What do you mean things will be really small and hard to see? This won’t look similar to an iMac 4K or 5K display? I know it won’t be quite as good as true 5K, but what is this talk about things being too small and having to cut the resolution in half? Really wish you would explain more
I think this resolution is the next thing in media. It's actually an extender 4K resolution. The most important factor is the high, which is 2160. The aspect ratio is 2.37:1, which is somewhere between Panavision (2.35:1) and Anamorphic (2.39:1)
Came up with LG 4k monitor and got some issues, sold that monitor after couple months. I think the issues came from monitor instead of Apple. I am currently happy with Dell UltraSharp 4k monitor. p/s: I am using MacBook Pro 15" 2017
Beware: I have this monitor and a Macbook Pro with the Vega20 and unfortunately there is a compatibility issue. When connected through Thunderbolt3 Cable, the system becomes sluggish and stutters every 2 seconds. I am in contact with Apple since over a month and until today, they have not come up with a solution.
Thanks for posting that info. I just bought a Macbook Pro with Vega20 graphics and was considering this display. I thought the 560x was the only one with connection issues. Disappointing that Apple can't make a fully specced Macbook connect to something as simple as a monitor!
The Mac Mini says it supports a maximum resolution of 5120x2880 at 60Hz, according to Apple. So why are you saying it’s not capable of running this at full res?
Just got this monitor and hooked up my 2019 MBP 13" and the clarity sucks. It's not sharp at all, tried using the thunderbolt 3 cable as well as an HDMI and no luck.
This is an intriguing development, thanks for pointing it out. How well does your Mac Mini perform in editing video with this monitor, considering that the Mac Mini lacks a GPU? Thank you.
Does anyone have burn-in issues with this monitor? I find after a few hours of use, high contrast area of would get burn-in. Seems to go away overnight but it's annoying as hell if you want to watch a movie at the end of a long work day especially if the movie is on the darker side.

@@JunshuLiu it seems apple finally will release a new monitor, many expect $1200 but reports say $2K, the problem is I bet apple will never release a 34 Wide Monitor, I like wide monitors but I want better quality on.
@@JohnSmith-zl8rz I saw the rumor as well and I’m quite excited about Apple’s new cheaper XDR monitor. What picture profile is best for editing hdr video ? I’m trying to grade hlg video on a rec2020 timeline but don’t know what profile is the best for this in the osd. Someone please help
No, I did. The full review on AI is about to be published which has more details. But in short, Mac mini can’t do native resolution but MacBook Pro can. Problem is screen assets are so small it makes it unusable. Pixel doubling is preferred here.
I don't see the point in having a 5k monitor for which there is practically no content available. Besides that, I like LG monitors but hate the styling and functionality of the u shaped stand. Why make a stand that is less stable and takes up more desk real estate?
As someone with a 5K display I can easily answer that. - Because there's plenty of content. Sure, video isn't produced for 5K, but all apps and macOS can scale to any resolution really. It allows you full integer scaling of 2560x1440@2x. Photographers also often have images of higher resolution than 5k, and the higher the resolution of the display you can edit on, the better. For video editing you get the benefit of a full quality 4k preview with editing tools still available without going back and forth from full screen mode. Text is incredibly sharp, and anything that uses scalable geometry can natively run at 5K, assuming your GPU can handle it. I really don't think there's a lack of content or uses. My biggest issue is GPU power to drive it. It works well for photo, somewhat well for video and brillantly for programming with sharp text, but 3D geometry in 5K is still futuristic.
You say that as if a 4k tv is somehow better? This is a monitor designed for professional use, with professional grade features such as 5k and incredible color accuracy. And as such it is priced like other professional grade equipment, very expensive.

Try a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. That should do the trick, but you probably won't be able to get true 5K, no matter what you try.
