    WARNING: Do NOT use sand for their cage. When they eat their crickets (or food) They can pick up some of the sand and swallow it, This happened to a class pet we took over Christmas break, We realized he didn't act like our beaded dragon, he was slow, and weak, he didn't eat, Even though he was old we still knew something was not right. so we took him to the vet, and it turns out he ate to much sand and it clogged up his stomach, we gave him medicine and made him feel much better. Please don't make the same mistake this teacher did, This poor beardie was on his last leg.

      Im not so sure, Im sorry I could not answer this question. Just be careful of what you put in your beardies cage. Do research and maybe check with your pet store. :)

    • @kyle98452
      @kyle98452 6 лет назад +17

      sand actually isn’t awful, as long as you don’t feed your dragon on the sand they won’t get impacted, other substrates would be better but sand isn’t the worst. and i wouldn’t recommend walnut shells because they are very sharp, try using something like tile or paper towels that is not a loose substrate

    • @audreybcorinne
      @audreybcorinne 6 лет назад +3

      Sadly the bearded dragon I was talking about past away.. he was old and the first owner took horrible care of him... again.. I'm devastated.. please, PLEASE don't make this mistake!

    • @audreybcorinne
      @audreybcorinne 6 лет назад +3

      yes. but I was saying don't feed you bearded dragon with sand in their cage. you are partially right, you know how bearded dragon lick every once in a while, they can do that and get sand in the system. So I want to make sure people know that sand is not okay.

    For baby dragons, it's best to just get the tank they will need as an adult. They are just fine with a large tank (think of in nature, they have TONS of room). No reason to start with a small tank. Start with a 75gallon like they will need as an adult. Put the heatlight on one side of the tank so they have a hot spot and a cooler side. No reason to waste money on a tiny tank when you are going to need a big one. Buy what you need up front, so you know your dragon has a cage for life. Telling people to buy a small tank will mean lots of dragons will be purchased in small tanks because they are cheap, then, the owners won't have money to get the larger tank they need very soon in the future.

    • @dandroiddoes3531
      @dandroiddoes3531 7 лет назад +25

      Some people put some kind of border in the large tank so it's smaller but yeah is nature they have miles of terrain but good point

    • @aliciak8251
      @aliciak8251 7 лет назад +24

      If you get a large tank for a baby, you need to be careful when feeding them.
      Too much room means more crickets will be able to hide away, and if the crickets are in the tank unattended there is a risk that they will chew holes in the beardies skin

    • @earthling1984
      @earthling1984 7 лет назад +26

      Alicia Kincaid Really isn't an issue. The larger the cage the better. When putting in crickets just don't throw in too many at once. Mealworms, superworms, calciworms, etc. can be put in a plastic dish and they won't be able to escape. Best to get the proper large tank from the start.

    You missed one thing, bearded dragons have difficulties recognising standing water and often don’t drink. The best way is to probably provide them with a water spray or soak (not dripping soak) the food that they eat.

      @@maggiewiley7474 don’t spray them because it will raise the humidity in the enclosure and that can cause respiratory issues. they get most of their water from their food but when they’re soaking you can put some water on their noses and they’ll drink it from there if they’re thirsty.

    After almost 7 years my husband and i lost our bearded dragon due to a sudden onset of symptoms we wanted to share with others the warning signs that we saw prior to losing what we considered our son 😢. Our little guy ray never once puffed up or black bearded us he never ran or pulled away all he did was cuddle us and be so sweet trying his hardest not to scratch us or to bite us when hand feeding him and we never had any health issues with him except one bout of worms. Our little guy has always been a little on the chunky side but we were unaware that what we thought was fat (the vet thought it was fat prior to the xray) was actually fluid surrounding his body cavity and it caused his lungs to collapse suddenly the doctor thinks he might have a tumor as well and we had about 3-4 days notice before our little man passed 😢 please if your beardy suddenly stops eating and seems to have tummy problems (our guys side was twitching a couple days prior we didnt know why we though he had to poop) please take him to the vet and get an xray done unless you want to lose your friend and family member as we did ours. 😢 we love you ray so much we will never forget this guy he was better than any dog or cat ive ever owned.

    Ok guys sand is absolutely fine to use it obsorbs alot of the moisture decreasing the bacterial growth when they poop by a mesh scooper put it under poop lift up sand all falls back and poop remains super easy to maintain and clean and stays true to there natuaral habitat as always its up to you guys.

    How many times a day should I feed my dragon. Like how much protein each meal for a baby

    • @qikio2702
      @qikio2702 7 лет назад +3

      Ari Juljulian once a day until they seem done and add protein like every other day

    • @evanhicken6892
      @evanhicken6892 7 лет назад

      Ari Juljulian it depends on the size of your bearded dragon if it is a young beauty Dragon you should feed him/her smaller portions of food but if it's a larger dragon you should feed him/her larger portions of food a day.

    I thought that mealworms were really bad for these reptiles...

    • @lykosanubis
      @lykosanubis 7 лет назад +5

      HufflePuffHay
      They are.A mealworm body is mainly hard exoskeleton and they barely have any protein because of this- steer clear of mealworms unless you want to run the risk of choking and impaction.

    • @skystorm8200
      @skystorm8200 7 лет назад

      Lykos-Anubis Thought so :) Thanks

    • @saraparks4024
      @saraparks4024 7 лет назад +3

      That's not correct in order to give your beardie a balanced diet you should give them crickets or roaches everyday and those should make up most of their diet but about 10% of their diet should be worms and I recommend alternating 2 days of meal worms and 1day of super worms if your beardie is a baby and if your beardie is an adult then you can add in hornworms

    • @lykosanubis
      @lykosanubis 7 лет назад +4

      Sara Parks
      Sure, go ahead and give those babies mealworms- watch them die of impaction. 😂😂😂😂
      Guys, stay away from meal worms- super worms are good and wax worms are good, as are roaches and crickets. But meal worms are terrible for your beardies. Anyone who is either a good breeder OR has had many bearded dragons will know that. :)

    • @jordantate_
      @jordantate_ 7 лет назад +2

      It's a matter of opinion. Not the best option. If you're going to feed them mealworms, definitely wait until adult age

    You said no to a heat rock. I don't have have dragon but considering one. What about a nice size and shape rock with a heat pad under the rock. Use a temp control and glue it to the side of the rock with thermoconductive epoxy. That way you can heat the rock to exactly the temp you want. Something just enough to lay on to take the chill off. A decent size real rock will also be very consistent heat once it's finally up to temp.

      Heat mats are useless. They need a heat lamp.

    A 60 gallon tank is the bare minimum for bearded dragons, they thrive in larger tanks so if you can go to 75 gallons or better, 120

    I remember my grandma told me in Mexico she used to catch horned lizard‘s even when she wasn’t very wealthy and poor she still knew how to catch them she go to junkyards and get boxes and drawers to make cage she would put some dirt in there she catch bugs she found outside and she fed it fruit she would find from trees I kind of think that’s how I got my interest and love for reptiles

    Bearded dragons are so cute, but I won't get one until I'm living on my own. My parents would probably make me keep it in my room all day and wouldn't let me take care of it the way it should be taken care of. I'm researching now so in a few years I'll know exactly how to give my lil' beardie a life of luxury~ always felt like my parents didn't know how to properly take care of pets ^-^
