  • In this video, I show you how I go about transferring larger floral patterns when I have to do them twice or a left and a right side.
This is a very efficient way of accomplishing this task and allows for the most accurate copy of your tooling patterns.

Very helpful tip! I have used tapoffs for small items, but I am about to make a set of California style Tapaderos. I have attempted this before with large pieces and it did move a bit, so I had a rough time carving the second piece and was not really happy with the result. This tip will make it work much better.
I also notice some commenters are confused about whether to carve and bevel, DON'T BEVEL or do any tooling. You want clean, crisp swivel knife cuts ONLY. After transfer then you can bevel and tool in your normal style.

awesome video! so the way my world works at this point in my progress, If I screw up my first tooling then the other side will be still screwed up but match! I can live with that. ;)

I really like your videos because they help me with all the doubts I have and they are very good videos to learn or improve. I would like to know more about the names of each tool because I don't know what they are called, I only know that some of them are a Barry King brand and Weaver but I don't know what they are called🤜🤛👌👌👌

Awesome! So for the tap-off, do you just swivel cut it or also bevel etc?

Cut a piece of plywood the same shape, put the 2 pieces of leather together and wrap tape around in a few places!

Hi Don. I have a question after watching this video did you carve and bevel the whole pattern before tapping off?or did you only swivel carve it ?

I still don't understand how tap offs work. A cut on the tap off is a bump on the working piece. It seems that it would be hard to cut those lines on the working piece. Thanks, Don.
