  • I bought these speakers used on ebay from the original owner and when I received them I noticed the tweeter was cutting out on bass tracks. I did the usual troubleshooting and noticed all the connection to the drivers were fine. I then looked at the crossover and noticed a loose resister on the tweeter circuit.

    Actually had the same exact problem on the DCM’s I’m restoring, The solder joint had failed and mine looked fine at first glance, played some music as I wiggled the resistor and sure enough it was the culprit!

      Yes. I have a look inside video on the Heco Aurora 700 planned to come out on 12/15/23. The review video will be a month or two later. IMO you can't go wrong with these speakers, especially at the current sale price. They offer tremendous value for money!

      Hi David. I decided not to do a review of the Aurora 700 since there are already plenty of review videos about them on youtube. Have you seen my look inside video of these speakers? The build quality is pretty phenomenal consider the price point. No doubt, the Aurora 700s are a value leader in their price point. I really like them!

    It can happen with HMD parts all the time. Boards are placed on rafts and pushed through an automated soldering machine. If they were bumped, the resistor can have been pushed out of its hole, and then the solder only partially kept it in place, good enough for QC to not catch it. During shipping, or after being heated and cooled a few times, it will snap off completely, resulting in what you see here.
    It's nobody's fault really, but it should have been caught in QC

      Either way it was an easy fix and wasn't a big deal at all. I love the speakers, but wish I didn't have to troubleshoot a tweeter problem so soon into my ownership.

      @@generationbehindhifi, I feel you, I just wanted to try and help explain how it might have happened. I work in electronics, I've seen that fault more times than I can count

    That could have easily happened during shipping. Not necessarily the ebayer being dishonest.

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  9 месяцев назад

      Perhaps, but where you lose me with that argument is how clean the end of the resister is. I don't think the resister has ever made contact with the joint.

      @@generationbehindhifimight have snapped off. I've never seen resistors raised like that in crossovers either. In an amplifier or something high current yes, but not a crossover.

    • @generationbehindhifi
      @generationbehindhifi  9 месяцев назад

      @@Pete.across.the.street There would have been a remaining stem from the resistor sticking out of the solder joint if that was the case and I didn't see one. I think it was like this since new. Were you the one that sold these speakers to me? lol! :)
      Anyways it was an easy fix.
