Tidjane Salaun: WELCOME TO THE HORNETS | 2024 NBA Draft Scouting Report

  • Everyone is looking for the next Giannis in the draft. A late lottery to mid 1st player who is raw but ends up developing into an absolute dominant force that changes the direction of a franchise. The thing about a Giannis is, you never can actually predict it. No one knows who is going to make that crazy leap as a player, and who is going to stagnate and become a wasted pick. But you can TRY to predict it, and the player people have considered the closest to what Giannis looked like as a prospect is Tidjane Salaun out of France. Now, their play styles are not the same, but the narrative around their games are almost identical. Giannis was a raw player who had crazy physical tools but had so little experience or production against high level competition that he was considered a pure home run swing project. Salaun is the same. His tools and flashes are on the level where you could see him become a true superstar out of this class, but his raw ability and inconsistencies also leaves it as a distinct possibility he falls out of the league in the coming years. What version of Salaun will the NBA get? Today, we look at the pros of his game the cons, and try to see what kind of player Salaun will be at the NBA level, and if he truly is worth that gamble relatively early in the first. So with all that, let’s get into it.

    Very objective and accurate study for a project but I think with the mindset of Salaun and work ethics he will be at minimum a very good player

    His grip hand ... wow. Super glue.
    Needs to tighten his handle, and build a jump shot. He's more two level than three level scorer.
    Glad the Hornets head coach has brought in a very good shooting coach.

    I get that the idea of the "the next Giannis" can simply mean a mid 1st that ends up being great rather than actually being a similar player to Giannis, but this guy doesn't really look or sound anything like what Giannis was as a prospect. Could still be a good player and maybe we even see his development take a weird turn where he ends up being in the same style as Giannis, but I feel like their strengths and weaknesses as prospects (outside of some physical tools) are nothing alike.

    • @hoophierarchy
      @hoophierarchy  Месяц назад +6

      I agree with you. I’ve heard the comparison be made frequently that because he’s in a similar place Giannis was as a prospect coming in (raw, but extremely talented) that he’s the “Giannis of this draft” so it’s really moreso asking “is he really the Giannis of this draft like people are saying?” As opposed to me actually claiming he’s like Giannis as a player, which he is not.

    • @nublahozd
      @nublahozd Месяц назад +2

    • @guibblegabble1280
      @guibblegabble1280 Месяц назад

      They're not comparing anything other than potential. He is coming in as a guy that could be possibly great or a bust. Time will tell.

    I feel like we could’ve traded down to get him. Unless we plan on tanking, I don’t see him playing very much for the Hornets. Unless he’s looking like a beast in the g league. This will definitely put the new development team to the test.

    I love Salaun but he's no Giannis - at least in type of game.
    Salaun is more Obi Toppin, Aaron Gordon-esque level power forward with intriguing defensive tools and hopefully an improved jumper and that is still a good player.

    I want the Spurs to take him. He'll quite possibly be the worst player in the league on opening day. BUt he's just so bloody young, fairly new to basketball, and his measurables are insane. And I honestly believe if he's on the same team as Wemby, he'll adopt his work ethic because he looks up to him so much.

    • @hoophierarchy
