Man I remember playing Vesperia and Zesteria with my siblings and having fun with scares against difficult enemies and actual strategies, I did wish Arise was local Multi-player, but oh well, Ufotable did a good job with Arise and the animation :) Edit: I also had fun seeing my 3rd oldest brother finding hidden areas or items, too.
02:41 There's an even faster way to swap characters mid battle: Hold the target button (which you use for switching targets .. R2 on PlayStation) and while holding that press the character you want to switch too on the d pad .. instant switching.. No need for pause or anything.

Biggest tip: do not spam buttons all attacks need to come with intent since you can not cancel most artes. You will eat damage if you are spamming artes without following enemy attack patterns. The dodge without any buffs is very generous.
@wishstruck good point about going in with intent. I finally started checking enemy weaknesses at the start of battle and I've been terrorizing enemies lately. Shionne really makes battles easy with her amazing keep away skills. I beat a lvl54 creature on Hard(took an hour though) thanks to her. I was around lvl 30 too it was great

Should I do something major before this point in the game. Who has abilities that changes things drastically. Basically things that can get overlooked. Also what should you sell and not sell.
Slight word of advice, when you start the game, you'll pass a giant mantis that your teammate'll recommend you stay away from...LISTEN. It's not one of those "Well, I'm good at games, so I gotta test this" sort of challenges, it would probably take hours of not getting hit a single time to beat that fucker at the start of the game, I lasted like 10-15 minutes and couldn't see any difference in its lifebar. I'm halfway through and still nowhere near the level of the big bastard. You'll even get a sidequest for it relatively early, accept it, and come back MUCH later.

The tales games have always been great story wise. The combat has always been at best functional to me. So a tales game with straight action combat is a dream come true. Also you may wanna check out the Ys series.
One thing I got realize thanks to my friends who were also playing the game and watched me fight the boss was the importance of perfect evades and then making use of counters. I am a new player to tales franchise so that could be it too.
After I unlocked Reigning Slash I maxed it out right away and just went through the game obliterating everything with that move and double demon fang while I was waiting on a heal.

But they've definitely got the engine correct and I'm looking forward to future titles. I'm currently only 25 hours in and I'm kinda rushing the story as I'm so engrossed currently, then I think I'll replay and do everything 100%

For a Tales games it's actually a letdown. Bad combat AI that is less cutomizable than previous games, not fully voiced, etc. The only outstanding thing is the character and environment design and the story.
I was on the edge about getting this game because it was "just another anime jrpg gane" and was going to wait for a price drop....I ended up having some cash sitting around as Microsoft reward points and bought it and I regret not buying at launch. Beautiful world, characters that actually have some personality and some sick looking armor and weapons
@Dan Z Co-op and multiplayer are essentially the same thing but ok. I have a group of friends who like to sit down and play all the tales of games together if possible because it's kinda like watching an anime. It doesn't matter who is controlling the direction of the game because when given multiple options we just vote on it and settle any ties reasonably.
Or you know if you looked at the bottom right corner where all button inputs are always in the menu you could have seen that you can go up a level on the map interface to get a list of areas. That list of areas will show icons for fast travel points, sub quests and main quests.
Does anybody else always play games in this series on auto? I especially like the AI customizability in this game, plus I can still manually Dodge and block for the main character and get them perfect dodges I've been doing it that way since Tales of Symphonia, and I like to play the game as a strategy game where I'm mostly managing the entire team from the sidelines as coach and strategist
This was very unfortunate when I first heard it cuz me, lilbro and our friend would play together on Xillia and Xillia 2 and it was so fun playing with people xD But still enjoying the Arise game tho!
Demon Fang in my experiences is absolutely fucking busted. I've only just beaten Balseph though so who knows later but holy shit it was effective against him who was kicking my ass before then.

Does anyone know what Dohalim means when he says something is odd or be careful in an area? Is it just something he normally says? Because I'll be going through an area I already cleared and he says it and it stresses me out because I'm like DID I MISS SOMETHING DOHALIM? WHAT IS IT?? He's says it too for new areas which I'm like, Obviously Dohalim I'll be careful. Lol It's probably nothing but I'm just curious.
Hahaha yea im not sure is it because the enemies are high leveled like 1-3lvls up than you on that area? Idk 😭 cuz when my party was 40-41 then Dohalim warned about the area where i was going and when I went to battle the enemies were lvl 42-44

While I understand this stuff needs to explained for new players. For veterans of rpgs and especially the tales series this is all pretty common knowledge. No offense meant Hollow. Tales series just has a notable habbit of repeating certain aspects across its games. (I know others do it to but it was especially noticiable in the tales games for me when I started eith xillia and then played symphonia)

Which character are you going to be playing mostly? I tried the demo and the MC's attack style didn't really clock with me, so I tried Rinwell (I think that's her name, the mage) and she seemed pretty cool. The combat has changed quite a bit from Berseria. In Berseria you unlocked skills that you could assign to different button pressses in a combo allowing you to set up different combo strings instead of skills being locked to a single button and letting you make your own combos and blending them together basedon the situation. You could do a combo and each skill would be on a different button depending on which combo you're doing and how far down the combo you are. I'm not saying I don't like Arise's combat, but so far I prefer Berseria's.
As someone who's been playing tales games for over a decade, honestly berserias combat system was hard to get into. I like the fact that we are going back to having a basic attack button.

I like alphen's combat style but he does take some getting used to. I also like Law and Kisara as well. Tried the others but I've never been a fan of mages or long range fighters in general. I'm kinda like law when he says it's easier to get in close and beat an enemy fast instead of doing all that other stuff. Though to be fair once you set up the ai for your party members right you can do your thing and they're fine
@NuclearToxin many agree that Berseria's combat is better. I'm most disappointed with the loss of multiplayer here, but I'm satisfied so I won't complain. I like the simplicity of this over Berseria for sure. I couldn't consistently do 2nd or 3rd lvl mystic artes in Berseria for some reason, but I never fail this time around.
I don't remember there being a cosmetic limit in Xillia. You could place any cosmetic item (hat, dog face, flower, ...) on any body part of any character, scale and rotate it and you could come up with some hilarious characters for the cinematics. They limited that quite a lot in Berseria but can you still do it here ?
I’m level 23 and now know that I can switch characters….. do you have to keep switching every fight or is there a way to switch characters permanently. Also I’ve been completing every title one by one….is that no a good strategy??
I played this game for about 5 hrs straight and surprisingly really enjoying it, but i went to quit the game and for the life of me could not find the quit game button. I had to use end task could some one plz enlighten me as to where the quit game is in the menus. PS im on PC.

How do i remove outfits. I cant see my new armor i found cus the outfit wont come off. How do i remove it! This is the one thing pissin me off about the game
to be fair, she always warns you when there is a big monster nearby, even if that monster is the same level as you, so the warning should not always be followed
@@Sapphire_Jack there is a monster in the cave where you first meet a poisonous jellyfish looking monster. i get warned about an enemy being too difficult and when i fought it the mob was lvl 15 tough fight but easily doable with patience.
My man, I am party lvl 19 just entered the third area of the game, got about 8-9000 skill points on my team and I just can't bring myself to spend any of them. I heard that you can really mess up your build and that you can NOT reset skills so I am scared to spend any of it! Bet the moment I start spending them a new tree with powerful stats shows up. I think I'll wait until the end of the game and see what skills are available then before spending any points on anything.
@Robert Fierce don't be scared to spend them. The combat is smooth enough to let you get by without much serious customization. I mean you've already proven that by stacking so many points already. New skill trees mostly have variations of old trees anyway so don't stress yourself man just enjoy the game 👍🏾

Well I’m pretty sure the Steam Deck just uses Steam, so you should be able to play anything you own on steam. You should probably look into it, I’m not completely sure
i think if you buy at last the middle price it doesn't have any problem personally. Like if you buy the cheapest one it's probabley have some FPS drop like old ps4 or Xbox one.
If you love Jrpg for the story/characters, do NOT buy this game. For all its technical qualities, they skipped HEAVILY on the writing staff and the result is generic, predictable, flat, and borderline stupid at times. If you NEVER played a story-driven game (or you are at the beginning of your teens) you will enjoy this. If you have even a CRUMB of experience with storytelling in any format, this product will make you angry for all the wasted potential. Come on, it's a goddamn ROLEPLAYING GAME. Everyone like this so our fellow dahnans can see if your having trouble with bosses it’s probably because your UNDERPOWERED do not skip every battle you see maybe even but the Battle pack DLC $5 It comes with 5 level ups for all team members and some extra coins ingame!! Well worth it to get you started up if having a tough time!
It's the "break" mechanic, when you hit an enemy hard enough you'll micro stun them for as long as you keep a combo going. Super basic enemies stand around a decent amount like in most games, harder enemies are nearly never sitting still.
Don’t farm xp. Once your level is higher than the enemies you are fighting the xp you get is significantly reduced. Better to move forward and find new things to fight/progress the story.
I mean on hard you kinda have to, to be able to beat Ganabelt. I fought every mob in every area until then and used the accessory that halves his damage but being 7 levels under him, his indignation one shot my entire team so had to get some levels.
@@darknesswave100 what is not true. highest resolution highest frame rates etc is on xbox and pc. I'm referring to new generation Systems... yes, you will not have issues on the ps4. Because has a set performance for each system. Due to what the system can handle.... So basically you're a fan boy that can't grasp the fact that xbox and pc is literally the best place to play 99% of games.... not sorry that facts hurt.... I was pointing out this in the video due to the fact of Playstation bias through out game content creators they use alot of Playstation game play... when in fact it is better to be played some where else. Ufotable has always been great with animation. Between Demon Slayer, Tales of Arise, and Code Lyoko, they are effectively legends at this point

Targeting is L1 not R2.
can you do that for the characters on reserve as well?

The hidden owls where in pretty fucked up places IMO. And those give you pretty necessary artifacts if you want to new game +.

Which character are you going to be playing mostly? I tried the demo and the MC's attack style didn't really clock with me, so I tried Rinwell (I think that's her name, the mage) and she seemed pretty cool.
The combat has changed quite a bit from Berseria. In Berseria you unlocked skills that you could assign to different button pressses in a combo allowing you to set up different combo strings instead of skills being locked to a single button and letting you make your own combos and blending them together basedon the situation. You could do a combo and each skill would be on a different button depending on which combo you're doing and how far down the combo you are. I'm not saying I don't like Arise's combat, but so far I prefer Berseria's.
As someone who's been playing tales games for over a decade, honestly berserias combat system was hard to get into. I like the fact that we are going back to having a basic attack button.

I like alphen's combat style but he does take some getting used to. I also like Law and Kisara as well. Tried the others but I've never been a fan of mages or long range fighters in general. I'm kinda like law when he says it's easier to get in close and beat an enemy fast instead of doing all that other stuff. Though to be fair once you set up the ai for your party members right you can do your thing and they're fine
Found the MC to be a real monster when it comes to burst damage. Through Rim and Shion are great for big bosses.
@NuclearToxin many agree that Berseria's combat is better. I'm most disappointed with the loss of multiplayer here, but I'm satisfied so I won't complain. I like the simplicity of this over Berseria for sure. I couldn't consistently do 2nd or 3rd lvl mystic artes in Berseria for some reason, but I never fail this time around.
I don't remember there being a cosmetic limit in Xillia. You could place any cosmetic item (hat, dog face, flower, ...) on any body part of any character, scale and rotate it and you could come up with some hilarious characters for the cinematics. They limited that quite a lot in Berseria but can you still do it here ?

I’m level 23 and now know that I can switch characters….. do you have to keep switching every fight or is there a way to switch characters permanently. Also I’ve been completing every title one by one….is that no a good strategy??
I played this game for about 5 hrs straight and surprisingly really enjoying it, but i went to quit the game and for the life of me could not find the quit game button. I had to use end task could some one plz enlighten me as to where the quit game is in the menus. PS im on PC.

to be fair, she always warns you when there is a big monster nearby, even if that monster is the same level as you,
so the warning should not always be followed
@@Sapphire_Jack there is a monster in the cave where you first meet a poisonous jellyfish looking monster. i get warned about an enemy being too difficult and when i fought it the mob was lvl 15 tough fight but easily doable with patience.
I’m pissed off, I have a new set of armor I can’t see because it’s not an outfit. There’s no way to take an outfit off.
In Tales games, armor has never changed your appearance, only outfits have.
For some reason the L1/R1 in battle never switched characters for me mid-combat.
Hold L1 so youre in target select mode then hit the D pad direction of thr member you want to control

My man, I am party lvl 19 just entered the third area of the game, got about 8-9000 skill points on my team and I just can't bring myself to spend any of them.
I heard that you can really mess up your build and that you can NOT reset skills so I am scared to spend any of it!
Bet the moment I start spending them a new tree with powerful stats shows up. I think I'll wait until the end of the game and see what skills are available then before spending any points on anything.
@Robert Fierce don't be scared to spend them. The combat is smooth enough to let you get by without much serious customization. I mean you've already proven that by stacking so many points already. New skill trees mostly have variations of old trees anyway so don't stress yourself man just enjoy the game 👍🏾

Well I’m pretty sure the Steam Deck just uses Steam, so you should be able to play anything you own on steam. You should probably look into it, I’m not completely sure
i think if you buy at last the middle price it doesn't have any problem personally. Like if you buy the cheapest one it's probabley have some FPS drop like old ps4 or Xbox one.

For all its technical qualities, they skipped HEAVILY on the writing staff and the result is generic, predictable, flat, and borderline stupid at times.
If you NEVER played a story-driven game (or you are at the beginning of your teens) you will enjoy this. If you have even a CRUMB of experience with storytelling in any format, this product will make you angry for all the wasted potential.
Come on, it's a goddamn ROLEPLAYING GAME. Why did they fall so flat on the most important part? It's like opening a restaurant and spending 99% of your budget on ambiance then resorting to serving wet white bread. Just.... why?
Everyone like this so our fellow dahnans can see if your having trouble with bosses it’s probably because your UNDERPOWERED do not skip every battle you see maybe even but the Battle pack DLC $5 It comes with 5 level ups for all team members and some extra coins ingame!! Well worth it to get you started up if having a tough time!

Looks super easy. Looks like the enemies just stand around waiting for you to kill them.
It's the "break" mechanic, when you hit an enemy hard enough you'll micro stun them for as long as you keep a combo going.
Super basic enemies stand around a decent amount like in most games, harder enemies are nearly never sitting still.
Don’t farm xp. Once your level is higher than the enemies you are fighting the xp you get is significantly reduced. Better to move forward and find new things to fight/progress the story.
I mean on hard you kinda have to, to be able to beat Ganabelt. I fought every mob in every area until then and used the accessory that halves his damage but being 7 levels under him, his indignation one shot my entire team so had to get some levels.
