I’d definitely recommend this movie to anyone who’s never seen it. Yeah, the younger Thor, Loki, and Sif is a bit weird, but the expansions of characters like the Warriors Three and Algrim are definitely worth it, especially for anyone who’s a fan of the more “Classic” Thor.

the warrior 3 were bullshit artist.
and thor got his ass beat but since he has to train in public they let him win.

I rented this movie from the local Blockbuster way back in the day. Today's kids will never know what it's like to just pick a movie based on the DVD case alone and wait until you get home to watch it, having no idea whether it's going to be a total dumpster fire of a film or a cinematic masterpiece

Oh, I actually have seen this! It was quite fun. I didn’t think it was too widely known though, which is a shame. I kinda wish there were more one-off projects like this where we get to see the individual characters in their element doing what they do best and going head on up against challenges that only they can face. I hope someday they bring stuff like this back, because these kinds of projects open the door for more creative story telling that doesn’t need to be restricted by any ongoing or existing continuity.

Tales of Asgard actually inspired me to Create my own Fanmade MCU for lack of a better word.
What I'm doing is similar to the Yostverse and MCU combined, it is heavily inspired by Spectacular Spider-Man, Iron-Man Armored adventures X-Men Evolution and of course Thor Tales of Asgard, even the Ultimate Marvel Comics helped me here.
The most prominent inspiration is most heroes are young teens, of course people like Professor X and Magneto are still old, adults but the main Heroes like Iron-Man Captain America etc... are all Teens to Young Adults.
In my timeline I make it in Stages instead of Phases and have Stage #1 almost completely figured out.
We Start with Thor's stories then go into X-Men and all the other Heroes and Captain America is designed like a TV Show but takes inspiration from Arrow where you have 2 Timelines his Wartime timeline and his Present Day Timeline and it flashes back and forwards until both timelines collide for example Season 1's Main Antagonist will be Baron Zemo but unlike EMH it's not the same one. War Time Zemo is Present day Zemo's Grandfather and etc... Anyway it's a long extricate timeline and the stuff you said in this video reminded me of certain stuff in my own fan thing, if you're interesting in collabing at all let me know if not no worries I'll simply continue supporting your channel with my views and likes lol.
So yeah, awesome video and look forward to your future videos.

This movie was great. I wish they also would have done a Tales of Asgard movie, similar to Tales of Ba Sing Sei in Avatar the Last Airbender. Would have been interesting to see what everyone gets up to. See Asgard from a completely different POV.

I remember this movie. I freaking loved it when I watched it on Amazon Prime. I watched it a few laters are it released and I think I was like 9ish. I loved all these forgotten marvel animated movies like this. Thanks for bringing back these memories!(Also I reccomend the animated movie "Planet Hulk")
EDIT: The part when he throws the hammer and it bounces from the walls which is obviously a reference to Thor getting mjolnir later on was great .Child me loved that moment. Loki was also a great character in it

I’ve actually recently seen this movie at the strangest time. I was on vacation in Disney and as I was suppose to go back home my flight was cancelled so my family decided to stay one more day. We went to a hotel and I put on the tv and surprisingly this was streaming on one of the channels. I watched the whole thing and I thought it was actually really good.

Tales of Asgard always felt like a good pilot for a show that never happened. While I am a tad cautious about how Marvel Studios will handle the animation department, the fact that they allowed them to handle an upcoming Marvel Zombies show and a continuation of the 90s X-men show shows that they are atleast more ambitious than the era when Marvel animation tried to ape the MCU in almost every single aspect.

Contrary to the near majority of the viewing audience, I actually LOVE this movie. Not only does it truly feel like a definitive Thor story (no space aliens, no science techno babble and no half-hazard changes to the Marvel roots) but it also gave me some serious D&D vibes too.
The only issue I had was the outrageously feminist behavior from Brunhilde, acting like she's exempt from the authority of Odin's will and trying to push that toxic mindset into the Valkyries. Aside from that; everything else from the cast, the animation, the music, the story and the mythology of the world was awesome

    • @DavidMartinez-ce3lp

I agree. Seems like with these female warrior types, their sexism is excused. You don't see arcs where the Amazons from DC comics stop hating men. I guess in the end, they did need saving by Thor and the Avengers in Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes.

I haven't watched this movie in years! after watching this video I went and did a rewatch and it is such a little hidden gem! Loki is my favorite marvel character and I love how we get a little glimpse of what could have been their dynamic in EMH or even in the MCU had things gone differently.

  • @zemox2534
    @zemox2534 2 года назад +5

If this film is set within the same universe as EMH, it makes Loki's descent into darkness far more tragic, since in the film, he was best friends either his brother and loved him dearly.

I was an adult when this came out, so outside the target audience, but I found it solidly enjoyable. Probably my second favorite Thor film after the Branagh one. I appreciate that it’s just an unabashed fantasy adventure. For me, it highlights how underutilized both the supporting cast and fantasy mythology of Thor have been in the MCU.

I think at the time I was younger I really wasn’t into these movies besides hulk vs but all these years later despite their varied quality, these movies are something really special. Each movie felt unique and never felt hampered by “connecting “ the greater universe they just wanted to tell great stories. I think if anything I miss the really stylized take on these characters like I’ve always drugged the art direction of this, next avengers, doctor strange, and planet hulk. I really miss animated movies like this and dcs old line up where the movies really tried to do justice to the source material

Me and a buddy, not long ago, talked about the possibility of doing things like this.
Our aspirations in getting into independent feature animation, which is becoming an ever decreasing possibility as we both are turning 31 this year with not a single published original work of fiction in any medium kill me now, had led me to the thought of one day working directly for disney marvel.
Sort of making a few direct to video features to compete with WB Animations on-going run of DC direct to home media films. Things made separate from the mcu. Not something I'd want to spend the rest of my career doing but I'd make a few of these and then move on, but I'd help them begin a profitable venture that gives me the opportunity to do some adaptational work that I'm interested in. One of my dream jobs is making a movie based on Kraven's Last Hunt.

Yes! I love this movie! It’s not the BEST thing ever but I would love to see more exploration of the different fantasy settings in Thor’s part of the world, and the theme about narratives not all adding up is perfect for Thor and Loki (especially given backstories etc). And Loki being “pretty unambiguously a hero” 👌 I wish we could get more of that.

I discovered this movie by total chance on Netflix a few years ago, and while I was skeptical at first, I really enjoyed it. The story was fun and unique, the characters were different but still recognizable, the animation was surprisingly okay, and teen!Loki is just adorable. I'm not a huge comic fan, so maybe I'm missing out on some things, but I felt this was a good way to incorporate comic storylines into Marvel movies and shows. I was really sad when Netflix removed ToA, and I don't think it's on Disney+ yet (EMH is on there, though), so I don't know if there's anywhere you can watch this film at the moment. It's so sad to find out the history behind this film, and how it fit into the Yostverse, only to learn that the old Marvel animated films were cut down in favor of more MCU-compliant productions.

There's no reference of space aliens in Thor's world, magic is purely magic (not "science we don't understand,") Captain America's character was a real soldier and leader and in Planet Hulk stands out as the better Hulk story than anything MCU came up with

Man I miss these.....those animated projects and movies where really good, I love actually this movie, for me is the best THOR FILM behind maybe only THOR 1 (sorry f Ragnarok, and F WAITITI).....what we got now is just so bad....all Disney animated projects been shows or films are all been awful, none of these projects came close to the worst in the Yostverse, that universe pay respect to the comics in the right way, each entry having it's own flavor, like Thor been a FANTASY CHARACTER and be treat as such, specially this film, I love this animation and the designs, I just wish MCU thor was anything close to Earth's Mightiest Heroes Thor or Tales of Asgard Thor, now the only way we ever will get that if is the MCU reboot, which if keep failing as bad as it doing in recent years.........maybe happen, but even there I fear they might start with Jane Foster as Thor instead of traditional Thor, or some bs like that.

any chance this animated feature be related with 'thor - son of asgard' comics?

I suppose it’s possible the film was inspired by that series, but I don’t think there are any concrete links between them, and the plots seem fairly disimilar!
