I met Paul and Hunter in early 2022 and was very impressed with their creativity, skill, and craftsmanship. Back then, they were installing fixed shower bathrooms in the back of the van. We chatted about a hidden shower. I was impressed with Hunter’s planning and executing of this hidden shower, with the two drains, magnets at the top and bottom of the two shower curtains, and how the curtains can provide privacy for the toilet, if necessary. The hidden shower and Murphy bed really make the shorter vans more practical. For me, this is the perfect van, expertly crafted.
Patrick and Hunter.... I'm a retired RV salesman with 20 years in the business and I have to say that I am most impressed with this creation !!! Fantastic !!!
Very nicely built. These videos are so useful for getting inspiration. Pre-pandemic, I did a self-build conversion (with basic skills and tools) on the road outside my house. I had a lifting bed - just using sail ropes and block and tackle to help lift up, which worked very well. When stowed, it was about 1.5m (5ft) height underneath, so I had the seating under there. It was at the front of the van, and when stowed you could slide it about 18" above the cab to reduce the low height section. The rest of the van was full height with a normal domestic under counter compressor fridge (converted to 12v, but next time I'll just use standard 240v AC from the inverter), LPG gas hob and oven, a sink with a retractable shower tap and a recessed shower tray as this guy's done (but my effort was nothing like as professional looking!), a swing table made out of a bit of oak, and more storage than was necessary. All the electrics was from solar (no alternator from the engine or shore supply). In three years I used the shower about four times (the rest of the time I used service stations, campsites, lakes, or just had a flannel wash). Every other van person I've met says that the shower was a priority when they built/bought the van, but then never use it. So a system like this I think it's a good compromise - it doesn't take up space. The retractable tap means you can use it outside of the van to wash stuff (or shower). Next build will have a similar layout, the bed worked very well (although I'm tempted but the Murphy) but probably no shower tray, and I'll cut down on the storage, and hopefully build it so it's more professional looking. As it was an old van that I bought for £4k ($5k), and I did everything myself, the whole cost was about £8,000. As well as cost, my priorities were as low tech as possible as I planned to go to West Africa in it and didn't want it to be too reliant on tech that would be affected by dust and difficult to fix, and although it was a 2wd van I had BFG AT tyres that gave a 1-2" lift and was very effecting on gravel pistes in Morocco. Sadly the standard Mercedes rust took over and I had to scrap the van. Next time I'll use a Fiat Ducato.
This is IT. A real land yacht ... If I ever get some money at hand this is the guy who I would hand it over to with no worries. Perfect build for fair money.
Great project! Actually one of the best I have seen so far. For my needs I would just want to have a fully-fledged bathroom and an exhaust system for the kitchen. Apart from it, the project is just perfect!
Nice job! I have never understood the waisted space of a shower - the shower and bed maximizes the limited space. I get when people say they love the designated bed, but when you have limited space, this is the way to space, comfort, and ease!
The waisted space in the shower is important, but the shoulder space and headroom are also important considerations. You need to be able to move around and reach all body parts.
Oh my! I've watched literally thousands of camper build tours. This is unbelievable. It dropped my jaw multiple times. And the price!? Most would be selling this for $250k+! The battery system alone is miles ahead of even most professional builds.
Wow! This is really impressive. Easily one of the best layout and design I have ever seen, from the murphy bed do the hidden toilet and bathroom, and the kitchen as well. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Played around with a few different ideas. Most track systems hang low and are sometimes finicky with the small rollers. There's 26 hidden magnets in the ceiling, so there's no wrong way to snap it up. 😀
Its a really good build. I would buy it with a couple of changes and if it was cheaper. Being a poor disabled person trying to survive in the age of cost of living crisis, I could live in this build. I would take out the shower and built in monitor. Add folding out steps or ramp for easier access for when I'm older or my health declines further, with handrail. I would add an outdoor shower system to avoid rust, mould or damp inside the van. Have easier access to electricals such as cables etc in case of much needed repairs rather than having to take some of the build apart to access them. I would add more cold food storage such as a large fridge freezer. Getting to the shop while disabled and poor can be hard. So bulk buying on the cheap is easier and more cost effective. I didn't quite catch how much solar it has but I would also add a small wind turbine for energy generation. Either on the roof acting like a weather vein or an out door system you fold away like on a tripod. Living in Scotland, the Sun is almost non existent but we do have plenty of wind and rain. I don't know if I missed it but I didn't notice anything mentioned about a heating system. I would add an electrical one as it gets really cold here in Scotland during winter. And maybe some sort of air conditioning for the hotter months. Or for traveling where its generally hotter. Thanks for the video. It helped give me ideas for my own build. Now I just have to find a van I can afford and someone to build it out. Unlikely sadly. ^_^
Wow, Patrick. I have watched your videos for a long time and just love how you always seem to have such a variety of builds, etc. I have researched this subject for a long time and finally designed what I thought would be my perfect home on wheels. As I watched this video, I kept getting excited over and over. By then end, I was thinking to myself..."THIS IS IT!!! My perfect home!!!!" With the exception of a couple of little changes/additions, this is it!!!! So, I would like to get in would like to get in touch with Hunter to talk with him about his company building out my van. Thank you to Patrick for this video and to Hunter for being so creative and innovative in your van build. I am so excited, I don't think I'll be able to sleep for a few nights. Sorry I seem to have rambled on and on, but I am so unbelievably excited that I would like to talk to Hunter right NOW!!!😃 However, since it's the middle of the night here, I don't think that would be too smart!!! Thanks again, to both of you...and now I'll be quiet...promise!🥰
Love your van and really impressed with quality of workmanship and presentation. Also some great ideas on layout and functionality that I’ve never seen before.
This is one of the best built, well thought out, conversions I've ever seen. I've been planning my rig upfit for years and found a few things I didn't even consider in this nine minute videos. Very, VERY well done. This is one of the few builders I'd trust - if I had the money to pay for it. lol!
I think this is the best van I've ever seen. Only two things I would change. First, it would be nice to have the capability for solar production. I'm not sure if they make 48 volt panels, but they might. My house has 220 volt panels (never heard of them before they installed). The other minor thing would be to have the tank monitor up where you can check it easily, instead of near the floor in the cabinet. Anyhow, great van design!!
I loved the idea of two alternators. I suppose you could have a little portable solar powered battery if you felt like being stationary for a while and not have to drive around to recharge everything but a back up solar system, one way or another would make me feel a little better.
Game changer!! Very impressive build. The magnetic curtain is brilliant- the silly little hooks on all the other shower curtains look like a pain to set up. The magnet system makes the curtains so much more useful- you can hang them anywhere to use or dry them. My only suggestion is to have a spray nozzle next to or on the sink faucet in order to better clean out the shower pan when needed. And big THANK YOU for making the most info packed video under ten minutes! I can't stand the ones that drag out for half an hour. Thank you for your efficiency Hunter! 😄
That's awesome Jeff! I agree with pat the mcs6 is a great hydronic unit . It was a consideration for this van when I installed the s2d2 but with the overabundance of power in the battery bank, the simplest solution was a bosch electric water heater. Out of curiosity what kind of setup did you use for the recirculation on the gray water side?
Patrick I re watching your videos in November 2024. The new videos do not have comments. Have been watching some new rear bath new class B videos. And this builder came to mind. I liked Paul's layouts and innovations. Hunter is excellent too.
