It’s actually a pretty commercialized song on this album (for a modern rhcp song). Heard it on the radio several times. It has a music video and everything. No mention of the fantastic work by Chad? Killer drum work in my opinion. Personally, this song didn’t catch my attention the first few times listening through the album but it grew to be my favorite track.
Nice reaction/review! I didn't know this RHCP track, so I'm glad you put it on my radar. They got a little stale in recent years, but glad they're bringing back some different takes. I like their takes that are a "little bit weird", and really the last time they leaned into that, IMO, was on their One Hot MInute album (the one with Dave Navarro). Some of the melodies in this newer track reminded me of One Hot Minute.
You should have a listen to John Frusciante on Rick Rubin's Broken Record podcast. He talks about how he comes up with his chordal progressions. I think you'll find it interesting.
John came back and he was completely accumulated with chord progressions 😅 weird couple of albums they released in 2022, but with some really great songs

That was the attraction of the song to Anthony. He said John came to him with these chord progressions that just kept building & building & changing in the style of The Who. This was the second or third single off their first album of 2022 “Unlimited Love” which was the first album back with John Frusciante in 16 years. It’s not a huge hit of theirs but like I said it was one of the singles off their return album which they also made a video for. Chad really shines on this song.

I recommend u check out i stand alone by godsmack, good chance you've heard it but still a powerful one to revisit
