The only time they covered Rarity's jealousy of Fluttershy was in the episode with Fluttershy modeling Rarity's clothes and she became famous instead of Rarity. However, it was never explicitly about being envious of looks as it was more about popularity.
Well, Rairty does acknowledge that Fluttershy is super beautiful and when Flutters says that Rarity should model it, Rarity pretty much says Fluttershy will be the better model.

I think that episode is called "Green isn't your color"? Which, y'know, plays off the saying 'green with envy'. Fluttershy also tends to wear green-themed outfits, which I think shows Fluttershy's angle in the episode, she's only wearing all of these clothes because Rarity talked her into it. She doesn't actually want to be wearing them and showing off. The first outfits specifically chosen by Rarity for her to wear are *not* green, while every outfit (outside of magazine covers and such) Photo Finish has her wear incorporates green, or is entirely green. Rarity's envy only started after that first green outfit Photo Finish made Fluttershy model instead of the outfit Rarity chose, when her dreams were dashed in favor of Fluttershy. I'm probably reading too much into it and the design team just likes putting her in green, but its something I noticed.

actually!! the tantabus is NOT what made luna nightmare moon! in the dream realm, luna uses the tantabus to punish herself every night with a nightmare so she could never forgive herself, but it spiraled out of control in the episode and almost came to the real world :3 so the nightmare forces are probably still what turned luna evil!

Idea: could you make some of the villains or ‘nightmare’ characters into the protagonists and heroes? Ponies like Chrysalis being changed into good guys could be really interesting to explore as a concept! Love your content so much! Keep up the good work!

Love the add-on accessories you gave NM Rarity, it’s a major glow up and fits her character much more imo. Wonderfully done! And I do like the spin on her dark turn, the Snow White bit, as well as the tie-in ideas with the Nightmare Pony theme you described.💎💎
Spike always gets left out of stuff in the show, so what if he basically cosplays a Nightmare version of himself and just commits petty crimes but then goes back and makes up for them lol

I'd love an AU where one of the others was the first to crack but then ends up leading to the others also getting corrupted until we have a full-on nightmare mane six
I think we saw a bit of that concept between Rarity and Fluttershy in that episode where she became a model and Rarity was supporting her even when she was jealous, and Fluttershy didn't want, but she thought quitting would made Rarity upset.
Sunset shimmer is next for season 2

IDEA: Nightmare AU🌙😈
The story goes similar to the Nightmare rarity thing except whilst she is evil, in her jealousy of fluttershys natural beauty she steals an apple from Sweet Apple orchards and uses magic to make whoever consumes it become a monster
She then disguises herself as a memeber of the Apple family to give to fluttershy and when she consumes the apple she becomes flutterbat
Due to being a “monster” the animals now fear her and she loses her connection to them and retreats to the Everfree forest, where she is left vulnerable to the Nightmare forces and becomes Nightmare Fluttershy (still don’t have a good name idea)
After becoming nightmare fluttershy she begins terrorizing Sweet Apple Orchards to feed on their apples causing the family to be in a struggle.
Applejack distraught by the idea of losing the farm wants to protect it & her family at any cost, which leads to her corruption into Apple Hijack, who terrorizes Ponyville with her flawed sense of justice.
Any ideas to tie the others into it.
My end idea is that all the most important figures are corrupted by the nightmare forces
Celestia becomes Day breaker & destroys everyone’s sleep schedule.
Maybe Luna becomes Nightmare moon again and they fight for eternal day or night, with some areas having one or the other
Cadence becomes DIVORCE HORSE. And inspires hatred
The nightmare forces goal of spreading hatred & evil across the land is almost unstoppable, except for a some that stand up and fight for friendship
Starlight glimmer, Trixie, maybe Zecora (she deserved more on the show), spike, discord (more or less for friendship and more for Fluttershy), and another character that I can’t think of that will become the mane six of this world to replace the mane six that became evil and fix equestria

She actually gets an armor in the comic, it's gold with blue crystals, looks a lot like nightmare moon.
Okay, here's my suggestion and concept for your next part: What if Spike was a villain?
You discussed before the Mane 6's "nightmare-ification" would be based on them succumbing to their insecurities. Spike's is definitely him being "left out" of their friend group, he's the "unseen underdog" just like Stygian with the Pillars or Luna when ponies don't appreciate her night.
With him being left alone thinking if the Mane 6 were truly his friends, if they ever appreciate him, or if he was ever useful/helpful or worthy to them, it would definitely attract the Nightmare Force to possess him.
MAN i love love love the idea of nightmare rarity with opal too. like that's iconic, evil ladies need their cats and i will stand by this until the day i DIE

I would love to see more worldbuilding on this! The main six become evil versions of themselves leading to the only person that can stop them being Starlight Shimmer. She could battle them one by one turning them good each time she wins and joining forces with them to stop twilight and eventually Luna bringing back Celestia and peace to Equestria :D
they did touch on the rarity being jealous of fluttershy thing, in the episode with photo finish!

It was never explicitly stated what actually caused Luna to transform, but she raises to moon (causing an eclipse) and yaps about the night being forever. The tantabus was created AFTER lunas redemption and she says she created it to torture and give HERSELF nightmares as punishment for being nightmare moon
they did keep the jealousy trait for Rarity - in the episode with Fluttershy becoming a model :P

If this ever continues, I'd love to see Nightmare versions of Starlight and Sunset. I know technically, Sunset's would be based off the monster design from Equestria Girls, kinda like with Twilight's, but I think it'd be fun to try.
I love all your nightmare design of Twilight, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Apple Jack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Cadence, & Flurryheart, I don't know if you did Nightmare Moon & Daybreaker but if you did I will always love your artwork. I don't know if you did Cozy Glow in either Alicorn or Chaos Alicorn. I did drew free hand art of the Mane Nightmare six as magical humans like how Hextian made his MLP FIM Ooak dolls so I had to give them the Nightmare Sona's look.
I may have to try again & use your Nightmare designs to give mine a lvl 2 Nightmare forms, my take on for evil Pinkie pie I use Loki from Avengers his armor for some idea's but use candy & Ice cream for armor which didn't go well as planned so I'll try the clown vibe like how you did with your Pinkie Pie's nightmare form.

Honestly, Rarity's fall could be her nightmare, which has her friends taking advantage of her generosity. And this return makes it easy for the nightmare forces to get in.
