I love Disturbed , great singer.. trained formally . their concerts are hard rock with excellent musicians..arrangements cool, and singing is bad ass.. prefer this Sound of Silence
I'm over 70 years old, so I remember when Simon and Garfunkel released this song. I was not overly optimistic when I heard of this cover. But when I heard it my jaw dropped, they had taken the original and transformed it from a warning to a condemnation!!! It hit hard because it pointed out how my generation had failed to fulfill the dreams we had!!
Same bit younger at 65 and Simon and Garfunkel were one of my favourites growing up. I only first watched and heard this version in past couple of years and was astounded. So different but so so powerful. I keep coming back to listen to this version. Just shows we should all be open minded :)
I'm 66, & the first time I heard Disturbed's version I realized how much grief and anger I feel over how the dreams of the '60s & '70s were so poorly realized.
I'm 62 yrs old and I loved Simon and Garfunkles version, but this version moved me to tears the first time I heard it. This is so powerful and so beautiful to me.
I have watched hundreds of reactions to this song and it never gets old. David comes from a long line of Jewish Cantors. He was professionally trained to preserve his vocals but on a human note, he is not tattooed out of respect for his heritage, especially his grandfather and removes his piercings when with them. Mad respect to his talent as well as to the man. On the Conan live he actually had to sit. He had just been. Released from the hospital, still had fever and yet. Delivered what was a spectacular performance! Simon said its as much David's as his now. Theirs was a warning....David's is what happens and the anger because the warning wasn't heard...
He also had an injury that forever altered his voice. I think it was an incredibly bad case of acid reflux that began deteriorating his throat from the inside.
I was thinking while watching this that he must've been classically trained. This might be my all-time favorite song. Every time I watch it I get goosebumps.
First time I heard David sing this rendition, I was at work. I stopped dead in my tracks. By the end I was covered with chill bumps and crying. Thank you for appreciating this masterpiece.
He is a classically Trained Cantor... it shows. This is what happens when talent meets training. Vocal perfection is achieved with the ability to do whatever you want.
The original song by Simon and Garfunkel was a warning to people, this version is the result of nobody listening to that warning. This one gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it and I’ve heard it about 100 times. I really love how Disturbed treated this cover and kept it true to the original, so many bands would have turned it into something more akin to the genre they usually do and the song would loose all meaning. Great reaction to a great cover.
Being a classically trained Jewish cantor, he can hit all the notes and with the power and anger the song evokes. Simon and Garfunkel version was a warning. This version reflects the anger behind not heeding that warning.
@Ryan Critchlow - I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to song remakes... but I recently discovered this one, as well as their cover of Land of Confusion. Both songs were fantastic as originals, but I have to admit, Disturbed took them both to another level. I think your assessment about the original and the cover being "Warning" and "result of ignoring the warning" is spot on. When I saw the video for Land of Confusion, I called my wife into the room, and said, "This is the most 'Pink Floyd's The Wall' video without actually being made by Pink Floyd"... She didn't argue with me about that viewpoint. Honestly, I'm only recently getting into 90s metal, post Grunge. I always loved 80s "hair metal", and the offshoots of it from that time, until the early 90s. I was in my 20s from 1987 until 1997, but the music didn't really connect with me at the time. I don't know why, but it's really hitting me now, in my mid 50s.
Paul Simon wrote this song, and Simon & Garfunkle initially recorded it. At the time, it was a commentary on society. David Draiman recorded it as a warning to current society; and how appropriate that was. Paul Simon personally thanked him, and so do I. Thanks for putting it out there again.
I saw an interview he did stating exactly that. He said after a show that he can't join in anything after the show with the rest of the band. He doesn't drink or join in the get togethers after the show because after two hours of singing he has to protect his voice and can't be trying to talk over people. He said it was like being a monk. Hearing Disturbed sing this song was also my first introduction to this band. Heard it inside a convenience store. The clerk had it playing. I couldn't get enough of listening to it. It was awesome. I don't usually listen to heavy metal but there was something about this man and this song. It was just awesome.
This is one of those rare covers that improves on the original, which is already a classic. David Draiman's voice is just something else!! As soon as I heard this cover I knew it was going right up there amongst my favourite songs of all time.
Notice the sun rising as the boat crosses to the distance shore to meet the song writers that are ready for instruments to play their songs. Love this video!!
The lead singer has such a powerful voice and this version is so much better. Altho friends and family will hear it one day - but you have to listen to it with no distractions. This is wow!!!!
I’m a 73 year old grandma that starting following Disturbed when this video popped up on my RUclips feed 2 years ago when everything was first shut down with the pandemic. Blown away! Current favs are still the FooFighters, Imagine Dragons, Daughtry, and still appreciate Metallica and Pantera. Still a huge Rolling Stones fan. I’ve watched several of Disturbed’s live concerts on YT. I know a lot about lead singer David Draiman, but everything was covered by other comments, but no one mentioned that when this video came out in 2015, Paul Simon reached out to the band and practically said that they now own that song. From what I learned this man was a cantor who sang in temple, the son of a rabbi. He left to pursue a career as a rock singer. I love his voice. Thanks for playing.
David Draiman (singer here) sang this live on Conan's show (when he was recovering from a virus). Amazing. You're right that this is not the typical Disturbed metal song, but Disturbed's cover is retelling the story that S&G predicted nearly 60 years ago. Their lyrics tell of a society losing touch with one another, but in a softer folk-rock way. Disturbed's Draiman makes clear that their prediction was right and condemns what we've become. It seems more relevant today than it was in the mid-'60s. Our society is much more disconnected today. As someone who bought the original S&G album, I refused to listen to this cover for months. My mistake. Paul Simon himself said he loved Disturbed's cover. Thanks for playing and reacting.
The first time I heard this rendition I actually pulled the car over because it brought goosebumps and chills. I HAD to know who sung this. I've been hooked on Disturbed from that moment on. Better then the original.
Please. Not better. The right rendition for a different time. The original was a 60s folk rock classic. It became an iconic anthem, resonating with the self-righteousness of the Boomer's emerging counterculture rebellion. Let's face it. We were spoiled brats and fucked things up worse than our parents!
I've been to concerts with Disturbed.. and yes he's definitely that powerful!! I absolutely love this band!! They're definitely one to go down fighting until the end!!!
The next song you should react to is "Down with the Sickness", but you have to do the uncensored album version because the music video cuts out almost the entire ending of the song which was deemed too violent for most people.
Definitely do a react to His Conan performance. As a first song of their's I recommend Down With The Sickness", but it needs to be the FULL version. I don't think there's a video of it, just a version on You Tube with the lyrics. But it really really really needs to be the FULL, unedited/Complete version. Without it it really lacks the true "soul" of the song.
yes. as a million others have said before...... not only does David Draiman have the range....... but he has complete control over his heavy metal voice shredding as well...... it's why it's an amazing song.
Songs are all about the message they send. In these times of angst, this is how to be heard. I’m a huge S&G fan, I’m 73 yrs of age, & I’m now a major Disturbed fan. There’s no reason folk/message music can’t be screamed in your face and accompanied by tympani! Many’s the time I’ve screamed (for instance) “If I had a hammer.” Us folkies get angry, but Disturbed does it best. New songs are Fierce and wonderful.
I was just front row at a Disturbed concert and HOLY SHIT! Power and just pure drive is all I felt. It was epic! They did this song, and it was just as moving live as the studio version. These guys are amazing.
Seen this song played live twice, once with a small orchestra playing with him. He truly is a phenomenal singer and his words he speaks during their concerts are just a blessing.
David Draiman (singer) is widely considered among best metal vocalists of all time. Yes he puts on a whole show with this kind of sound and energy. They're most popularly requested song is probably "Down with the Sickness" but they have many great tunes. I've read it mused that S&G's version was a campy and fun way to reminding us all that as humans we need to learn to communicate more and not just bury our heads in TV and other such media to caution us against what the world could look like if we don't try to talk to each other. Disturbed's version is anger and despair because we didn't fkn listen!
This singing is second nature to him. He's able to do this over and over again. I do not like Disturbed a lot, but I give him significant amount of credit for being an insanely talented vocalist.
you want to know what i love about this video,? i just love watching your face as this beautiful bald man is singing this song,he is banging it out so wonderfully and i just love watching you listening because your facial expressions say it all
Simon and Garfunkel have actually come out and said they appreciate Drainman's version so much they feel it is better than their own! This is without a doubt one of my all time favorite songs. I love your selection of vibes the video gave you. Same here, definite 300 vibes!!!!
By the time they realeased this song they have been headline touring rock shows for a decade. With him already being a strong vocalist, he earned the vocal dexterity to record and perform a song like this
Aaahhhh welcome to the magical realm that is David Draiman lol. A classically trained metal singer. It literally doesn't matter what you listen to from his catalogue - everything is fire. Have fun with this band ❤️🇨🇦
Disturbed may be heavy metal, but the music is not only powerful but has a strong social conscience with impactful messages. Yes, David Draiman's voice is indeed, that powerful. As the lead singer, he performs with this power live. I do hope you will explore their music and videos; well worth it.
My friend & I used to love & listen to this song back in the day, by Simon & Garfunkel. It was a favorite of ours. We're now both 77 years old! I listen to this over & over. David has an awesome voice especially for this song & the way they do it. All I can say is ... WOW!❤❤❤
I 75 and I was at a Simon and Garfunkel concert in1968 and heard this for the first time. This cover is amazing. I'll bet Simon and Garfunkel are amazed by this.
If you're interested in another set with a great cover/different vibe - check out the 1994 NIN "Hurt" followed by the 2002 Johnny Cash "Hurt" - Same song - but what the two artist do with it is just cool to see.
Witnessing this band play live is something I will never forget. They were just a blip on the screen when they came to Madison Wisconsin. Simply amazing. And this is coming from a woman that grew up with Simon and Garfunkel.
This hit like a ton of bricks. And came out during a difficult time in my life . To take Simon and Garfunkels little heart warming dity and transform it 8nto something that brings you to your knees and takes the wind out of you . Just amazing. I'd heard 9f th8s band over the years but never felt the magnitude of their scope till they churned this one to the top . Impressive. Heart felt and straight from their soul. They've got a new fan .
I'm an 84 year old great grandma. I've listened to this recording so many times I've lost track. I get goose bumps, and sometimes tears, every time I listen to it. I've requested it to be played as I die and take my last breaths, which I hope is a long time away. David is the best!!
Fantastic idea, I think I will adopt your idea. It would be a wonderful good bye, folks, I'm out of here song. So powerful. I'm 85 and just recently came across David's rendition, tears every time I listen to to it.😊😊😊
He performed this live on Conan while still being sick after being released from the Hospital. The producers of the network show wanted to use Autotune and David Draiman the lead singer to Disturbed refused to do the performance if they used the autotune. And that performance is still unbelievable!
When you think about it, The original was a warning, Danial's (yes that's his name) version says its already too late. Watch it again and follow the visuals because they alone tell a story. Paul told him, "This song is now yours".
I'm 72. I was around when Simon and Garfunkel came out with this song. The original sounded warm and like a meditation. This was like being pelted with broken glass, and I really understood the lyrics for the first time. I'm glad Disturbed did this cover.
Okay this is a really good cover of this song. I love, and grew up listening to the Simon and Garfunkel version (60's baby). Paul Simon wrote this song and the lyrics are timeless, and hold true to what is happening in the world today.
David Draiman has such an incredible voice! I literally feel it in my bones.....like rumbling thunder. I get goosebumps and tear up every single time I listen to this song....which is a lot 🖤🤘
WOW. I grew up listening to the original, but have never heard of Disturbed, nor their rendition of this song. Thank you for this video! It was powerful. Moving. Just...WOW. I love your reaction videos!! ♥
Love the original and Disturbed’s version equally. It’s like the music and the way they were sung was perfect for what was going on and the way the world was/is during the time of recording.
Just about everyone who reacts to this song is blown away by David's vocals. I watched the Conan performance as well. Even though he wasn't feeling well, it was still awesome. I prefer this version because I think it shows the raw emotion more than the Conan one. IMO Thanks for the reaction!

@@andrewf9322 I know these by heart!! Jeff Buckley was a GREAT artist, with a really good vocal!!!

I love this group!! Disturbed version is my favorite rendition of the sound of silence
Check out his live version on The Conan O’Brien show
Seen this song played live twice, once with a small orchestra playing with him.
Disturbed's version is anger and despair because we didn't fkn listen!
ronnie james dio , bruce dickinson , rob halford might disagree
@@brucedickinson12 anyone who is in the running for the best would disagree and vote for themselves. I would put David in that list.
Yes, he is a powerful singer!! He can do it on stage!
This singing is second nature to him. He's able to do this over and over again. I do not like Disturbed a lot, but I give him significant amount of credit for being an insanely talented vocalist.
I don't care how many times I listen to this, it moves me hardcore and brings tears to my eyes
I’ve seen them in concert twice. They performed this both times. He kills it live! Every time! He is real and powerful. Kind and loves all.
you want to know what i love about this video,? i just love watching your face as this beautiful bald man is singing this song,he is banging it out so wonderfully and i just love watching you listening because your facial expressions say it all
He did this in 1 take in the studio and shows such restraint and control and power in his live version too..give chills
I like how they put people on notice with this song- we are insanely talented
This cover of The Sound of Silence always gives me chills. Man, it's powerful.
Yes, David definitely nailed this.
Disturbed may be heavy metal, but the music is not only powerful but has a strong social conscience with impactful messages. Yes, David Draiman's voice is indeed, that powerful. As the lead singer, he performs with this power live. I do hope you will explore their music and videos; well worth it.
He absolutely performs this well live.
He's a trained opera singer.....I love Disturbed....and this version of the song feels right.
He was supposed to be a Cantor as his Father & Grandfather.
My friend & I used to love & listen to this song back in the day, by Simon & Garfunkel. It was a favorite of ours. We're now both 77 years old! I listen to this over & over. David has an awesome voice especially for this song & the way they do it. All I can say is ... WOW!❤❤❤
Yes they can perform like that outside of studio…it’s nuts.
When David sings this live...you can hear a pin drop!
"Be you, they'll adjust" LOVE that!
You cannot go wrong with anything from Disturbed. This man's voice is EVERYTHING. ❤️
When a song can snatch your soul and invoke an emotional reaction...Master Class.
Goosebumps! Every time!!!
I love that song sung by David goosebumps every time it's awesome.
Next up by them would have to be "Down with a Sickness". Great reaction to one of the best covers of a song ever.
Yes, I was going to suggest that one. ruclips.net/video/09LTT0xwdfw/видео.html
My favorite one. Give it a listen.
Absolutely agreewith this. Great contrast, as what it's probably what they're best known for.
❤ it is amazing.
They also did a cover of a Genesis song called Land of Confusion and it's AMAZING! David Draimon does Phil Collins justice in the vocals of that song.
Love both versions.
I'm an 84 year old great grandma. I've listened to this recording so many times I've lost track. I get goose bumps, and sometimes tears, every time I listen to it. I've requested it to be played as I die and take my last breaths, which I hope is a long time away. David is the best!!
I have also requested it to be played upon my death And requested that everyone learn every word of it And sing it as loud as they possibly can
Fantastic idea, I think I will adopt your idea.
He has sung this song live…The best version ever.
He has that voice. Any one that has seen him live knkws he is capable of sintlije this.
Their concerts are amazing! And yes he can sing like that for a long time. Nice guy n whole band it great! ❤
It's a warrior spirit.
Absolutely powerful! He's got the voice of an ANGEL.Well done .❤️
Your right.l can't imagine this song only being sung the VERY LAST SONG AT A CONCERT. WOW!!!
Just about everyone who reacts to this song is blown away by David's vocals. I watched the Conan performance as well. Even though he wasn't feeling well, it was still awesome. I prefer this version because I think it shows the raw emotion more than the Conan one. IMO Thanks for the reaction!
The live version of this with Disturbed and Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy is even more stellar!!!
David Draiman is a phenomenal singer. I'm excited to see you react to more of Disturbed.
I’ve seen David Draiman perform this live and he’s just as powerful and when he performed this song I had goosebumps the entire time. Damn near brings you to tears
I love how you are not only open to new music, but you share a lot of the same views as me. Love your reactions and breakdowns brother!
