Being a Mainer, you made a lobster salad roll, which the tourist mainly get or think our rolls actually are like. For us, it is just lobster in butter on a buttered roll, with extra melted butter on the side, that's it. I will say both look good overall. I personally use a higher quality butter when I make my rolls since that is the second most important ingredient.

Where would you look gor "good quality precooked lobster meat?" Grocery store seafood department? The stuff there, if you can find it, tends to be rubbery. ☹️ The prefrozen lobster tails found there also disappoint me after roasting or boiling and harvesting the meat. My local seafood place doesn't usually have live lobsters or lobster products; just fresh, oysters, and shrimp. Just wondering if anyone has a link or a tip showing how to better locate this important ingredient.

As a lifelong, 67 years, native coastal Mainer, a Maine lobster roll is a toasted generic hot dog roll with lobster meat in it and butter poured on top, that's it. Most people I know will have a lobster feed which consists of 2, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pound lobsters and butter. There are no salads or other condiments in site, just rolls of paper towels. Mainers who are not living close to the coast will dress a roll up like you did. There is a roadside stand close to me that has been serving lobster rolls for a few decades to people who are willing to wait in line for an hour or more. I laugh when I drive by and see 30or more people standing in the rain waiting for a sandwich. The way that outfit sell lobster rolls is the real way to make a lobster roll. A generic hot dog roll toasted, 1 pound of lobster meat in/on the roll and melted real butter poured over the meat. People pay big bucks for it too. For the record, I don't like lobster.
I love my lobster in butter, so I guess it would be "Maine style"? The other way seems more like a tarter sauce. I use that on some of my seafood, but it seems like it would defeat the lobsters flavor to me. I like to taste my "meats"! You should do a lobster bisque sometime.
