor, Cort, Larivee, etc. I can't blame you, though...when I couldn't afford a decent guitar I convinced myself my 100$ Samick was better than my friend's Brazilian Hummingbird. Cute to mention Gibson's bankruptcy though, Fender's looking at serious litigation in Europe for their price fixing schemes. I highly suggest you educate yourself in tonewoods that don't smell and sound like hamster-shavings.
Can someone please tell me what is the difference between Fender California Series Special and Classic guitars? All I was able to find online is that the classic ones have an upgraded koa binding and rosette, but I couldn't find any info on the differences in build quality? I'd like to know if one is built better than the other, or is the difference purely cosmetic?
They are solid wood compared to the Players which are laminate back and sides. Between the special and classic, I’m not as I couldn’t find a difference on Fenders website
I grabbed the turquoise blue one a few days ago, but mine says Newporter Classic, not sure what the difference is... One thing I like about the black one here is the satin finish, much love for satin finishes. Pretty happy with my blue one except for the high gloss fingerprint magnet, it's a constant struggle to keep it clean.
Looking for a good acoustic that i can actually solo on. One that notes bend well on. This was posted as a guitar for electric fans. Do notes bend well on this ?
Love this guitar, played one recently at a local big chain music store in Nashville! I'm wondering if you could do a review comparing the Newporter Special to a Taylor 214 CE? I would think those should be a somewhat reasonable comparison (even though the Fender is all solid, but they are at least in a similar price range and both include a gig bag). I have the Redondo Player in Sunburst, which i absolutely love and intend to keep but I am starting to think about getting a next level smaller body guitar such as the 214CE Plus or possibly the deluxe. However if the Fender Special or Classic are comparable that would be helpful to know as something to consider. I happen to love the playability and look of the Newporter, plus the Fishman pickup system is outstanding! However I'm not sure if they are in the ballpark of the 214CE. Ultimately I know the only way to be sure is to sit in a room with those guitars and play them both acoustically and through whatever amp one uses (I use a Fishman Loudbox Mini). But I really appreciate your content and thoughts on these types of things and I'd be curious to hear Cooper's thoughts as well!
Matte finish painted guitars are a really bad idea. Dull poly works well over a light or medium trans color, such as the lighter satin finishes on the back of most fender necks. But I wouldn't want a black guitar that's permanently grease-stained on the body.
Jesus Christ this man can play the guitar. I'll order it if this gentleman arrives with it.

Would be great if you'd demo the electronics as well on electric acoustic guitars.
This black one is amazing
We have them in stock!
ariel Cruz that’s what she said
I was waiting for it 😂😂😂
I just bought the all mahogany newporter special. It's my favorite guitar and I own a Taylor 324ce and a GS Mini Koa.
Bought the candy apple red and guys I must say great sound keeps tune and balance weights 0 to nothing love it and man is it sexxy hahahah

Hi, is this guitar electroacustic? Does it has the amp connector?
yes it is an electroacustic and amazing pick ups
Do you recommend getting this guitar or a fender sonoran?

Sounds good strummed, just needs a black or clear pick guard.
does the preamp has low battery indicator?
Are the Malibu and Redondo the same body size?
I don’t know how the sound is in the room or plugged in but it sounds fantastic with the mic!
Nice demo!
So what are the differences between the special and the classic lines? Just the koa decor?
Sounds really even, balanced. Thanks!
Sir please make a review with fender newporter redondo & cd 140sce & which 1 to get
I have a newporter classic acb. Its my favorite so far way better than my ibenez
Which is better this or fender cd140sce all mahagony
What kind of strings come on it?
I really like the looks of it...odd..but I like odd. 😬
Probably Fender Duratones with the coating. Ironically the strings are better quality than the guitar, though.

Thanks for the review, looking to replace my 26 year old DG-7, taking a serious look at these.

nice playing. its a beautiful song. is it country ?
Too bad you didn't show off the electronics [through and amp] settings!
NICE SOUND
Surprisingly, here it sounds way better than fender's commercials
this or martin? please don't judge
Did you buy the Fender....
beautiful
