The coyote engine is actually known to have issues with pumping all the oil to the top of the engine, passenger side specifically at sustained high rpm's. Ford's cheap fix was to add 2 additional quarts of oil with the composite oil pan starting in 2018.

The 10 speed trans has to be modded for track use on the GT. The Mach 1 is better as it has upgraded cooling but even those can still have troubles. Plenty of discussion on various Track Mustang forums on what needs to be done and the parts available to make it work (and live) I know a gentleman with a 2018 GT that he’s turned into a track only car. He told me he upgraded the cooling system for the trans so it’s a separate system (stock it’s tied into the engine cooling system) He also had the internals upgraded to improve shift performance and durability. I’ve ridden in it a couple times at our local track and it’s mind blowing how much better it is……it feels like a DCT when it goes through the gears…..very fast, firm shifts. @@falcon_gt_5.0 After 107 Celsius, varnish forms in the transmission fluid and it settles literally throughout the entire box, plus there have already been slipping clutches. I would immediately inspect the entire transmission, since we can definitely talk about burning of the clutches and the filter becoming dirty with their wear products. And God forbid you do a complete replacement of the transmission fluid, the transmission will die - only a partial replacement. But it’s still better to do a complete removal and inspection before the metal begins to deteriorate.
I’m glad to hear, but still, the transmission is definitely worth checking asap, since slipping of the clutches is serious, roughly speaking, you now have debris particles from the clutch pack floating in the transmission fluid. They wear out the pump, become clogged in the torque converter, filter, and damage the valves. Plus, the transmission fluid burns when the clutch pack slips. As with all hydraulics, the sooner you service it, the cheaper it will be in the end. If it’s not difficult, please post the results of the inspection here.
It's hard to keep the a10 happy on extended track sessions. It's got alot of potential but it's very finicky. There are mods out there to keep trans fluid flowing through the cooler all the time but the a10 doesn't like really cold fluid either and that hurts daily driveability.

the coyote oil pump has 3 different stages of pressure, my 2019 gt sits at about 20 psi till 3.5k rpm, jumps to 60 psi, and above 6 thousand it is at about 100 psi.
@FairladyS130 that's because the pressure spikes momentarily as the whole motor comes up the PSI that the pump is putting out. Once the whole motor's oil pressure equalizes, the pressure come back down a bit. Plus, once the spring in the oil pump bottoms out, at about 7k, the pressure steadily rises a bit up to redline due to the volume of oil flow increasing with rpm. Also, depending on the state of the Variable Cam Timing solenoid position, the oil pressure will raise and fall (slightly) depending on position of that solenoid.
@@catto191 Note that the oil pressure is generally and more consistently around 5 bar for the first few minutes and then starts to vary more widely as the lap continues. I suspect the thinner hotter oil is having an effect on the electronics you mentioned plus there could be momentary oil starvation.
This is why you get a manual...preferably the TR6060 over the MT82 which is standard in the GT, but even the MT82 holds stock power fine. This and also fun on the street.
Awesome to see a vehicle from the states putting in some laps on track. Although it looks like a better trans and engine oil cooler is in order. I would also look at a baffled sump, oil pressure got as low as 20psi.
@@crodrc51able yeah that’s what I said it needs an engine and trans cooler or a trans and engine cooler. But the drop in oil pressure is far more worrying to me. That new gt86 is learning about that the hard way.

Allein durch die richtigen Zusätze, lagen die Temperaturen bei uns plötzlich einige Grad drunter!! Wir waren damals absolut verblüfft wie viel das ausgemacht hat, konnten es überhaupt nicht glauben.
I have the same transmission in my Ford F150 pushing 604HP and 665lbft even with Aux cooler it'll sit at around 100C in traffic conditions and continue heating up quickly so I usually lock it in 1st or 2nd. It handles power fine, but is so spongy on shifting it just heats up.
Awesome driving skills Misha. I just wanna clarify on the stock 10 speed mustang you drove before it doesn't change the redline you must have been hitting the stock speed governor in the stock mapping. I have the premium model that has the different drive modes and it shifts very well. I however got a custom palm beach mapping for E85 and trans tuning as well.
Nobody breaks your car like Misha. Even so, the owner always laughs, I suppose it's a bit nervous, caused by the ridiculousness of having lent your car. They continue to lend their car to Misha, it doesn't end here.
RIP little animal :(, i didnt know mustangs are so good on the track, prolly most work done from the KW suspension, didnt know the tansmition can overheat O_O
I had this happen to me once - the transmission fluid simply cooked itself and everything kind of stopped working for a while. So cooling it down won't necessarily solve the issue, though it should be fine to carefully drive to get serviced. Me, I didn't do that and the thing failed a few months later as the fluid was apparently no longer doing its job properly.
What oil was used in the motor and gearbox? Stock they drive 5w20 motoroil. Maybe also super thin and fast heating up gearbox oil. But yea its not a track ready car.
These 10r80 transmissions do have issues. I’ve seen on forums that they overheat on highway drives sometimes. Some from the factory come overfilled actually which will cause overheating issues.
The issue is not immediately changing the fluid after it gets cooked. Running on half-dead trans fluid increases wear to the point where the thing IS dead in a few months. Now, if the car is 8 years old and never had the fluid changed, then it's probably mostly turned to sludge and you have no options. But on something new like this, I'd change it every year if you track it.
Yesss! More Mustang action! So you know, Jorg at Fiege Performance (the base of Steeda Germany) is developing a A10 Automatic transmission cooler scoop, as they can overheat quite easily. Also don't worry @mgcharoudin the Dark Horse is definitely coming to Europe and there will be a Steeda Q500 GT and a Steeda Dark Horse available in Europe soon too!
How do you cool down the gearbox ? Slow driving? Or high rpm? Or ghosting? I wonder.... Maybe just park it? Or do you get hot spots on the clutch gears in the gearbox?
@@smokeyfish7435 ehhh depends, blower cars make a ton of heat and you’re pushing that heat thru the trans as well. It’s just more proof that the trans is pretty stout, if you don’t wanna use drag racing then roll racing is the same thing but you’re moving a lot more.
I've gotten into arguments elsewhere with americans singing the praises about how amazing their big old all American v8s are and this is a case in point. Engines fine but as soon as you put sensors on stuff the car is quick to inform how maybe it's not so brilliant after all...
Ford's AI on their transmissions is and has always been a bit brain-dead. I remember test-driving one and almost getting t-boned due to it simply taking a full second to shift into second at a light. It.. got confused and THEN decided to shift rather abruptly. In traffic, this is.. annoying and we are used to slow shifts. On a track, this is.. worrying to say the least.

I really, really like those Han Solo Lucky Dice. I have the same in my car.
Good choice 👌
This is why you get a manual...preferably the TR6060 over the MT82 which is standard in the GT, but even the MT82 holds stock power fine.
This and also fun on the street.
Awesome to see a vehicle from the states putting in some laps on track. Although it looks like a better trans and engine oil cooler is in order. I would also look at a baffled sump, oil pressure got as low as 20psi.
Trans is fine, just needs a cooler.
@@crodrc51able yeah that’s what I said it needs an engine and trans cooler or a trans and engine cooler. But the drop in oil pressure is far more worrying to me. That new gt86 is learning about that the hard way.
Amazing lap !!
Mustang doing Porsche things, interesting:D ( except overheating)
The Coyote in its nature is very European, glad to see Misha is loving this platform.
Nice video, thanks for it
thank u ford posting this vid
I have the same transmission in my Ford F150 pushing 604HP and 665lbft even with Aux cooler it'll sit at around 100C in traffic conditions and continue heating up quickly so I usually lock it in 1st or 2nd. It handles power fine, but is so spongy on shifting it just heats up.
Noticing a pattern of people outfitting amazing cars, and not doing enough with cooling.
At least it finished the lap!
So far only driven the car on public roads and never had temperature problems. Anyway transmission cooler will be installed next year.
Wow that oil pressure drops way too much to be comfortable for me🤣🤣
Ja das stimmt, bei meinem geht sogar ein Warnsummer an wenn ich eine Autobahnabfahrt in Kreis fliege.
Those 10 speeds need cooling and a tune for the motor and trans and it opens up the cars to longer and faster lap times
I NEED one!!!🫡💯
Nobody breaks your car like Misha.
Even so, the owner always laughs, I suppose it's a bit nervous, caused by the ridiculousness of having lent your car.
They continue to lend their car to Misha, it doesn't end here.
the 10R80 box in this car needs the learning turning off via coding ,plus they were under filled from factory with fluid
Now we see why it's a good idea to keep the stock tram program. Unless you upgrade the trans cooling, don't touch that in hot climate regions.
I love this guy's accent.
Ich fahre auch einen Mustang gt bj 2017 bin so glücklich darüber
If automatic is the owners choice, should trade the GT for a Mach 1 with the automatic. It has additional transmission and differential coolers.
9:56 smoke coming out from the car. Crazy. Probably few more corners and the engine/transmission is dead. Oil pressure way too low in the end.
Probably blow by, oil pressure drops as it’s in a lower rpm lol.
9:48 RPM at 8k....
Can't wait for misha to drive the dark horse 🔥
This is a beautiful car no doubt
Nice g force dice
What a shock a Mustang with overheating issues Misha 😆
However I was suprised how well it handled with KW V3’s 👌
it's not a track version...
Unfortunately it seems the biggest issue with these mustangs is the cooling. If that was sorted out it would be great.
RIP little animal :(, i didnt know mustangs are so good on the track, prolly most work done from the KW suspension, didnt know the tansmition can overheat O_O
That oil pressure, at the end…😮
Oil pressure is fine, it’s cruising at a lower RPM
1bar at idle…
Oil is probably at 130-140 degrees
@@matteosti1 that’s within spec lol
@@matteosti1 minimum* engine 120. And oil about 150. Its nice.😂 engine its broke i think actually.😂
9:48 RPM at 8k....hopefully thats not the issue.
The 10 speed is all pneumatically controlled, so the fluids must have been too loose for the trans to work properly.
Met testrijder Misha komt iedere te kortkoming aan het licht!
No surprise the transmission overheated, even automatic Shelby models have issues with overheating when pushed hard.
Awesome car🤘💪
Amazing car! 😍
I bet one of those 30-40 bucks trans coolers would do the trick, some good quality hoses and you are se
Really need to see a dark horse video!
I had this happen to me once - the transmission fluid simply cooked itself and everything kind of stopped working for a while. So cooling it down won't necessarily solve the issue, though it should be fine to carefully drive to get serviced. Me, I didn't do that and the thing failed a few months later as the fluid was apparently no longer doing its job properly.
i've said this before...but my next car won't be electric....it will be a V8 Mustang GT.....yep.......
You all freaking out about the oil pressure is why cars stopped displaying it and provided dummy gauges.
Good video
What oil was used in the motor and gearbox? Stock they drive 5w20 motoroil. Maybe also super thin and fast heating up gearbox oil. But yea its not a track ready car.
3:51 what's that company again? And do I interpret this correctly that it's a modded V3, with I assume different springs..?
Minature is gold
Fast and furious gearbox incarnate
These 10r80 transmissions do have issues. I’ve seen on forums that they overheat on highway drives sometimes. Some from the factory come overfilled actually which will cause overheating issues.
The issue is not immediately changing the fluid after it gets cooked. Running on half-dead trans fluid increases wear to the point where the thing IS dead in a few months. Now, if the car is 8 years old and never had the fluid changed, then it's probably mostly turned to sludge and you have no options. But on something new like this, I'd change it every year if you track it.
Casually notices road kill at 250kph. Legendary.
Dude I seriously want to know how he saw that going at the speed 😂
Performance pack car has a separate trans cooler and optional 10 speed auto
The oil pressure doesn't look a bit low? At the end of the video
Because low viscosity oil at hight temps. Thats why low pressure. This engines its rubbish now. 😂 120 celcius water its like 150 on oil.
Huge delay between the "click" and the actual gearshift. Reminds me of the V10 M5 gearbox.
How do you cool down the gearbox ? Slow driving? Or high rpm? Or ghosting? I wonder.... Maybe just park it? Or do you get hot spots on the clutch gears in the gearbox?
Low rpm high gear for a couple of mins.
@@hexagonosaurus5848 thanks, slow moving
@@Blasterxp no, you need to go fast. This 10 speed mustang can go 100kmh at 1200rpm. You neex airflow for the trans cooler to cool the oil.
282* F transmission temperature and 257* Coolant temp at 10:36
Oil pressure had me real concerned. The transmission temp was mildly concerning by comparison.
That car in the begining looked like the one that student engineer made from a while back.
Wow😳 hopefully that trans isnt fried. I bet it wouldn't have gotten that hot on the stock map. Too bad the owner didnt think about trans cooling.
I’ve seen these transmissions handle 7 second quarter mile passes this didn’t do much to it.
Interesting point you've made.
@@chisquare5701 there's definitely a reason for Ford limiting the rpms in certain gears.
@@169abrdrag races are not really the type of race known for overheating parts
@@smokeyfish7435 ehhh depends, blower cars make a ton of heat and you’re pushing that heat thru the trans as well. It’s just more proof that the trans is pretty stout, if you don’t wanna use drag racing then roll racing is the same thing but you’re moving a lot more.
I've gotten into arguments elsewhere with americans singing the praises about how amazing their big old all American v8s are and this is a case in point. Engines fine but as soon as you put sensors on stuff the car is quick to inform how maybe it's not so brilliant after all...
Just another day at the office...
8:03 I thought it was only my car that has delaying shfit
Ford's AI on their transmissions is and has always been a bit brain-dead. I remember test-driving one and almost getting t-boned due to it simply taking a full second to shift into second at a light. It.. got confused and THEN decided to shift rather abruptly. In traffic, this is.. annoying and we are used to slow shifts. On a track, this is.. worrying to say the least.
