The chromed out texture of Zhou's helmet's design is inspired by 螺钿(Luo-dian), a type of traditional Chinese craft made by inserting nacre or mother of perl into a carved surface of lacquer (usually black). Definitely one of most creative and well designed integration of a driver's own culture into helmet design, it makes so much sense with his template
Zhou has always had the best helmet designs.
I don't know why he doesn't get enough credit for it.

Nah tommo. Magnussen's helmet is at least a small bang. It is unique it has nice colours and it also has a bird on it.

Personally I'd move KMag to mid and Max to minor clang.
I absolutely love Zhou lid, especially during a night race, those flood lights are gonna make it pop. That and Gasly I think is quite smart and gives it an almost “ high end “ style with the blue and white
Tsunoda's Helmet not being at least mid - small bang is a violation
Bottas's helmet at mid is crazy. Most interesting helmet on the grid, outside of maybe albons.
I want a shiny version of bottas lid though thats why its a small bang for me. Zhou is best of the bunch though!!

Russell's helmet is such a clanger IMO. It has a unique shade of blue (not any more though because of Gasly) but that's all it has going for it. It doesn't even have an interesting or memorable design like they had in the 70s-80s, such as Graham/Damon Hill's helmet. He needs some kind of actual design that isnt either A) Identical to several other drivers (Ocon, Leclerc, Stroll) or B) a uniquie element like Gilles Villeneuve or Jody Scheckter's helmet
Its mid on its own but contrasts well with the Mercedes suit
Hey Tommo, when you said Logan’s helmet design could inspire an unreal livery for Williams I couldn’t help but want to see it 😍 This would be great as a bonus livery vid to end the offseason, maybe with an alternative inspired by Albon’s design too. KUTGW!

I kinda miss George’s red helmet that he wore in 2020 and when he subbed for Lewis at Sakhir. The red and black was a banger for me.

I'm glad you moved Tsuonda's up, because I think Minor Clang was a bit harsh. Mid is perfect. I disagree with you a lot on KMag's. I love how they use the Haas logo as the centerpiece and everything plays off of that. But the other two in Clanger...they are horrendous. Williams has it going on with their helmets. I also would've moved Verstappen down to Small Bang, and I'm glad you moved the lime green one down to small bang.
So objectively to me ocons helmet is better than leclercs im afraid. My issue with your ratings too is that you call out contrasting colour schemes but then love alonsos. It just doesnt make sense 😅
Pierre’s helmet is absolutely brilliant imo, definitely a banger for me
Stroll has had the best helmet in f1 since 2021, the green can’t miss with the aston martin. He just blends with the car so much, it’s unreal
This might be an unpopular opinion but I loved the bright green helmet (and number on the car) Russell briefly had at the start of last season before switching back to blue.
His 2022 Helmet was very nice as well. I think he should rotate the helmets he wore in 22, 23 greens & the blue lid
I was watching some onboard footage of Zhou during the night session, his helmet especially on top looks like it is moving with the chrome on top giving off different colors when the lights hits it. It’s really amazing to watch
My fav is Lando's Gil De Ferran helmet the simplicity is so nice, but also Yuki's helmet is really cool! Haas have a mid car and mid helmets what is going on there

Both Haas helmets and Yuki's helmet would be in my top 5
Hulk's is absolutely shocking. Him and Oscar are the worst helmets by far.
I think if Yukinused white again instead of a dark color as the bg, it would’ve been a small bang

I far prefer the contrast between the leaves and the navy to the white of last year's. Also I just don't think I like white helmets much... Hulkenberg's (or should I say Hlknbrg?) is awful! I like the green but that's about it...
Is Hulkenberg's helmet in purple and green as a nod to Marvel's Hulk in the comics who shares those colours? Wouldn't be surprised

Albon and lando are so good. I’ve never been a fan of typical helmet color layouts
Vettel was (and still is) the undisputed king of F1 Helmet designs. Also how is Piastri minor clang and Alonso minor bang if they're basically identical?
Also, and that's personal taste i don't care much for Logan's helmet and i really don't like Max's. Max best colour combination in my opinion was the "world champion" dark blue helmet last year.
I do agree on Albon's helmet looking great, and I really like Charles' too.

Honestly the one I liked the most is Lando's tribute to Gil. It's just an amazing throwback, I will always prefer simplicity in both design and colours over anything else. Albon's also pretty amazing, and I think Leclerc's one would take my third spot on the podium.
Clangers are pretty much the same, but i do think Hulkenberg's is the worst of them all.
My guess is Tommo says a few controversial statements in the opinion based videos to create engagement like putting George’s flat bland helmet towards the top

It’s clearly a matter of personal taste and understanding/appreciation of design principles as applied to helmets. Mostly good ones with a few that feel a bit flat, so I think your distribution in numbers per category (not necessarily actual helmets) is about right! Cheers mate!
I got choked up when you showed Lando's tribute helmet. It was perfect - simple, clean, and by copying the design of de Ferran, it completed its "mission". I'm sure that for those of us old enough to have watched that gent race, it brought back some awesome memories.
I'm not normally into livery and helmet designs, though it helps when the drivers more or less stick to one throughout their career - like Graham and Damon Hill's London Rowing Club one. It helps me spot them on a smaller screen.
I must admit that I have a particular taste for "minimalist" decoration, regardless of what it's on, so any "fussy" designs are automatically on the clanger list. But to surprise myself, because I hate neon green (and lime), of the "regular" helmets, Valtteri's is one of my faves. I think you were right saying that the slightly swirly green on black represents the northern lights, and I know that the star cluster is a constellation, probably one permanently in the north (which of course I can't remember right now!). My assumption is that it's all in reference to Finland (probably bloody obviously!?). The green is just that bit less intrusive than the green on the car, which makes it easier to like. Though I do like some others, this one _not_ being full of smaller images and lots of writing, just sets it off a treat.
Would be nice if you did a helmet redesigns for each driver the same way you do car liveries. At least give it a shot based on the knowledge you have of their designs in the past.
I really don’t agree with your rating of Logans helmet. That is for me a mild clang at best

Tbh love the way Russel’s helmet matches his car. A lot of drivers don’t match their helmet to their car, which I get, but it just makes sense to match it with the car for me
yeah, Ocon's especially is jarring in the car
One of my favourite schemes was Merc with Nico in a neon yellow helmet, gloves and boots and Michael with the red helmet, gloves and boots to match their T cams.
Landos just coppied the arsenal away kit 😂 and oscar will make his helmet colour pallete iconic 🥶

I agree with Tommo. His helmet has too many colors which don't blend well together.
Plus I'm sick of the neon yellow. Too many drivers have it, so it's not special anymore.
Valentino Rossi had it as his signature color, and that's fair, but 4 drivers ?

i like how the helmet (with the visor down) immediately hits you as the dutch flag full frontal when you see max in-cockpit camera view
You should do a live stream or video at the end of the season with every other helmet that the drivers have throughout the season

Interesting list, I definitely don't agree with it though.
Here is how I would rank them kind of in this order:
Banger: Zhou, Tsunoda, Leclerc, Norris, Verstappen
Small Bang: Hamilton, Alonso, Sainz, Stroll, Magnussen, Sargeant
Mid: Ocon, Piastri, Russell
Minor Clang: Ricciardo, Hülkenberg, Pérez, Gasly
Clangor: Albon, Bottas

Litterally Bottas's and Zhous Helmets are better than anything you've put in Banger especially Landos neon which is an absolute clanger, same as Albons, it's grim.
Shocking list for the most part I'm afraid lad but each to their own, still love the content!
Bottas' looks awful, I like the idea but it just looks like a cheap spraypaint job! Easy clanger, I can't believe he rated it so high.
And Lando's is THE BEST ONE imo! Well it's up there with Albon's which I agree with Tommo, is amazing. And I don't even like that disgusting salmon pink that Tommo uses but it somehow works here.
Out of interest, what did you think of Ricciardo's McLaren era helmets? Tommo seems to love them but I think they were absolutely hideous.

LEC's looks like a loo seat, when viewed from above. SAR's and RIC's are some of the standard helmets you can choose from in a video game. I just don't see what Tommo can see, apparently

My banger is Lando's helmet. Checo's color combo is my favorite, but the design is my definition of mid. Never did understand the yellow on Lewis' purple lid - still a clanger in my books compared to the black base from years back.
The yellow on hamiltons im pretty sure thats like a. tribute to rossi or smth , he said before when rossi retired he would use his purple and yellow
The original yellow was for Senna.
Idk that but the blend of purple and yellow was because he couldnt use it when rossi was racing so when he retired hamilton started using it@@walover165
2:55 tommo, the OakBerry is an açaí brand. Açaí is a brazilian fruit from the amazon rainforest, not quite an frozen yogurt, not quite an ice cream. It's very unique and it's amazing

Honestly think you should rank them from the drivers perspective, there’s so much going on with each design that no one but themselves can explain the reasoning behind. Helmets like Lewis’ is defo not mid and Max’s is just full of sponsors with no unique touch to it. Piastri’s is literally like Fernando’s but you have them two tiers apart. I just don’t get it, respectfully

Max's is unique. Its the same template his dad used in his racing career and Max as well when he was young. Its actually a classic and really smartly composed.
Yeah I can't see a reason for ranking max's so high and lewis' mid other than falling for the hype around all the max fans and believing he can do no wrong.

lol outrageous video. The Sauber boys have the best ones and Riccardo. I especially love the Bottas one. That green goes beautifully with the new car colors and i am a sucked for the night sky.
gasly is the clear number one for me. my favourite driver, my favourite colour, really really nice design. bosh. so clean.

i really liked the color matchup on Yukis helmet, but his helmet would suit him more if he was in the red bull seat with max

Zhou's Helmet bangs every year. Great colours, cultural elements to design, goes with the cars. Perfection each year. I hope he does well in the new Sauber

I don’t like how helmet designs these days don’t really serve as an identifier for the driver, they change so often it doesn’t carry any value anymore. Not that you can really see the design anyway when in the car.

Yuki's is an improvement IMO. Definitely a banger. The leaves stand out better against the navy than they did on white. Plus I guess I just don't like white helmets much.
Sainz's isn't great, both the Ferrari ones seem too noisy to me, just a bunch of lines, but at least the yellow makes it more interesting than Charles'. As far as red helmets go, I prefer Esteban's, it's not too complicated, and for some reason I like the big E on the side. It's pretty mid but it's definitely not a clanger.

Interesting that you think Oscar's helmet looks like Alonso's, but it actually reminds me of Mark Webber's.
Leclercs is such a clanger far too messy and all reds leads to no contrasts at all.
Also Landos is a banger for sure, very unique design and magnussen is at least mid too

Thought you were pretty harsh with esteban's helmet lol. The "background carbon fiber" is an "E" for Esteban. I feel like the E is supposed to be more of the foreground and the reddish is the background.

I never understood why Hamilton moved away from the all-purple design, it was so good and became so iconic. He should ditch the highlighter yellow and go back to that.
I think he wants people to see the purple design as remember the dominant years.
And Lewis's yellow helmet, with the yellow parts on the car is just looks so good. In my opinion.

For me, lando’s, zhou’s and russell’s/gasly’s are my favorite, I would swap all the small bangers with the bangers, but hey, its cool everyone has different perspectives🤙🏼
