  • She’s in bloom! This is a climbing hydrangea, and she’s probably 20 years old. It’s the beginning of June here in the PNW, and this is when she is in all her glory.
It was growing here at our house when we moved in, so I don’t have the exact name or variety. But ours drops all of its leaves in the fall. There are some varieties that stay evergreen. If you’re hoping to add one to your garden, ask your local greenhouse what varieties work well in your area, and don’t plant this against your house! It is amazing at sticking to any structure or wall that it grows against. It will need a trellis initially but once it takes off it will stick itself to the wall/structure all on it’s own.
Disclaimer! We would never want this growing on our actual house siding because it would ruin it. But here, growing against the backside of our shed is the perfect spot and eventually she’ll cover the entire thing.
Happy Garden Days friends, let me know what other questions come to mind!
