Christian Dinero yes, & bring back the only s chassis model to be built not on an s chassis.... The b14 usdm 200sx, aka the b14 jdm nissan lucino. Both shared the chassis with the sentra (usdm) / sunny (jdm)
Thank you for this video. I'm a huge Silvia fan. I was fortunate to have owned a 180SX (known as a 200SX) in Singapore and it was the cleanest one around. I dropped in a SR20 from a S15, using a S14 gear box and had multiple upgrades from a R33 under the chassis. I missed my car so much that I'm not shy to say that I actually teased when I had to sell her away. Today, all I have in a beautiful tattoo of her exact image on my arm. I've kept all the magazines that I was featured in too. Love the car. 😃🙏👍🤘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Silvia's will always be a part of my life. I think the size, the design and weight and the SR20DET made them perfect. I wonder if more work to the balance of the chassis would have helped at survavibility, because they tend to act like Porsche's when you give them more power to the engine, and owners have a hard time keeping them alive on the road, there just to light in the rear. But my only true wish is they stopped Drifting them, and that people discovered there track potential. The future of these cars seems dire.
Yes, I never really understood the drifting thing. It doesn't really provide any performance value as I don't believe I've seen a racing competition where it ever won against grip driving. If that were the case, major brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren would be seen adopting it. Everyone has there own preferences though. I believe it's just a "Cool" thing to do with a car like doing a burnout, donuts, etc. which can be fun.
I always loved the look of the S15. I was fortunate enough to purchase a beautiful worked JDM widebody Spec R a few years back as a weekend ride. Fulfilling a lifelong desire to own a high powered turbo street machine with big deep dish rims. Every time I take it out, I am approached by people asking about it. It is unbadged so I even get some people thinking it is some new exotic sports car. I hope the Silvia returns one day.
Great video!....I bought a new 240SX in 1992 and still have it!....looks and runs like when it was new....even though it has 415000 km on it now.......will never part with it!...thanks for the vid!
Great video helped me clear up some stuff on the 180 200 240 and silvia, although there are so many similarities and differences I'd like to know more about the differences between each model if you would make another video. If not it's still a great video and thanks!!
The major differences will be #1Engine and #2Cosmetic. I go through it in the video, but below is a briefing. (I did not cover the European 200SX). Silvia (JDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET.180SX (JDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET. 200SX (EDM) Initially offered with CA18DET (hence the 1 & 8 in 180SX), then later the SR20DET. (Don't confuse this with the 200SX in the US which is FWD and had an option for the SR20DE). 240SX (USA) Initially offered with the KA24E (hence the 2 & 4 in 240SX), then later KA24DE.
Thx for the video the differences are minimal but kinda confusing since you actually see more jdm versions here in the US or you just don't notice the usdm versions.
In Japan the S14 was introduced in 1993. And with many options... Back then and earlier the model cycle was very short in Japan unlike today. The S15 is one of the most beautiful car designs! :) And now they have the VCT engine. That would work in the S16.
3:39 240sx s13 coupe is called a Onevia and Twovia Opposite front Silvia s13 with body 180/240 is called a Sileghty and Silforty 7:20 Front s15 with body s13 or s13.5
After looking at a good number of your videos it seems like the late 70's through the late 90's was Japan's peak in sports car manufacturing. After that all the newer offerings just blend together and became boring cars that don't even capture the target audience anymore. Its like they're trying to make a sports car into something bigger and more practical.
Biggest difference between the red n black top s13 sr is the black top has a different ecu and the black top has heat sinks on the cylinder head. S13 sr also have extremely poor baffling inside the valve cover. You will commonly see the an s14/15 valve cover with the forward section of the s13 valve cover welded on.
I wish I knew what I was doing the first car I bought. I passed up an Eagle Talon, 280Z, molded Foxbody, ect... I chose a 95 Nissan Sentra 5-speed for $900.. It was $2500 on the window but dealer was fam friend. It looked brand new with 30,000's miles. And I put $2K into the stereo system with the money I saved. I should have got a S13/S14. Back in 2004ish. I didn't have my priorities straight when I came across my first big chunk of cash.
I was saddened to see it wasn't included :( I only found out about its existence about 4 months ago when watching a Dudeinblue video about it, had to have one right away and found one in Germany.
then change the title of this video, certainly not the history of the Silvia but more like the "popular" versions of the Silvia, the z history video you did included all the Zs. This Silvia video is just a selective highlight. The z31 was within the same timeline of the S12, the S12 is well worth mentioning.
By the way, not many people knew this, the Varietta was plated as a S16! If you check the metal tag plate on the firewall of a Varietta, it will say S16. 😃😉👍
I wish you went over the 200sx but it seems that was outside of Japan and USA so Europe and other countries. There's one near me that looks exactly like an S14 Silvia but has a 200sx badge on the back and there's not much coverage on it online so it baffles me, but this video did help a bit.
US S13 convertibles did receive a powered convertible top. I cannot confirm if it was an option or it was standard but there for sure was verts with power convertible tops.
I love my 180SX we imported from Japan to Australia in 2000 for 11k aud on road was a bargain and I still have it with many mods BUT I now love in Asia and it sits at my parents house wait for my return one day such a fun car with so many mods I always said don't know what ya miss to ya drive a Nissn the price is going up a lot for a OG 180sx so sitn on it for a long time yet only 130,000kmin 30yrs.
The reason for s15 and Silvia demise was new emissions refs at the time. The SR turbo motor was not compliant and the costs to develop it or create a new motor was too much for a company that just avoided bankruptcy
The Japanese S13 Coupé is easily one of my favorite cara of all time. Just sad that you cannot get them in Europe or the US, you'd have to buy a US S13 Coupé and swap the entire front.
two cars that are similar... one has 280hp 202lbft the other has 205hp 283lbft, "1994" Nissan skyline R34 or the Ford Thunderbird 4.6... each have there own modified versions with and without forced induction.
Nissan should release an S16 and price it just a tiny bit above the FRS. With a turbo engine that makes anywhere in the 300 range, they could be super aggressive with marketing and advertise it as the car everyone who bought an FRS wishes they had.
Not likely since it will eat into 370Z sales. They've already done this in the 90's (Skyline, 300ZX, Silvia, 180SX) hence they went bankrupt. If you're dead set on a Silvia-like car, then just buy a GT/BRZ and turbocharge it. Nissan's hesitation caused Toyota/Subaru to build it.
Any tips for buying one cheaper? Is it worth buying just a shell and putting the better s13 or s14 sr20 in it instead of the ka? I love the body styling of the 91-94 240sx
It would awesome if they could bring a 4 doors sedan with a 4 cylinder engine decent weight and good power, besides de silvias and gtrs other regular cars are kind of slow compared to other regular cars in the market :( I love nissan but thats a fact
Luis Gonzalez True that. It's going to be hard though, since Nissan is more focused on a performance V6 and doesn't have a peformance 4-cylinder at the moment. Maybe they can pull one from Renault.
GT Content I wish the could bring a good hatchback with maybe an sr16 turbo? haha it would be awesome or maybe bring back a nissan 200sx, a coupe version of the new nissan sentra I hate admit it but toyota and honda are doing faster "regular"cars than nissan
Luis Gonzalez I think most of us would like to see that, but they're so hesitant on an entry level rwd sportscar (Hint, hint. The FRS/86/BRZ is the Silvia that Nissan never built).
Luis Gonzalez check out the sentras, b14 with sr20de & 5 spd, b15 sentra ser spec v with 2.5 vvl. Mucho potential. Also if you've got money i hear the new gen maximas have some options
Brian O'Conner I didn't forget them. As I stated in my intro @30seconds. I only focused on the US and Japanese models. Bringing the European versions in would confuse the already confusing naming system.
I do not know what I have for 15 years my s 14 .but I know this every gas station I go allway some body ask me to buy or talk about it.any way I just swap to sr 20 but I still miss my ka it more quiter
Well, it came as a surprise to me that S13 with the fixed headlights never came out in USA and Europe. So were all of the LHD S13s Silvia just converted so called Notchbacks?
From my memory (Double check), I don't believe Europe received the S13 "Coupe/Silvia" with the fixed headlights. I recall Europe receiving the S13 Fastback and then the S14 Silvia. The S13 "Coupe/Silvia" that you might see around were privately imported. Like I mentioned, double check as I don't live in Europe.
The actually can you know... I mean.. Nissan has tons of 4-bangers saloon cars and it's easy to just take one, redesign it and make it into a new engine. For Nissan, it's easy but with the 370Z and GTR, I think they did not want to destroy the niche now but for pure JDM fans, they should have released a new Silvia by now.
Not viable. R&D and casting for a new engine without purpose (using across multiple platforms) is expensive. Hence, you see engines of the same family in FWD, RWD and maybe AWD configuration. Ex: Nissan Altima/Maxima sharing the VQ with the 350Z. History: The reason Nissan went into bankruptcy in the 90's is exactly what you are saying. Nissan had too many models in their lineup. Why buy a larger 300ZX TT when you can get a lighter Turbo Silvia?....sales would eventually be taken from the Z to the Silvia....internal competition. I believe even the GT/86 is having slow sales figures right now, so it's not really a market you'd want to get into unless you are the Mazda Miata which seems to kill anything that competes with it.
Nissan and Toyota have just gone down hill since then if you're a sports car enthusiast. They used to have so many good options. I guess in a way it's a plus for current owners of these cars because in good condition they aren't depreciating as much as other cars of their era have since there's no newer version (even though me personally still would probably prefer the older style for the nostalgia)
you have forgot to explain why the badge is a Prince, not the nissan, also, without the forced to merg with nissan, the nissan company would have not been able to make any silvia, nor skyline
Nissan should revive the S chassis. The 90s Japanese car scene is my favorite.
Christian Dinero The Silvia lives on, just not as a Nissan...take a look at the 86/BRZ.
They cant sell you a z if you are buying an s chassis’s
Christian Dinero yes, & bring back the only s chassis model to be built not on an s chassis.... The b14 usdm 200sx, aka the b14 jdm nissan lucino. Both shared the chassis with the sentra (usdm) / sunny (jdm)
If you can explain to Nissan how they do it and make money I’m sure they are all ears
Well, technically the new Z is the new 240SX
2023 and your video stills packs so much information!!! appreciate you bro

Try putting some new Rays rims they don't disappoint
i am impressed with your clip. Now i feel so tempted to get a s13 now. I learnt so much about my s14.
Michael Chams Glad, you enjoyed and learned from this video.
got myself a s14 kouki in may. really love the sr20det. 90's jdm cars were simply the best
LOVE THIS VIDEO told me the history of my dream car !!
I'm glad it was informative.
Haha dream car. Cool. Get one now before they are to expensive
A variations of S1 series, the Nissan sports drift legends, great video, i'm a fan of Silvia Sisters.

No wonder I can't find an S15 anywhere!
*_Damn you, Japan!_*

Thanks for these history videos! Very helpful for someone who is newly into cars :)
You're welcome
currently watching this on a road trip on my way to get an s14 from a place that sells a handful of them, good video, cheers brother. subscribed

Correct. Japan gets most everything from there before the US 😢.
Yes but like here in Europe some things also have to change before.

Can you please do a history on the MR2? It has always been one of my all time favorites as a boy growing up in California.
Bolo L I can add that to the cue.
Awesome, thanks!
A history on the Mitsubishi Galant would be interesting.
I'll put it in the cue. I have several others that I'm working on at the moment.
And our 200SX had different rear tail lights we had the Japanese tail lights in Australia and we got the S15 as well
That was a very nice and useful video. Thanks!
US S13 convertibles did receive a powered convertible top. I cannot confirm if it was an option or it was standard but there for sure was verts with power convertible tops.
I miss my S14b so bad. Especially now that people are doing crazy stuff with the KA
You should put together a vid for jdm/usdm b13/b14/b15 sentra/sunny & 200sx/lucino. Love your vids. Keep up the good work
I'll keep it in mind.

Nick Royce Thanks! I'll take that one into consideration.
Nice video, I'm a big fan of the 98 240sx and Sylvia Spec R. I wish I could own one, instead I got a Spec V lol.

The Japanese S13 Coupé is easily one of my favorite cara of all time.
Just sad that you cannot get them in Europe or the US, you'd have to buy a US S13 Coupé and swap the entire front.
good video very useful thumbs up 👍👍
+Kuldeep Giri You're welcome!
in the US market ALL 1994 models were convertible.
Do Nissan Z, Nissan Skyline , Honda S2000 and Miata histories please
+Ros Rod I've got those in my backlog.
that CA18DE looks so much like a short RB26DETT
more of a rb20det
I like the 95 jdm s14 the most.
RB25 in 240SX = AWESOME!!!
welll i just bought a S14 with s15 back back to the old days

In Australia we only got the 180SX and the Silvia and people swaped the front ends and we called it a Silady SX if you did that Vice versa
love it
Thanks.
If they do bring the silvia back they should just put in another truck engine. just make the motor mounts nicely placed for swaps
❤🎉
Love you channel bro keep it up you will be big like car throttle however please do the history of subaru forester
DJ Teneyez Thanks! I've got quite a backlog right now, but I'll see what I can do.
Could you make a video about the Toyota Mark X?
Nissan Blewbirds were selling well in europe in 1971
Nissan should release an S16 and price it just a tiny bit above the FRS.
Nissan's hesitation caused Toyota/Subaru to build it.
this car is indeed complex because of all the gens and styles.
Yes. This may be why Nissan went bankrupt. Too many "custom" features, gadgets, tech, etc.
The nissan s14 silvia was actually introduced in 1993.
True. Just not here in the states :/

There's a car Nissan made named Cefiro its 4 door and it got RB in it but only the first gen the second and third one use FF layout
Luis Gonzalez check out the sentras, b14 with sr20de & 5 spd, b15 sentra ser spec v with 2.5 vvl. Mucho potential. Also if you've got money i hear the new gen maximas have some options
240SX V-6 in Usa was a expesive used car many car clubs reverded this car as a fine example
You forgot about the european versions of s13 200sx with notchback body only and ca18det 170 hp, and s14 with sr20de 160 hp and sr20det 220 hp
Brian O'Conner I didn't forget them. As I stated in my intro @30seconds. I only focused on the US and Japanese models. Bringing the European versions in would confuse the already confusing naming system.
I heard Adam LZ, he's a youtube star, he drives a cream yellow 240SX, his JDM drift tuner car.
Do the "B" chassis... i own a 1996 Nissan Sentra/Sunny B13 (Philippines)
A S16 would dominate the entry level sports car market if they can make a rwd turbo 4.
+rambow70 True, but they don't have one. The S16 lives on in the FRS/GT86/GT/BRZ.
At least we got an sr20 sentra
+noobasarus rex 😁
I got a 200sx spec s s15 (Australian delivered)
+GuessWhoBuddy 1801 Nice
Try and find a clean 240sx garage Queen here in the states...
The infinity q60 coupe could de the silvia
the s15 is year 1999 to 2003

I do not know what I have for 15 years my s 14 .but I know this every gas station I go allway some body ask me to buy or talk about it.any way I just swap to sr 20 but I still miss my ka it more quiter
What about the Sileighty?!
Well, it came as a surprise to me that S13 with the fixed headlights never came out in USA and Europe. So were all of the LHD S13s Silvia just converted so called Notchbacks?
Yes, they were all converted to the "Flip-up" headlights prior to getting shipped out to the US.
hm, andhow about Europe, did we get any LHD S13 Silvias with the fixed headlights?
Thanks for your reply!
From my memory (Double check), I don't believe Europe received the S13 "Coupe/Silvia" with the fixed headlights. I recall Europe receiving the S13 Fastback and then the S14 Silvia. The S13 "Coupe/Silvia" that you might see around were privately imported. Like I mentioned, double check as I don't live in Europe.
thats a cool shirt
Thanks!
upload more u almost at 60k
I have a 1995 180sx s13 and what to know what is it compatibility parts here in United States

i have a s14 with a s15 rear
+Cody Wang Nice!

I might do a Corolla history, but other than the AE86/Trueno, it doesn't seem that exciting. I'll keep it in mind.
GT Content the AE86 history includes initial d Doriftu
Why! Why you don't cover the early models. I have the S12 No S chassis history is complete without the originals!! CSP311!!

What about conversions of the s14 zenki and kouki... is it still the same disregarding the year?
It's just a conversion. Technically it's not based on vehicle VIN#.
Nissan and Toyota have just gone down hill since then if you're a sports car enthusiast. They used to have so many good options. I guess in a way it's a plus for current owners of these cars because in good condition they aren't depreciating as much as other cars of their era have since there's no newer version (even though me personally still would probably prefer the older style for the nostalgia)
you have forgot to explain why the badge is a Prince, not the nissan, also, without the forced to merg with nissan, the nissan company would have not been able to make any silvia, nor skyline
silvia/240sx were made in the late eighties thru the early 2000's
+robbgnarly Yups...late 1988 to 2002ish from what I recall.
