I set out to learn panning on my own, I've been through around 100 pans. The land has minimal gold though, or at least the places I've checked, I've yet to find anything really, but I'm not giving up, I have 6 acres of riverfront southwest Virginia property. And it's relaxing, thanks Jeff, I like this method, helps me pan quicker.
+Chad Thomas you will find the amount you are looking for and it will happen when you least expect it. If you liked that vid maybe you will like this one too. ruclips.net/video/3CmfFx16JvM/видео.html
Just starting out and had initially watched some of your newer videos. Gathered a ton of dry material to go through, so had to go back to basics after missing some cut up lead I put in for a test. Your personality is infectious man, always a smile. Keep it up!
Again thanks for your time brother, can't afford school but don't need it with folks like you. Loved to work for you for free as long as you teach me everything ya know.
I have to say something. Your videos are just so cool! Everytime i watch it is just so entertaining. I love watching these videos! Keep up the good work Jeff. :)
hi .... so nice to see you at a more sedate state.....i understand that you have a you tube personnea as in running down or up those gullies .... but nice to see you in a more relaxed state...whatever ...you make really good vids ...informative and theatrical ...keep up the good work ....greetings from british columbia canada....i have a claim on the mighty fraser river ...thanks ... mickey miner
Thank you Jeff & Slim, I had one hard time getting the flower gold but thanks to you I am getting better at gathering it all up and here in Death Valley Ca, it is all over the yard so I don't even have to leave home to pan for gold for some time .
Hi Jeff I asked a question not long ago. you advised me to use quick dry. anyway I used biodegradable washing up liquid to break the surface tension of water. before adding the dish soap looking at the water a lot of shinny gold colored material was floating at the top and after adding the soap the water was clear as everything had sank. we are finding flour gold but to be honest the whole pan is shinny as in a lot of material left behind is very very shinny silver and gold color. Once we have stratified the material to very fine sands and not much in the pan. almost all of the material is shinning silver and gold. I think a lot of the stuff could be silver but all of this material we are seeing is tiny microscopic tiny. Some small chucks about 1mm look to be gold but once finger crushing turns out to be pyrite. How small can pyrite go. Will it go as small as flour gold.? Thanks.
Nice video as usual. I just wanted to share with people to make sure that your new plastic gold pan is properly conditioned before trying to find the gold. I see a lot of people using new plastic pans that are still coated with that release agent used to get it out of the mold. Looking forward to seeing the dry panning video, lots of dirt and little water here in southern Arizona.
I've been watching all your great videos for a while. I live in Michigan and the only gold in the lower peninsula is glacial drift. I found a gpaa park and thanks to your videos I found GOLD! Not much but that's not what it's about for me. Could not have done it without you sir, so thank you so much! I can get dirts on ebay but finding it in its "natural habitat ",lol, is so much better. now I'm a real prospector. Don't tell slim though, he might try n take it 😜
+Jason Willer wow that sounds great Jason, glad you got some color . We always like hearing those kind of stories. It is always our pleasure so thanks for saying that. Nothing like knowing that you can find the shiney and the thrill of going after it again in different places to test your knowledge . No worries on Slim, he is sleeping right now and never checks my e-mails. Jeff and Slim
Another great video! Question, I tried that tapping technique with a bit of black sand I have been saving and discovered 3 tiny specs of flour gold I had missed before. While trying to remove the last spec the water washed over the tiny spec and it floated on top of the water over the black sand to the center of the pan! I thought it must not be gold and rechecked it with the 10X loop but found it was indeed gold. Will adding a bit of dishwashing soap prevent this and if so how much? Thank much
Good morning jeff! :-) I'm new to this but I have been doing tons of research on every aspect of gold itself! I used a few drops of gun oil to break the surface tension of the water because I didn't have and jet dry. when I'm panning the material I keep seeing what looks like gold on the top. I shake the hell outta of it and some do fall mid way before bottom. when I start to pan I see alot of the flakes wash off into the water. I figured it was just pyrite so I didn't give it a second thought. I have worked 500 pounds of dirt to reveal nothing. So I stopped and took a step back to take a look at what and how I'm doing it, I put a magnet to the flakes but they don't stick. Is it because I'm using gun oil. plus I'm in a horrible state called New York. I see guys out west pulling in a few flakes of flower gold and complaining it's not enough. well take it from a guy who has found nothing, I'd love to see a flake of gold in my pan!! I'm just having a real hard time trying to figure out if I do have gold in my pan? any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated sir! Thank you so much for this awesome channel!! :-)
thank you jeff. I live in australia and you have made my my prospecting days :). you have showed me allot about gold mining and prospecting making most of what ive picked up along the way on my own so much more better with some of the things you have shared. love how you make it fun :) when asked about what i do and how to do it i revert them to you as your role play is cool and funny to watch. From australia im saying thanks bro :). IF YOU WANT THE GOLD YOU GOTTA EARN IT. Those old timers new how to work.
3 days ago was my first experience panning ever! I have an odd story to my gold adventure that just began. I bought 4 ounces of gold coins recently. That set me back about $8k. After looking at those beautiful coins I decided to see if I could find 1oz of gold on my own. I would also like to find silver but I will worry about that later. I also bought 250oz of silver. I have been worried about the dollar losing value so I somewhat protected now. Anyway, I have watched a whole bunch of your videos and love watching! I have a creek that runs through my land and I have decided to start my adventure there. I am not sure if gold has been found in this creek or not but it does run into another creek that does have gold. I live in western North Carolina so I know that this is a decent gold finding state. The first in flight and the first in gold panning! Thanks for the videos!
Love your videos and I think you are very entertaining... Keep it up don't tone it down, just don't get hurt running down those hills.... Question.... Why use glass vials which can be dropped and broken why not clear plastic vials instead?....
Yo Jeff great video brother ! My old man was into dry panning for gold out here in southern nevada & got a couple of hundred buck's out of it & was just happy doing something outdoors & profitable . My question is, how do we go about getting kid's ( inner city & country ) interested in not only this but outdoor living skills, camping, hiking, off the grid homesteading ? Keep up the good work & God bless you & yours !
kevin bell Thanks Kevin, good question. We like making vids on it then having meet and greets so they can get hands on experience with it. We have taken private families out with there children and they just love it as soon as the see that Gold in the Pan and I know they will go on to be future miners. So I think exposure to it first then see if they have an interest then keep it fun . They will want to do it more if it is fun. Then give them the skills and tools they need to get out there and find Gold, once they do and the fever sets in , then they think of nothing else. Jeff and Slim
I'm a Garrett pan fan,I've had both pans, except the pan you used in the video.I upgraded to the Trinity pan,but most of the time I use the Garrett 10" pan.I can pan faster with a smaller pan
theres a old Gold Mine out in the woods it has been closed for 50 years I was told im going to try and pan there up and down the creek id like to see how you dry pan also
Very nice video with clear explanations and tips. At 4:48 when you dump the rocks out do you check it first in case there is a big old nugget in there?
Where do you do most of your prospecting? I live about a mile from the Rogue River in Oregon, got a pan, sluice box, classifier so I have a good start but wont invest more money until I see some color!
Great technique video Jeff. Do you still "treat" your pan before using it for the first time? Meaning, rough up the surface of the pan to better catch the fines?
I have to admit it....I've become a Jeff fan..... These are the videos that help tenderfoot prospectors like me separate the useful from the bullshit. And the gold from the gravel, lol. Liked/subscribed
New to your channel and really enjoy your vids Jeff. It has given me great insight. I took up prospecting on the weekends after moving to CO this past summer. It's a relaxing hobby and quiet time from army life. Anyway thanks again for your vids. Just got my first bit of color recently.
Hey Jeff, Holcomb valley is such an amazing place and if you do come up here id be glad to show you all around since I was born and raised here I know these mountains like the back of my hand. Thanks again for the amazing video's Jeff. Hope to see ya soon! -Prairie
What if GOLD you have is as tiny as the black sand and you need a loop too see it??. How do you separate it all??!! I have tried my best and still have too much black sand and other small shit now in my snuffer bottle I don't know how not to loose it with getting it all seperated its micro little grains..
Hey Jeff I have a question of treating a gold pan. I just received my super sluice gold pan 15" and I don't know how to go about treating it. Could you give some instructions on ways to treat a pan? Thanks!
Jeff, how do I find an area to legally pan for gold. It seems all the gold bearing areas in SoCal are claimed up. I read in all the books on gold mining and gold bearing areas in my area but it's all claimed up I'm told. Is there any way to prospect without trespassing on someone else's claim? Thanks
hey jeff i am going to palm springs CA its a desert, do you think i can dry pan there and find gold? It will be my first time ever gold panning. thanks!
hey jeff always watch this to help me get back in panning i bought new an tougher pan its really good but no videos yet how it works its called Gold Saver Pan
Hi Jeff! :) Never mind Norway!....i'm from Australia and just watched your panning technique/s. I'm so much a Noob to this, but after having watched your video, i pan very much the same way! lol. Yup, got a couple of nice flakes!!! (i'm happy!).... Now...although these little pieces were like YELLOW!! they are like LEAD!... Now....tweezers would'nt pick 'em up (too small?), just backing off the water and dabbing my finger on it i managed to pick it up :) Then i used the tweezer to pick it of my finger and tranfer it to my glass vial. ...now, here is a thought....glass vials VS Plastik! What would happen if i accidently dropped my glass vial???? Ohhhhh Noooooooo! haha.... i reckon plastik vial maybe better option! Cheers Mate! Thanx for informative video
Are there places that would process it for me or If I dry it can I process it myself? I tried the jet dry but its so fine almost like glitter that its near impossible. Trish
is it possible i can seprate gravel into small pieces with classifier, collect a bucket than add water than shake it well, and get rid of the top. would i get the gold in the bottom? i live in las vegas there is a flash flood dry river, i took samples with that pan, but the gold particles where super fine, i had to use magnifier. So to pan one after another wouldn't it me much better to fill up a bucket and shake it and get the concentrate from bottom?
Thanks Jeff showed me a lot just brought a pan Having a play that little bottle u sucked gold up with do u have water in it and when u suck it up and put it in a little contain do u just drain water out first then tip it thanks mate
Hey Jeff, you said you would do a dry panning video while making this. Did you ever make that video, or did I just miss it when I searched you page? thanks. good videos!
I have an estwing pan..trouble for me is separating all the tiny pieces from the sand..And the dirt I have contains platinum. I feel like Im losing stuff, so I never through anything away lol :/ Any advise? I was sent a small magnet inside a glass vial...when do I use this?? Sorry..just learning!
+Beverly Oliver no worries my friend. The magnet is for pulling up the black sand to make separation easier and to get the black sand off just turn the vial up side down to release the black sand, There is also the tapping method too but we will cover that in the next video. Jeff and Slim
The bigger rocks have a larger surface area! It's based on density if you have a mineral that is less dense than another but much larger it will always be on the top when panning!
Hey Jeff, I've been looking for the video you made that demonstrates how you setup your panning station in the desert. It seems really efficient and I like the idea of reusing the water. Could you please post that link? Thanks.
Hello Jeff. I have a question about the Garrett Gold Trap vs. Super Sluice pans. From what I can see the Super Sluice has deeper riffles. I ordered the Gold Trap by accident and was wondering if I should return it for the Super Sluice? BTW I really enjoyed your stream model video. Though I really enjoy your drift mine videos wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to drill and blast down to the red clay bearing gravel with an open pit mine?
I was wondering if you could tell me what to look for oddly I am loosing everything I own long story, so I decided to go gold panning in the black hills in south Dakota between pactola and Sheridan lake,i found a lot iron and gold pyrite but no gold it might seem odd to get a question like this but I'm loosing everything by garnishments and not by my own fault , but I'm trying every way to find money and I work a hundred and six hours every two weeks so I cant get another job, so can you give me some hard facts what to look for??? sorry for the mushy story..Robert bloom of rapid city S.D by the way I really like your videos...
Hey there Jeff I'm a big fan I'm a prospector myself and I recently just came across and area laden with a waterfall (only recently can you get in there due to the dams they just built that halted all the waterfalls they used to be rushing but now only drizzle) the place has very large pieces of pyrite 1-3 inch pieces and you can see the quartz veins that the waterfall dug into my question is I haven't found any gold could it be that the gold is still stuck in the rocks being so recently washed off? Cause I ain't seein nothin in my pans or would it be that I'm not getting the right spots? I know the area has gold there are 3 mines nearby. My pans are always just filled with pyrite at the bottom 20-30 pyrite nuggets/ pan any tips?
+jordan margera Hi Jordan, thanks , really appreciate that and glad to hear it. Not knowing the area I would check the bottom of the waterfall to see if there are any large rocks stuck in there, then I would try to sample underneath them , the Gold will be trapped there as the water creates a boiling effect around the boulders. Then I would metal detect with something like a Gold Bug 2. Jeff and Slim
hey jeff your videos are so useful, im a new panner, there is a small creek on my property that is almost all bedrock, ive panned a few times and found a lot of black sand and tiny flakes of gold. what equipment would you suggest to get gold out of bedrock? im going to try to make a nugget sucker, the one on amazon is expensive and I don't make a lot. im in Oregon btw
superscaryeti there are a few ways of doing it but if the water level is below the Bedrock then small crevicing tools. small wisk brooms and an electric vac pac.If under the water the PVC sucker tubes, Hydro force suction equipment, High banker / Dredge combo. Jeff and Slim
***** oops , forgot about the last part that you wrote. You can make suction tubes for next to nothing and even make a good trap with hose. Jeff and Slim
Hiya Jeff! Second or third video of yours I have run across. They say it ain't rocket science. Ha! I have yet to find that first fleckle but I'm still working on it. Slowly working my way to the good places in NE Alabama where the original gold rush happened before it all moved west. I'm lucky. It's only 20 miles from here. By the time I get there, thanks to your instruction mebbe I also will be a gold man! Norm
The Alabama gold rush was the third! The first significant gold rush in the United States was in Cabarrus County, North Carolina (east of Charlotte), in 1799 at today's Reed's Gold Mine. Thirty years later, in 1829, the Georgia Gold Rush in the southern Appalachians occurred that later spurred on the Alabama rush in the 1840s.
Gold is heavier than the other material in the pan so it's supposed to stay in the bottom of the pan. But, I see that large rocks are on the top getting washed out along with smaller material. Point being... those larger rocks have to be heavier than the little peices of gold and therefore you may be washing out some of the gold. How am I wrong regarding this theory
I don't know if anyone asked you this before, but can you use a plastic basin where you wash clothes in to pan gold ? Gold pans and sluice boxes are hard to find for sale.
***** And if you put in the pan a tiny peace of metal for example (like copper wire shorter than a millimiter) , after panning should you find that tiny peace at the bottom? (like very close to the tiny gold nuggets). And if you don't find that tiny peace at the bottom does it mean you didn't pan properly?
Jeff thanks for the videos. I'm from southern Utah and was wondering if you have ever panned for gold at gold springs on the Utah Nevada border? If so is was it worth while? Or is there a better place in southern Utah you would recommend?
Sorry with my quastions, but was curious if anyone tried to make a metal frame like attaching metal rods togheter and hang a bucket of soil from it suspended in the air. Wouldn't it be much easier to shake it without lifting it up. And would a vibrating motor atached to the bucket cause the gold to settle in the bottom? So while it's vibrating a person can get more dirt get rid of the soil in the top and add more soil in the bucket.
quantum vortex You use a Gold pan to tell you where to set up your sluice box. The Sluice will handle more material the a pan but the pan will tell you where to get the dirt from to put in your sluice. Also a pan is for the final clean up of a sluice. Jeff and Slim
MMA WOZ but of course my friend. The closest would be Lynx creek. It is open to Panners but no motorized equipment. The trick is to walk up the side tributaries that feed the creek and look for exposed bedrock or rough looking schist or slate. Dig the dirt out in these cracks and pan that if you can find water. You should get some color every time. Jeff and Slim

Hi Jeff Williams,
Thanks for taking the time and effort to post the "How to Pan" Video. I think it was great.

G'day from Australia, that's how we do it, but usually use a sluce before hand, some areas in Australia you can't use a dredge .
Very helpful just got my first pan and thanks to this technique I have started to compete
you betcha

Hello Jeff, I'll make a vidéo on how to use Gold pan for French people because nobody did already. Thank's to you for this one.
Bye Chris.
ChrisDetek 34 that sounds like a good idea Chris, wish I spoke French so I could do one for you.

I have watched your other videos and observed some of your technic and am glab to see this video on panning. Thanks
theres a old Gold Mine out in the woods it has been closed for 50 years I was told im going to try and pan there up and down the creek id like to see how you dry pan also
An oldie, but a goodie! I live in West Virginia…not much gold! Yes, I have the Garrett supersluice! I enjoy your videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
When in Lynx creek, Prescott AZ, where should I start to pan for gold? Should I turn rocks over in the creek?
Very nice video with clear explanations and tips. At 4:48 when you dump the rocks out do you check it first in case there is a big old nugget in there?
hey Jeff this video was a lot more toned down like it alot
Awesome cant wait to see how well you do with small material
Where do you do most of your prospecting? I live about a mile from the Rogue River in Oregon, got a pan, sluice box, classifier so I have a good start but wont invest more money until I see some color!

Never mind Norway!....i'm from Australia and just watched your panning technique/s.
I'm so much a Noob to this, but after having watched your video, i pan very much the same way! lol. Yup, got a couple of nice flakes!!! (i'm happy!)....
Now...although these little pieces were like YELLOW!! they are like LEAD!...
Now....tweezers would'nt pick 'em up (too small?), just backing off the water and dabbing my finger on it i managed to pick it up :)
Then i used the tweezer to pick it of my finger and tranfer it to my glass vial.
...now, here is a thought....glass vials VS Plastik!
What would happen if i accidently dropped my glass vial???? Ohhhhh Noooooooo! haha....
i reckon plastik vial maybe better option!
Cheers Mate!
Thanx for informative video
How are you not losing potential small nuggets ??? Good luck dude 👍
Are there places that would process it for me or If I dry it can I process it myself? I tried the jet dry but its so fine almost like glitter that its near impossible.
Trish
going to be travelling through navada to arizona and hopeing you can give me advise on areas to check out.
thanks jeff. take care
+ron lewis let us know when you are there and we will give you a few tips on where to go.
Jeff and Slim
Jeff, I enjoy the videos very much! Thank you for sharing!
alien4fish our pleasure and thanks for watching and commenting.
Jeff and Slim
we love your video's ~ waiting for our gold pan now !
is it possible i can seprate gravel into small pieces with classifier, collect a bucket than add water than shake it well, and get rid of the top. would i get the gold in the bottom? i live in las vegas there is a flash flood dry river, i took samples with that pan, but the gold particles where super fine, i had to use magnifier. So to pan one after another wouldn't it me much better to fill up a bucket and shake it and get the concentrate from bottom?
+Vahagn melikyan yes that would be a very good way to get the stratified material.
Jeff and Slim
Thanks Jeff showed me a lot just brought a pan Having a play that little bottle u sucked gold up with do u have water in it and when u suck it up and put it in a little contain do u just drain water out first then tip it thanks mate
Hey Jeff, you said you would do a dry panning video while making this. Did you ever make that video, or did I just miss it when I searched you page? thanks. good videos!
What size mesh classifier do you suggest I should buy to get fine material.
Josiah Aston 1/4 inch or a number 4 at least.
Jeff and Slim
are there any shaking tables that work at 12V power source?
+Vahagn melikyan we have seen a few mini models but very small units.
Jeff and Slim
Is there a trick to panning out lead bird shot? I have mountains of it in my cons.
we use the bump and tap method to get rid of them
Where can I find the pan you have?
Works for me thanks again Jeff.
Jeff and Slim
im thinking about trying this good video helps me out seeing how you do it ill order a pan thank you
The bigger rocks have a larger surface area! It's based on density if you have a mineral that is less dense than another but much larger it will always be on the top when panning!
Hey Jeff,
I live in Nebraska. Is there anywhere I can go to pan for gold in Nebraska?
Hey Jeff, I've been looking for the video you made that demonstrates how you setup your panning station in the desert. It seems really efficient and I like the idea of reusing the water. Could you please post that link? Thanks.
sure here it is. Jeffruclips.net/video/-xR0an9dJ6s/видео.html
Hello Jeff. I have a question about the Garrett Gold Trap vs. Super Sluice pans. From what I can see the Super Sluice has deeper riffles. I ordered the Gold Trap by accident and was wondering if I should return it for the Super Sluice? BTW I really enjoyed your stream model video. Though I really enjoy your drift mine videos wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to drill and blast down to the red clay bearing gravel with an open pit mine?
we love the Super Sluice so would get that one and an open pit is harder to hide huh
Do they sell the pans online i mean
Well done ,enjoy all your vids
Steven Johnson Thanks for the comments and for watching all our vids. We do have more on the way so stay tuned.
I love that Steel Guitar, what is the name of that song. Thanks for the great Video and advise.
4:47 Why did you just dump all that stuff out of the classifier without even looking at it? What if there was a big nugget in there?
No worries, I follow Jeff Around and pick up all the gold he slops around and split it with Slim , so shhh mums the word :-)
And if your pan is to small for your classifier what do you do?
get a bigger pan....
love your videos Jeff! you make them fun!!
+Aaron Grant Thanks Aaron.
Jeff and Slim
Hey Jeff ever pan on clear creek in Redding California 🤔
Hey Jeff, do you always use the super sluice? Is it better then a standard 14" pan? And have you ever used any other pan? Give me some feedback please
yep ...yep.....yep almost all of them out there
Good clear explanation! Thanks for sharing Jeff. I just subscribed! Good hunting..... Ax
you betcha
Crazy man! I love the videos! Keep it up!
Great video. Very informative.
Thanks Johnathon glad you liked it. Jeff
Thanks for sharing Helped us out mate
you betcha Mate.
thank you, Professor Jeff
Great videos Jeff, Keep them coming...
hey jeff your videos are so useful,
im a new panner, there is a small creek on my property that is almost all bedrock, ive panned a few times and found a lot of black sand and tiny flakes of gold.
what equipment would you suggest to get gold out of bedrock?
im going to try to make a nugget sucker, the one on amazon is expensive and I don't make a lot. im in Oregon btw
superscaryeti there are a few ways of doing it but if the water level is below the Bedrock then small crevicing tools. small wisk brooms and an electric vac pac.If under the water the PVC sucker tubes, Hydro force suction equipment, High banker / Dredge combo.
Jeff and Slim
***** oops , forgot about the last part that you wrote. You can make suction tubes for next to nothing and even make a good trap with hose.
Jeff and Slim
***** thanks for the advice! Il start getting a suction hose going until I can get a dredge, sluice and vac pack.
***** does any river have gold looking to start panning in Pacific northwest.
Norm
Hi Norm it is our pleasure and keep up your search I know you will find Gold and it will be on a day that you least expect, guaranteed. Jeff
Gold pans and sluice boxes are hard to find for sale.
websitr3 you can use anything that has an edge in it .
Jeff and Slim
***** And if you put in the pan a tiny peace of metal for example (like copper wire shorter than a millimiter) , after panning should you find that tiny peace at the bottom? (like very close to the tiny gold nuggets). And if you don't find that tiny peace at the bottom does it mean you didn't pan properly?
Jeff thanks for the videos. I'm from southern Utah and was wondering if you have ever panned for gold at gold springs on the Utah Nevada border? If so is was it worth while? Or is there a better place in southern Utah you would recommend?
+Ty E we have been there and hard rocked mined but never panned.
Jeff and Slim
You make it look so easy Jeff...didnt work out so good for me over the weekend XD need more practice
keep at it and I know you will find it.
JS
How do I search for a subject in your videos?
GaryBNevada by Playlists.
Jeff and Slim
Seru klo tanya Jeff hanya nonton besok jawabannya dengan konten baru😀
When are you putting your next video
i am geting lot little rock/ what should i do
how can i get rid of clay without water? It took me 2 gallon just to pan one little panning container.
+Vahagn melikyan dry it out and crush it .
Jeff and Slim
+Ask Jeff Williams after it drys it should separate easily like pulling up dry lake material.
Awesome, U da man Jeff
What is better? Panning for gold or using a sluice box?? Somebody answer that has experience using both
quantum vortex You use a Gold pan to tell you where to set up your sluice box. The Sluice will handle more material the a pan but the pan will tell you where to get the dirt from to put in your sluice. Also a pan is for the final clean up of a sluice.
Jeff and Slim
Ok thanks
Hey Jeff, I will be a first time paner, I live in AZ and I'm planning on going up to Prescott. Any good areas to try up in Prescott?
Thanx!
