    I think he's so so so practised that he's free on the piano, he doesn't need to think about it, he's bored so he can express himself...it's quite a genius I must admit, thought he was overhyped before this but now I know why he's famous. Lots of talent and lots of practice. He plays the piano so easily like one breathes.

    I agree with you. Lang Lang really enters into the spirit of this music and brings out its humour and fun in a truly engaging way - very refreshing in an arena that can often take itself too seriously.

    Although his facial expression is funny, I appreciate at Lang Lang's technique and his musical expression! Music is not only for entertainment, but for spiritual enjoyment! Everyone has the right to comment on Lang's facial expression, however, at the same time, if you do love music, you should pay more attention on the real techniques of him.

      Technique is not anything to the love of music.. if music is measured by technique.. then there is a something called MIDI can play anything at marvelous speed with no mistakes and musicality that the editor put

    If some of you people don't like Lang Lang then DON'T THE VIDEOS OF HIM. Some people are just flat out JEALOUS when it comes to Lang Lang because they know he is one of the best. Again he has earned the right to look however he wants, he has earned it. Some of you people need to read one of his detailed Bios sometime and see just how rough it was for him in his youth days. He had to work VERY hard to become the amazing pianist he is today. Show some respect.

    Though it has been awhile since I last heard Lang Lang, I still remember being moved by this performance in my teen years. Now that I've graduated from a conservatory and that I've played this piece, I understood how Lang Lang knows how to work the crowd in a world where classical music is still to be introduced through the Internet. Yes, there's sloppy spots and perhaps too impulsive musicality but this draw me and hundreds of "non-musically-educated" people closer to music. His enjoyment and extra musical gestures seem to tick of some people and that's allowed. All I know is that his generous musicianship moved me. Besides, this was a performance almost a decade ago! He's gone through a lot of change and this is just one of his many perfect or imperfect concerts and he needs it in his process.

      Stop trying to justify the butchering of this piece. It is clear his technical ability is not enough for this piece. His rubato makes no sense. His tempo is off the charts. He has a plethora of errors and his dynamics are poor!

    Lang Lang offers a love of music which is evident in his playing. He is inventive and relaxed. His enjoyment of the music that somehow comes out of him is infectious. His presentation inspires many to want to play music for the shear enjoyment of playing.

    For those of you who think he's "acting" or that his expressions are "fake", you must not've ever experienced music the way he, and many other professional musicians, do. When a true pianist touches the piano, its like they forget their surroundings and know only music. They feel the music they play. That's what sets them apart from regular musicians. Search other pianists and you'll also find that, when playing, they are FULLY engrossed in their music.

I believe Lang Lang is just going through a youthful and exuberant stage in his life--it's nice to see someone embrace this old world style of playing.

    Musicality or musicianship can be plain or very complex depending on how you want to define it. To me, if majority of the people like the music, it must be pretty good musicality, that's how the world works, plain and simple. On the other hand, if you have a pre-conceived idea of what music MUST sound to be of good musicality, you make things complex for yourself, and you run the risk of being a LONELY PERSON. Acceptance by the populace is vital for a professional pianist, Lang Lang knows it!

  • @mocev
    @mocev 15 лет назад

    I'd have to agree with Poojoj... (who despite a considered and thoughtful post has been thumbed-down by the fanboys..)
    There is no doubt that Lang Lang has introduced classical music to an audience who might not have otherwise gotten into it - and for that he should be applauded.
    The fact remains, he simply doesn't compare with the 'greats'.

    There's a real question with pieces like this as to how much musical value a pianist can bring to them. Lang Lang's version is probably a little more fun to listen to precisely because he doesn't treat it like it's Beethoven. Kissin's is a much more musical account, but not quite as exciting.

There are countless fantastis players, and admittedly Lang Lang is one of them, but there is no "best pianist in the world"! No matter how hard one strives and how much one achieves, there will ALWAYS be somebody somewhere who does even more.

    But the difference is when Horowitz played, he kept his goddamn head still, shoulders down, relaxed, and played.
    He's very musical, but he's so into his own showmanship, that the facial expressions become louder than his nuance. And that's where he suffers the most, nuance, subtlety... every dynamic shift is very soft to very loud, every time shift is drastic , and there is so little in between. If he stopped SHOWING us how good a musician he is, and PLAYED his music, he might finally grow
