- Compilation of renowned classical pianist Lang Lang's funniest moments from his countless number of performances. This video could very well be an hour long, as Lang Lang is an expert in showmanship, but I chose what I thought were the best moments to show, except for him playing Rach 3's Ossia Cadenza (this is THE pinnacle of his showmanship and it deserves a video of its own, which already exists: • Lang Lang Plays Rach 3... ).
Disclaimer: I do have massive respect for Lang Lang, and this is meant as a joke not to be taken seriously.

I don't even think this is deliberate showmanship, I think Lang Lang when he plays gets into a mood, a trance or another dimension where it transcends and excels his playing. He once said he literally sees colors and visions when he is playing.

Lang Lang never fails to put a smile on my face. Be it a solemn or joyous piece. His love for the piano, the music is infectious.
Well, I loved it, I have watched every one of those moments, when Lang plays, it’s just him,he isn’t putting it on, he genuinely”feels” the moment,
I have similar moments when playing where I notice myself moving and making certain facial expressions in response to mood/character shifts, colours, harmonic changes etc. I don’t think he puts it on, but I think he exaggerates it a lot though.

Disappointed there weren’t any clips of his La Campanella performance, so many great moments there lol

many pianists hate the way he plays the piano, but they cant deny he's probably got a higher paycheck than them by marketing his expressions. and to be honest its actually nicer hearing piano and seeing some expressions rather than just playing the piano stoicly. also there are not rules to the way you want to express yourself when playing the piano...

Don't be funny a that legend
Let’s finish it once and forever. You all haven’t played emotional pieces and put 101% of yourself into a piece. It’s magical and it really puts you in a trance. Every direction you look impacts your musicality different. Your mood depends on the piece. It really unexplainable by words. Music speaks for itself by not you moving your body, but the music moving it. Hope you all understand now. Why I think Lang Lang is the best is because he creates a different atmosphere for every single piece he plays. He tells a story from the composers time it feels like. It’s actually unexplainable. All of the other pianists feel always on the same atmosphere and line. It doesn’t keep you in a trance tbh. All of the people who haven’t went deep into his playing have picked only the strange interpretations, which are way less than any other pianist actually. If you listen to his music more, you will find 99% of it more deep and touched than any other pianist. Lang Lang is exactly the same distance from Debussy as he is from Bach. That’s what makes him the best. He can do it all. Unmatched.

Is he a pianist? Or a showmen? Listen to Rubinstein, he plays like a God without all this OVER mimicing cloun.
Lang lang believes, as do all pianists that the music is emotional, and in order to have the greatest musicality, you must embody that emotion in yourself. He just happens to be a bit more physical in his portrayal than most pianists are.
With all due respect to the great Rubinstein but Lang Lang is on a completely different level of pianistic interpretation and skills.

The fact that there are better pianists does not invalidate his talent. I respect your opinion, but I would like to note that Horowitz is one of the greatest of all time. If you compare everything to Horowitz or Hofmann, almost everybody looks terrible. Also, I suggest that you listen to his Beethoven "Appassionata" Movement III in full.
and I would argue his technique is horrible as well ... which makes him less than a show man.

@@paulzeng6211 Again, Richter makes almost everybody look like that. However, in this case, I like Lang Lang's performance the best. I guess that it's a question of personal taste.
