The secret to knowing your zucchini is ready to harvest
The zucchini is ready …. When it’s the size you like! I don’t like ours getting much bigger than this because it seems to happen overnight! You’ll see it one day as a cute little babe and then BOOM the next day it’s too bit.
If you take the zucchini off when they’re small like this, it allows the plant to continue to produce more and they’re all this nice tender sweet Zucchini fruit instead of being tough and hard.
We get questions sometimes if we use the zucchini, flowers, and we don’t because we don’t have enough zucchini plants to pillage the flowers, instead we want it to focus on growing the fruit.
Here’s the real question, what point do you like to harvest your zucchini? Small medium o...

How to start another lilac bush from a cutting
Просмотров 29День назад
This is how you make a new lilac plant from a cutting! You might have heard it call propagating, that’s what you will be doing - propagating a lilac. It sounds fancy, doesn’t it? if the lilac that you are trying to propagate, has shoots, coming up from the base, dig several of those up, plant them in pots, and allow them to grow in a shaded protected area. Those shoots will turn into a lilac Bu...
Peonies and ants are friends!
Просмотров 8День назад
If you love, peonies, then you must love ants as well. The ants are truly the friend of the peony. That sticky sweet syrup on the peony invites the ants to come and have a little meal and as the ants enjoy that sticky syrup, it helps the peony blossom to bloom so don’t spray the ants off. Welcome them in and if they are still on the bloom when you go to cut it give it a shake you could dunk it ...

How to get your peonies to bloom all summer long!
Просмотров 17День назад
It’s TRUE…don’t tell the peonies we figured out how to get them to bloom all summer long. I’ve even heard some grandmas. Tell me they have saved their peony blooms in their fridge until thanksgiving! I have never been able to wait that long, but I have successfully held them in the fridge for several months. Here’s how you do it : - Cut the peony blossom when the bloom head feels like a marshma...
Don’t make this mistake when planting your tomatoes!
Просмотров 336День назад
One of the things we do to help our tomatoes grow into the BIGGEST plants possible…yes even here in the PNW we can grow big happy tomato plants!! The secret is to bury the stem several inches down. Take off any leaves on the bottom 4 inches of the stalk and then bury it to the point that the dirt is a couple inches away from the next leaf set. Your tomato will send out the biggest root system w...
How to get the longest vase slice for your hydrangeas
Просмотров 134День назад
Hydrangeas LOVE a dip in a Hot Bath … truly. It helps their stems to stay open so they can absorb as much water as possible and stay happily hydrated. This actually works for lots of different woodier stemmed flowers like Butterfly Bush, Elderflower Branches, Astrantia and yes I’ve heard lots of folks say they give their lilacs a dip on a hot bath as well! Cut the stems at an angle, then cut th...

Heres what to do when you forget to pinch your zinnias
Просмотров 245День назад
Oops I missed a few zinnias - they didn’t get pinched and now they’re setting on flower buds! Pinch them now!! I know it feels rude and wrong, but that little zinnia plant can produce WAY more - much larger blooms with much longer stems if encouraged to. So cut the top off the plant, right above a leaf set and watch it fill out, and get bigger! If you’ve just planted a fresh batch of seeds be s...
The trick to getting your butterfly bush blooms to stop wilting!

It’s spa time for our Butterfly Bush Blooms … this hot water bath trick works GREAT for flowers with woody stems like lilacs, hydrangeas and yes steamy water also works to help roses that have droopy necks! I worked so hard to get my rhubarb to grow, I've been afraid to harvest the stalks! Something I see with my rhubarb is the stalks don't turn dark red, some stay greenish even when large. I'm up to 4 plants, I'mm so excited!!! Two of my plants are from an abandoned rhubarb farm in puyallup. It was under development into a wedding venue and I had the chance to salvage some 🎉

Yes you can! get them transplanted before they get to big, Zinnia's don't like being moved after they have been established. You can also add some new seeds straight into your bed that way you'll have a fresh crop of Zinnias later this summer!

I enjoyed your video! Which city are you in? Is it similar climate to Toronto(Canada)? My tubers didnt make it through the winter. I had them in peat moss in paper bag in a cardboard box in the garage. They shrivelled up. I will buy dhalia tubers and plant them again and try your method.

So sorry your's didn't survive the winter! We stopped using cardboard boxes for our storage because they allow all the moisture to leach out of the tubers. It's why we started using the plastic totes with the fine wood shavings. The wood shavings keep the moisture balance in the tote while the tote itself keeps the moisture in. Storing tubers is such an individual climate, individual storage area thing to sort out. We'll keep sharing dahlia videos thru the season!

    • @ciderpresslane
      @ciderpresslane 2 года назад

Hello! We're in 8b near Seattle Wa. We get snow and freezing temperatures occasionally and the dahlias are still okay in the ground. Here's the secret to keeping them happy : plant them in a spot that gets REALLY great drainage so that the ground is not soggy thru the winter. When you cut the dahlias back in the fall or at the end of their growing season cover the area with a thick layer of dry leaves or mulch to insulate the ground. Our dahlias come back every year bigger and bigger! We have found that after 6+ years the dahlia tuber clump does need to get split or quartered to help it continue growing happily.
