  • Dalton Knecht’s path to the pros is pretty remarkable. With basically 0 college interest He attended a junior college in Colorado. He then proceeded to get exponentially better every single year of his college career, first transferring to Northern Colorado, then Tennessee in his final year and dominating at every single stop. Now, as he enters the NBA draft, the conversation becomes, “will he be able to extend that growth to the NBA level?” Today, we plan on answering that question. Many people admit that Knecht does a lot of things well, but concerns with defensive ability and age have held him back from being considered in the absolute top tier of prospects for the 2024 draft class. Today, we plan on looking at the pros of his game, the cons, and try to see how good Dalton Knecht could actually be at the next level.

    He doesn't need to pass on a team with Lebron and Austin, all he needs to do is shoot and space the floor for Lebron and AD. What a steal #LAKESHOW

    As a Vol fan who got an up close education on DK, well, he owned the two UK players drafted ahead of him. Looks like a guy that's been playing some NBA ball for a year or two already. He came to TN to improve his overall game and defense and he did that. He more than held his own in the SEC and dominated it. Most of the time it was him carrying TN. 37 against UNC? Only one other player did that in Chapel Hill against UNC and he matched it. He spends the most time of the players practicing. Impossible to guard high release. We've had some greats here at TN but none that I can recall that came in and elevated their game that much in one season at this level. LA's is getting a grown man that I think will make a big difference for the Lakers.

    The most effective thing Dalton did for TN when he was double and trippled all night and the night was slow for him, he pulled all that coverage off other TN players and TN everyone else on the team would be way up in scoring and drill the team. UK did this time and again and got beat for it. Many others as well. Doubling him all game has meant the rest of the team has a game.

    Did you change the screen cap during the draft ? Smart, that's worth a sub. Nice breakdown. Jump passing in the NBA will get you benched. 6'9 wingspan, 39inch vert, good athlete, means if he just a willing defender in the NBA that's a win. Lakers needed a more mature prospect who is ready play some minutes now & contribute shooting . Good solid pick by LA.

    I don't know much about the kid, but watching these highlights he kind of reminds me of Paul Pierce. Kind of looks like he's moving in slow motion due to his stride. It's difficult to guard those guys because timing is so awkward with all the start and stops. Slow enough to lull you to sleep, but fast enough to make you pay if you're not paying attention.

      Here on Rocky Top when he came to TN m ost of us Vol fans were like, "whose that dude", cause he was quiet and we though, this guy will go much like last year's transfer from AU who was supposed to be an elite 3 point guy. Right off the bat game time, we were stunned. This guy intimidated half the team. It was DK vs the rest of the team coming to terms with, "yeah, this guy's our dog leader". Can't recall a guy that had that effect on a team for TN. Than we were like, but can he jam it? Yep. Can he D, yep and getting better. But we all knew he could drive, drive, shoot pass and ally up. Very humble guy and he shocked the SEC. Everyone was like, and he's from where, what school? I didn't know there was a northern Colorado school lol

The great Kobe "The Black Mamba" Bryant (R.I.P) only played for the Lakers. And no I'm not saying he's gonna be Kobe. He falls all the way to 17th to a team that has a first time coach who happens to have been Born in Cookeville TN. Idk? Just sayin. Let's go D.K and let's go Lakers!!!!!

    Laker fan here - his game reminds me of Bogdan Bogdanovic, with a little less playmaking ability, 3 level scorer, excellent shooter, good size, decent handle, but his defense is really worrisome. I’m not seeing really any buzzsaw scorers off the bench playing deep in the playoffs anymore, unless you’re Luka Doncic you can’t be a cone on defense, modern winning teams will exploit this with ease, which makes him unplayable in high stakes games. His main objective this off-season is learning nba defensive schemes, getting sharp on his rotations and off-ball presence, and becoming atleast a neutral presence defensively, otherwise he has to become a 18ppg scorer to be playable deep into playoffs - am I wrong here?

    • @gwhite7136
      @gwhite7136 2 месяца назад +1

      DK's D got much better at TN. You also have to remember, his scoring more than made up for any D issues. He's D isn't elite but it's also not bad and nothing to worry about. Some of the best players in college could only get one steal or two a game from him and that wasn't even the norm. Off the ball-presence? Did you miss the highlights? lol TN's fastest D man Mayshack could not get a steal from him in any practice. Neither could most elite guards. They could get him a time or two in a game but when he's scoring 35 a game, who cares about one or two steals. You should worry when non-elite players pick a guy's pocket not the best guards in the SEC. Yes, your wrong here..lol He averaged 26 a game during the NCAA tournament. Do you have any idea how hard that is? lol. I'd worry if he didn't score over 25 a game in the NBA. The Lakers don't have a guy who can light it up like DK. I expect LaBron to but they needed a shooter and a driver. They got one.

    • @Meru112
      @Meru112 2 месяца назад +1

      @@gwhite7136 you’re totally right about his scoring prowess and how that can make up for defensive issues, but at this moment he’s projected to be a negative on the defensive end, there’s no doubt about that. So he’s gotta improve a lot defensively against NBA wings. I hope he can do it! I like his offensive game a lot

    • @gwhite7136
      @gwhite7136 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Meru112 That could be so, no doubt but there is one thing about this guy that is unique as a player outside of offense. This guy would practice harder than anyone I've ever seen in the SEC and I'm old. Barnes is the best defensive coach in college basketball and you can get if he's ok on D at TN, he'll be good enough on D to be a deeper level player. But than again, who in the NBA actually plays good D these days lol. Scores in the 130's lol.. I do know the one thing he's the best at and that is improving his weak points and the only one coming into TN was his D.

    • @gwhite7136
      @gwhite7136 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Meru112 I will say the only time you can get a steal from him was in heavy traffic on transition. And at most, usually got him no more than two or three in a game. Usually be very good guards at the top of their game and notoriously good at it. Bad at D was Jonas Adoo for TN. Horrendous and look where that guy is transferring to for the 25 season. Will be fun to watch how quickly he adapts but adapt he will.
