  • Planting Climbing Hydrangeas - Fragrant Flowering Vine - In this video I plant 3 Climbing Hydrangeas against trees in my landscape. It will likely take a couple of years before they take off, but after that they will be covered in white fragrant flower clusters.

    Hello Jim! Love your videos! I just stumbled across this one where you planted 3 climbing hydrangeas on some trees. Glad you mentioned that they are very slow to start as I have one that was planted 4 years ago and although its now a lush 5ft wide and just about as tall as my 6ft fence, it only gets a random flower here and there so far. Id love to see an update on how yours are doing! I was hoping to get mine to crawl the entire way across the top of my fence which faces the front street and would add a beautiful backdrop to my garden bed out there. Thanks kindly and please keep up the great advice!

    Thank you so much for your very informative video. We have a climbing hydrangea in a pot and was going to plant it on the front wall of our bungalow. Thank goodness we watched your video. We have a tree that isn't brilliant, so we will plant it there. Two years ago we removed a Boston ivy that had really got out of hand. It wasn't easy, so we really didn't want to make that mistake again. Thank you so much for your expertise. Also your time and effort in helping viewers it is very much appreciated.

    I love your informative videos Jim. I’m delighted with my climbing hydrangea which was planted last summer, it’s April of the following year now and I see several blooms are developing. I’m in north West Ireland. I did read that the hydrangea loves water so I really did keep it well watered since I planted it.👌😊

    I had no idea that there was such a thing as a "Climbing" Hydrangea. I've got the perfect spot for one of these. Thanks again Jim ... Javier - Houston, Texas

    Thanks, Jim. I planted one of these years ago and it disappeared under the invasion of himalayan blackberries. You have intrigued me enough that i will try again now that the blackberries are being controlled.

    Know this is an old video. How do you train it up a tree? I've got one that I'd been struggling to keep up against the bark. not because of me. I'd used jute to tie it against the tree and allow it to grow upward, but I have squirrels, and they're stupid. It doesn't take long for them to chew it off. Trying to figure out the best way that will not harm the tree.

    Beautiful hydrangea! Every time I see one of these videos I want something new to add to the garden! I wanted to ask if you've had experience with growing deodar cedars? If they'd make a good fast growing privacy screen for zone 7?

    • @JimPutnam
      @JimPutnam  6 лет назад +1

      Deodar cedars are slow to start as well. They also get a hundred feet tall. So for most applications they are beautiful, but not practical.

      Thank you jim for the reply, and you're right that'd get too big for my backyard. Do you have any recommendations for a blue foliage evergreen? I've read that a korean fir could work here in GA but am I've not heard any one talk about it before, do you know of it?
