That last example mixing up the different harmony types, i got chills when the octaves came in. Can't wait to try it out! Even without the harmonization man, Dopamine is a masterpiece. A standout track on a stellar album!

It would be great to do an example where the harmonies have to fit the chords. As it is, there are a bunch of non-chord tones, which sound cool, too, but we're kind of missing here considering chord changes... Suspensions, resolutions, etc. Maybe a more advanced part 2 video?

Hey Bernth! Firstly, very nice lesson as usual. Secondly, i listened to your album on Spotify a few weeks ago, and bought it instantly after. Since you always say you love shredding i was expecting it to be a bit overplayed, but it was surprisingly tasteful! I have to ask if Jason Becker was an influence to you, because i got clear vibes from his first album Perpetual Burn, just darker. To me your style is a mix between him and John Petrucci, and i mean it as a compliment haha btw very nice job on not just the guitars but the drums as well, very glad you didn't go full double kick like a lot of metal songs do... I've received my physical copy yesterday and it's been on repeat since! Especially When it Rains, it Pours. Brilliant! And shout out to Daniel Fellner, because the mixing is top tier! Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you for another AWESOME lesson Bernth. The Pateron material and lessons you provide is some of the best I've ever seen, and has expanded my playing. I am in my 50's and have been in a rut for some time. After I joined your Pateron a few months ago and started practicing your lessons and techniques, I see a tremendous amount of progress in my playing abilities and music theory. You have changed the way I approach practicing, playing and writing music. Your lessons can be applied to any genre of music. Thank you.

Protip: if you identify a scale your solo is in (let's say X dorian), go to X+3-halftones lydian and play the lines analogically in a lydian position. Bored? Switch to X+7-halftones aeolian for the fifths sound. It's easier to think of harmony lines as a shift within the heptatonic scale instead of going up the scale individually - all you need is to learn the modes of a heptatonic scale and identify them with numerals (1 - aeolian, 2 - locrian, 3 - ionian, 4 - dorian, 5 - phrygian, 6 - lydian, 7 - mixolydian). The numerals will tell you what kind of an interval you're shifting the harmony by.
Sorry if this is obvious or, quite the opposite, too complicated, but I'm just really hyped to have found it out myself 😄

Hey Bernth, could you do a video on fast tremolo picking on a single note? Is it different when playing on lower strings and higher ones? Should we use only wrist motion for consistency or should we add arm movement and finger joints too? I've watched a lot of videos about this, some say just use wrist, some say just play as fast as you can, then clean it up later. Most of them just explain the technique and don't even show the playing fast part lol I just wanna play some gojira 😅

On a melody harmony you must choose one of the intervals or you are allowed to mix them? For instance, can you harmonise part of the melody in thirds, part inf fifths and part is sixths or you must harmonise the whole melody on the same interval?

I'm bypassing this now by quickly taking notes/questions while visioning a video the first time, and if there are still unanswered questions I can ask them after he end of the lesson. I forget my questions quickly, hence the writing down part.

I Missed harnonizing by 7th!! Those are so cool when you would like give a better sense of turn-around in the last chord of your progression… even you can experiment aug7. Aditionally, I would add a way that is more jazzy/prog, it is to use the scale-chord relation (key center change), in the chords of your progression. It will makes it harmonically more ineteresting, IE. Use different dorian modes in your minor chords and Mixolidyan in your major chords (and harmonize them as you said in the video), it really would change the flavour of your melodies. Also chormatic aproach to the next chords can be harmonized! Good video… would be interesting for your audience to see a more advanced aproaching. 🤘🏻
