Nice spot to hunt. That house looks like it's still standing perfectly plumb, straight and true, that's so awesome to me to see these beautiful old buildings standing up to time. They really took great effort to build something like that. Great hunt you guys!

Hats off to you guys and all other humans that work extremely hard to literally find and exhume history from under our feet! I absolutely love history and the hidden stories that it holds just waiting for someone such as yourselves to unearth it from the dirt! You guys are doing a wonderful thing by digging up artifacts that were once lost to time and learning about them and teaching others about what life was like for those brave and courageous humans that lived through some of the toughest times throughout the history of our country and other countries around the world! So again,I tip my hat to you amazing humans for just doing what you do! Never stop being you and digging up the past to learn and teach about what it was like to live in "ye olden times"! Great content and as always,Keep on keepin on my friends!😊

I don't know if it was ever a thing to do with lead plate, but that lead square on a loop of string reminds me of the thing that hangs down on a wind chime, or maybe something similar that might have been used to try to keep birds away

@@nickimpala8886 I meant the part that hangs down below it and catches the wind, not a part that would actually be making contact with the other metal to make noise, Lead is dead

In the early colonial times German settlers did a practice for good luck, like the horse shoe over the front door. They would bury a small cache of coins in each cardinal direction away from the house. While building the house they would often place a cache in the masonry over the front door.

Look at the coin at @14:50. Pay attention to details. Then look at the coin @15:20. Note the lack of details. You guys need to look into alternative methods of field cleaning and onsite preservation of artifacts. Many other methods besides the belt sander. Awesome videos guys!! Keep finding the good stuff, and try not to break it when you do.

The plaque you noticed on the side of the house appears to be an apotropaic marker (symbols of protection to ward off witches/evil, so-on, so forth) given the age of the house. But I could be mistaken.

I heard a coin collector say one time that if you find an old coin ,,,do not rub the dirt off with your fingers . It will put light scratches that will decrease the value some. A squirt bottle and plastic brush only should be used.

1:02 mark, the first item could be a chit of some sort. I don't know what state you are in but slaves and indentured servants had chits to travel to towns and other plantations or homes. At the 8:15 mark, that smooth disk could be a part of a steam valve used as a burst valve.

That piece of lead could have been used as a throwing weight for the lines that hold a boat cover on. I use something similar and tie it onto the tie downs before tossing them under the boat trailer.
