Yes!!! You had me at full-length mirrors and hooks!! That's exactly what I look for as a guest in an STR, even before I started listening to your awesome podcast!!! Love you guys!
These are such great tips! One of my biggest pet peeves as a guest is not having a place to hang towels and toiletry bags in bathrooms! Interesting about the ceiling fans. We’re in the process of getting our first STR ready and all the bedrooms have ceiling fans, which I’m personally not a fan of and was considering swapping them out for chandeliers, but now I think it makes sense to just keep them!
I'm right there with you on the fans! Honestly for some of our listings it's just a pain during out quarterly cleans to get up there to clean them... Highly recommend Breezeway.
We will be starting to host in about a year, so meantime, I'm soaking up all the info I can. I do agree about the convenience of hooks for 'stuff', but I don't think they are great for hanging wet towels as they are more likely to get a musty smell because of the long drying time. It seems to me that you could lengthen the life/freshness of your towels by having a drying rack for them. Has anyone tried these? I see them priced under $200 and I think they are a bit of a luxury item that guest would enjoy while on holiday.
I respectfully disagree about the recommendation for white fire extinguishers in the kitchen. I mean, if you’re really concerned about “the right look” in your *own* kitchen in your personal house, where you already know where it’s located in a pinch…sure, go for it. But in a rental property that your guests are unfamiliar with, as an EMERGENCY item that they’d be frantically looking for in a high-stress situation? No way. Part of the point of it being bright red is that it’s easy to spot and easily identifiable as a fire extinguisher…which is what guests need in an emergency. Aesthetics are very much secondary for this item.
Very True! Many cases the white fire extinguisher is used in properties in which the owners have very strong opinions about the aesthetics. 100% agree on the reason it was made red and noticeable!
Hmm... I agree with most of this but not all. We stayed at a place with no rug under the table and no pads under the chairs and with the high ceilings the sound of the dining room chairs scraping on the floors was a cringe every time. No one wants to be awoken early to that sound! Get a washable rug! Also, If I had to chose between a king bed with ONE nightstand or a queen bed with TWO nightstands I would absolutely chose the smaller bed! Everyone wants their own lamp and a place to charge their phone at night! Otherwise, they have to drag a chair from somewhere. Also, cloth curtains with all the people coming through seems really germy to me as they arent going to get washed.
We love the feedback! The rugs under dining tables is just a safety issue with us. However, we know that rugs like that and pads play a huge part in dampening the sound.

Love this! Yes a few of our more spacious bathrooms have drying racks. It's all about the experience for your guest.
