      If it was easy your dishwasher drain hose might be a bit long, I am finding a long hose is straining my dishwasher, I have caught it making some odd click noises after I switched to a longer hose to do the high loop, so now I am switching back to a 6 inch hose with the breather.

    Thank you so much!! I've got the old dishwasher out now. I'm pretty good with tools and fixing things but the new dishwasher installation is something I've never done before. I had no clue what an air gap is, so this really helps and I'm ready to go now.

    It really helped me to understand what that thing under my sink was that was attached to nothing but a secondary drain pipe (evidently they installed a drain pipe just for the dishwasher apart from the sink drain pipe). Now that I know I am going to remove it since it is not being used at, the dishwasher has a high loop that goes straight to the disposal and it works just fine. Gonna install an air button for the disposal in the air gap hole since the air gap is just sitting there unused and I don't need it at all.

      Worse than ugly, I have never seen a discharge blockage that did not involve the flow restriction air gaps produce. After all, the discharge water is a thin slurry that depends on flow to keep the solids suspended. For decades the "high loop" method worked well, so I suppose it had to be replaced with something that causes a problem.

      Sadly, CA is one state that requires them. Maybe somebody will make one that does not cause plugs by restricting the flow 75% (3/4 inch hoses attached to a device with a 3/8 inch orifice), but until now it is what the code requires. Removing the cap and the "top hat" (see 1:40) lets you put a bit of liquid drain cleaner in the larger part that leads to the disposal. Doing that every few months will reduce your aggravation greatly.

      @@ThatFixItGuy thank you again ,now off to home depot to replace the connector to the drain hose I cut up . It's to small to slide on the air gap. Yours went on so easy .

    A vent for every drain is all you need.

    The hose from the dishwasher is too big to fit on the inlet of the air gap

    So, I want to install a 3-stage undersink filter and am trying to avoid having to drill a hole in my quart counters for the faucet...but, instead, I'd like to use the hole where my required air vent it. I'm hoping to tell the plumber who quoted me $600 to pound sand and do it myself (even I could do it after a bit of Youtubing, I think). He said he can rig this up in such a way as to be able to use that current hole...something about putting it underneath - not sure what that'd entail, though? Maybe just a high-loop? Any thoughts on how I can stay within code, install my filter myself, and not have to drill another hole, please?? Thanks for the video!

      I would go with a high loop. You don’t want a manufactured air gap installed under your sink. One partial of food stuck and you’ll have a flood. This video should help. ruclips.net/video/0g4JDqSafmc/видео.html

      @@ThatFixItGuy Many thanks! So it'd seem from watching that that it'd not be in compliance then?

    • @ThatFixItGuy

      It is in compliance some states and not in others. May not be code, but I have a high loop in my house. Who have more power? Wife or plumbing code. My wife did not want the air gap.

    A customer has an air gap that just shoots water from the dishwasher out into the sink like it doesn't drain into the disposal. Must be clogged or broken eh? Lol

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад +1

      Take the hose off that goes between the air gap and the disposal and beat it against something outside. It is clogged for sure. Make sure you have good slope on that pipe or it will clog all the time.

    Its better to install both hoses before attaching to the sink

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  3 года назад

      I have found that I’m am always readjusting the hoses is I do it that way. People may find it easier to put them on first. I’ve been told I do a lot of things the hard way! 🤣
