My uncle Johnny, back in 1973 or thereabouts, sent away for these metal detecting kits that you could put together yourself. They have a blue power box, aluminum arm and a white foot; ran on a 9-volt battery. No indicators except the sound you heard passing over a metallic object. You could wear headphones too, if you wanted to. After some time we got so good at hearing the different tones that we done found us 100's of valuable finds: gold and silver coins, jewelry, rings, etc. We was from the Stuart, FL area and usually hunted Jensen beach, Vero beach, Jupiter Island, Merritt Island-- haunts like that. We found so much loot over the time before you could just go and buy an already made rig that we just preferred our kits. I still have one of them, too and it works as good as it ever did. I greatly enjoy your show. Aint nothing like turning in a good day of treasure hunting. I have many, many boxes and bags of my finds since 1973. I never throw much out. I really enjoy your show and videos on Appalachia as I am a novelist and I'm setting the beginning of one of my books in Western NC., where my uncle Johnny eventually retired to. Love all the stories and researching the lay of the land, the wildlife, plants, trees, tales, legends etc. Appalachia is the most magical place on God's earth in my opinion. I lived in the mountains of PA for a year and regretted having to leave. What are some of your strangest experiences of the area and any stories about tracking through those mountains, if any? Be pleased to know. Thank you for your time and you'll garner a mention in my researching that area.

The fun is in the hunt, cousin Donnie, never knowing what your next hit will be? I lost my class ring in a friend's yard many years ago. Several years later, I met a fellow with a metal detector, and he let me borrow it. I went all over that yard with no luck whatsoever. One of these newer detectors might be more successful, as that was over 40 years ago? Might try it one day. Hope you're still feeling better each day, Donnie! Prayers still going up, and G-d bless, cousin!

Those Tesoro's were the only machines that could tell the difference between a nickel and a square pull-tab. You could roll the disc. forward while swinging the coil over it and the nickel would always be discriminated out before the square pull-tab was. I knew exactly where a nickel would go out, it would be a nickel nearly every time. I still own 6 Tesoros. Love your videos. That 600 is a great machine.

Trash leads to treasure Donnie ! Keep pounding at it there . Look some distance away from the house , another flat area or a likely spot for the older home that burned down ! You should find melted objects or nails and such that's been burned black ! Once you get into that your in the older spot ! Happy New Year and keep digging !

I wish you'd saved that '"big ole hunka metal". It kinda looked like a pressed zinc ornament. In the late1800's into the 1930's cornice works would solder ornamental pressing onto plain galvanized cornice to "fancy" them up. If I'm right, the house that burned down was probably pretty nice.

About where you would come out of the tunnel on the Tennessee side years ago to the left there would have been a restaurant called the little tunnel in. Could you see if you could find stuff on it and do a video on the little tunnel in. One thing I remember about that restaurant was it had a sign outside that said approved by Duncan Hines.

I think old houses that have been occupied to modern times are the toughest. I go into cherry picking mode. Deep, small and above 40 on my Garrett.

Many people see a video or a buddys tale and spend a bundle on equipment thinking they will go find a fortune. Them other vids and your buddy dont tell ya for every good find , they dug 1000 or more to find it. It is a great way to just get outside movin and get some exercise if nothing else , I have done a little , need to get back out.

I'm waiting on surgery to get both hips replaced. I love to metal detect but I'm not swinging his fancy equipment as you got I'm swinging a Pioneer 305 by Bounty Hunter. I have to lose about 60 pounds before the doctor operate on me. I'm a fat Middlesbrough boy. LOL but you see how you lay down the ground to dig for your treasure which one would have to do unless you're rich and have a butler to do it for you LOL well if I get down on the ground like that right now I won't be able to get back up. I'm mostly in a wheelchair I can walk short distances but I have no mechanical ability in my hips to lift myself back up off the ground. But the operation will happen soon or I hope soon depends on how fast I lose this weight. And Thanksgiving Christmas and New Years did not help. So from one Bell County boy to another happy New Year to you Donny and thanks for all the entertaining videos. One day I'm going to catch up with you and meet you unless you meet me in my wife Catherine.

All those .45 shells you're finding may mean some gangsters lived there in the late 20's early/mid 30's practicing with their Tommy guns. Who knows?
