Does Bronny James Have More Potential Than We Think?
With the 55th pick in the NBA Draft, the Lost Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James out of USC. Typically, the 55th pick would garner nearly 0 attention whatsoever, with the player selected projected to likely play very little if none at all as a rookie, with a probable G League assignment expected, and possibly, never even making it to realistic minutes at the NBA level. Bronny, of course, is a much different scenario. The narrative surrounding him going into this draft was wild, with many people and publications even bringing up the idea that a team could take Bronny as early as the first round to “hold him hostage” so to speak and either force the Lakers to give up real assets to trade ...

There’s a lot that goes into determining what makes a player a top prospect in a draft class. You're always factoring in things like fit, production, NBA readiness, and desirable skill sets. But of course the number one, most exciting thing that everyone talks about is: what prospects have the chance to make that leap and become a true all star or superstar level player? Who has that superstar ...

Dalton Knecht’s path to the pros is pretty remarkable. With basically 0 college interest He attended a junior college in Colorado. He then proceeded to get exponentially better every single year of his college career, first transferring to Northern Colorado, then Tennessee in his final year and dominating at every single stop. Now, as he enters the NBA draft, the conversation becomes, “will he ...

Everyone is looking for the next Giannis in the draft. A late lottery to mid 1st player who is raw but ends up developing into an absolute dominant force that changes the direction of a franchise. The thing about a Giannis is, you never can actually predict it. No one knows who is going to make that crazy leap as a player, and who is going to stagnate and become a wasted pick. But you can TRY t...

Rob Dillingham has to be considered one of the most fun players to watch in the entire 2024 NBA Draft class. Ever since his Donda Academy and Overtime Elite days, he’s had viral video after viral video of his aggressive, over the top style play, and while he came under more control playing in the more organized system of Kentucky this year he still provided a ton of highlights while looking muc...

UConn was the first team to go back to back to back for the NCAA national title in well over a decade, and one of the only players that was a key cog for BOTH of those UConn teams is Donovan Clingan. In the first year, Clingan played a crucial backup role to dominant college big man Adama Sonogo, but this year, Clingan stepped in and became a dominant player in his own right, becoming a force a...

Reed Sheppard recently closed out an incredible season as a freshman for the Kentucky Wildcats, even with absurd shot making percentages and really high level defensive numbers, it’s rare to see a player like him as high as he is in mock drafts, but here we are. Many people are stunned he’s being mocked this highly, But there’s a lot of reasons it makes sense. Some people have expressed concern...

In winning the national championship this year with UConn, Stephon Castle showed that he has the ability to provide a major supporting role in an elite system. Providing great value as an offensive connector at the 2 guard position and defender for a powerhouse squad that had so much talent that it was hard to stand out. Castle doesn’t want to be seen as just a role playing 2 though, recently s...

While a great player in his own right, he hasn’t been able to avoid the connection (and the comparisons) to his older brother, Jalen Williams, of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The two most common names mentioned at the top of this year’s draft, Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr, both have a compelling case to go #1. Sarr with his athleticism, size, and general skill for a big, and Risacher’s shooting touch and well rounded game. Neither are perfect prospects though, leaving the window open for a different prospect to surprise and go #1 if they look good enough in the ...

NBA lottery teams, with the exception of very few, are looking for one thing only, and that’s a potential superstar to bring them out of the bottom of the league and back into contention. Finding a player like that is a lot easier in some drafts than others. Last year, for example, the Spurs didn’t have to try all that hard to find their future superstar. This year, however, things are a bit mo...

Looking at this year’s draft, there’s no surefire #1 level prospects like there were last year, so that leaves us with a much less clear picture of who should be going #1. Do you take a higher floor, potentially lower ceiling guy like Zaccharie Risacher, a question mark like Matas Buzelis, or, do you go with the guy with the crazy physical traits and insane potential despite pedestrian stats. This NBA Draft is a weird one. Last year, we had 3, maybe 4 prospects that would have been surefire #1 guys in this year’s draft. Wemby, Scoot, and Miller easily, with Amen in that conversation as well. The more I see of him play and the more he reminds me of Davion Mitchell, just bigger and taller. He's probably underrated offensively, he's very good at drawing fouls and he should get to the line more in the NBA, with improved handles and a better use of his speed he'll be able to create more space and should be a much improved finisher. With more free throws attempts a night and with enough 3pt reps in games consistently I have no doubt that he'll knock down over 30% of them very early, he shot 72% during the the 3pt shooting star drill during the combine and that was one of the reasons for the Spurs drafting him. Gregg Popovich will tell him to let it fly whenever he's open and his teammates will also encourage him to shoot it, we've seen the shooting improvements when Spurs players had the green light. He was also a much improved shooter during the tournament, had other flashes during the season, without the knee injury and if asked to shoot more you can only wonder where his shot could have gotten. Most of his performances also came in the second part of the season, his stats don't tell the full sotry. He looked very mature on the court and he didn't look like a freshman when he was handling the ball and directing the offense, he was a calming presence for Uconn when he was either running plays or making something out of what could have been a bad possession if he didn't have the ball. Always aware of the clock, of the game situation which is rare for a player of his age, sees mismatches and knows where to get the ball. He had some spot up contested and almost sped up jumpers that looked clean, all net and that will translate well in the nba, when he's in rythm and confident he looks like a guy that you don't want to leave open, there's also much to like about the floater and about how he gets to his spots. Most of his issues offensively came from an hesitation to take shots, even in the midrange he wasn't encouraged to expend anything there or to get many attemps, Uconn shot very few midrange jumpers and that wasn't part of their philosophy. I have no issue seeing him as a threat from anywhere on the court in the NBA, in two to three years if he becomes more agressive. When he's looking to score you can feel that he can take over games.
