    I got hypovolemic shock today due to fluid loss. I have been searching for articles and videos and I think for a common man with no medical background it’s the best video I found. Many thanks!

    Hello !!! I love your videos !!! Your work is amazing. I just have one question. I have read that in hypovolemic shock we don’t use vasopressors as part of the treatment just because the SVR is already high in this kind of shock and the target of the vasopressors is the SVR. Am I wrong? Thanks

    I didn’t see lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting in the symptoms. Are those not commonly present with the other signs of shock? I ask because while donating plasma, I felt like I was going into shock. I had pale skin, felt hot and sweaty. lightheadedness, nausea, some vomiting, fast, shallow breathing, sudden drop in BP, mental confusion, and weakness. They had a bottle nearly full of my plasma and went ahead and returned my red blood cells. I began to feel better and was taken to a recovery room where they checked my pulse, which was normal, and my BP, which was 76/52. I drank a sports drink and when my BP got up 84/60 they sent me home. More happened after I left which included excessive vomiting and being taken to the ER and given more fluids, whereupon it was decided that I was simply feeling faint because I was scared of needles and blood (Face palm here because I’m a phlebotomist).

    Good morning. Please what do I do for someone whose electrolytes reveal hyperkalemia 6.3mmol/L slightly raised sodium and slightly raised glucose who is hypovolemic as a result of possible internal bleeding after surgery. My 2 choices are Ringer's lactate or 5%Dextrose + 20% albumin. The first is recommended in the guidelines but the second seems safer so as not to increase electrolyte levels. So I'd love to know if IV fluids replacement using Ringer's will worsen the electrolyte imbalance. Thanks.

It only last abit after i throw up though then i feel completely fine, other than the fact that i have a flesh wound😅

    Hi ICU Advantage! When is specifically albumin indicated in comparison to fresh frozen plasma?

    • @ICUAdvantage
      @ICUAdvantage  4 года назад +2

      Great question. There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding between fluids. In the case of hypovolemic shock, most often this is caused by bleeding and in almost all cases FFP would be our go to. In a pinch, you probably have quicker access to fluids and albumin so they may be used as a quick reaction until FFP was available.
      Now if bleeding is not the source, then we want to consider if the patient has available volume in other areas such as the 3rd space which could be drawn in with albumin. If that isn't present, such as in dehydration, then we would consider fluids. You just have to remember how it is that albumin aids vascular volumes and then think is that an option to tap in to.

      Theres a lot to unpack there. For starters, with hypovolemic shock, you need to replace the volume. First and foremost.
