PowerSmart Snow blower Jan 2024-my not so good experience

- This particular 24 inch snowblower, Model# PSSAM24/DB7109A, did NOT give me the good experience I was expecting after watching many reviews, etc. There were 4 bolts missing that went between the augur housing and the chassis which I went to the hardware store to replace. Then I used it for the first snow, and the motor struggled any time I was in snow, even half bites as you will see. It got through most of the job but it wasn't easy, and when I walked away leaving it idling to move my car, it quit, never to run again despite troubleshooting it. I'll try some more when the weather improves.
I'm wondering if the choke was still on. It sounds like the rpm's are low. But from what I've seen in your video so far you are doing things right. In deep wet snow like that just take it slow and steady. The wet snow takes a lot more time than the dry powder. But that snowblower still beats a shovel, trust me on that lol.
The choke seemed to be working the way it should. I tested it for function while the machine was still running.
Great video..having a few issues with mined but testing there.. thanks..
Sounds like you have an engine issue. Carb adjustment isn't right, choke is on or something.
Governor, governor linkage or stuck throttle butterfly.
I just found this blower on sale and order it hopefully I won’t regret it but it should be better than my little electric one it’s the end of February so probably done with snow on Long Island. That snow looks pretty deep and heavy I think the machine did a decent job.
I hope you have good luck with your. I saw many videos of happy owners before I bought mine. Yes, the snow was moderately deep and heavy, but I was only taking half swipes. It DID do a decent job, but once it died, that was it.
Oh so it did died on you sorry to hear that I’m always on a budget so when I saw it for $298 dollars with free shipping I went for it let’s see what happens.
Rick that heavy wet snow is hard to clear with a much larger blower. Stay warm. Jeff in LA USA
True dat, but this machine should have done a better job. Especially on the half bites. And then it stopped running and could not be restarted.
sounds like the choke was open when you were running it when you start it let it warm up with the coke open as it warms up close the choke this will make it run better made the same mistake with my first snowblower
First cut in deep snow is always a challenge. Run it full rpm always, run it in a low gear on the first cut. I put 2 nickles under my scraper bar and adjust the feet to that height. You aren’t going to be able to eat the entire width every pass do like 1/2 to 3/4 of the blower. I had issues with the single stage blower I made a video of. Their 2 stage blowers seem to be made decent. I got the biggest gas model they make, it seems like you are a bit undersized for the amount of snow you have.
Yeah, no throttle adjustment on this model and the feet were adjusted higher than that. Made no difference if I was taking full bite or 1/8th bite. 24 inch blower, 212 cc motor is no small machine. Plus it died while sitting idle.
@@azzir325 did you put the right weight of oil in it?
Yes.
You have water and dirt in the carb. The water is the popping sound you hear. When you first started it the engine was rolling. Indicating a clogged jet.
Thank you. When the weather improves one of the first things I intend to check is the carb. One question though...how do you explain the fact that the engine did not fire even when fuel was poured directly into the cylinder head?
@@azzir325 While your at it. Check your valve clearances. They could be loose and sloppy.
No detectable clatter when it was running but will do. Thanks.
If the carb has an air filter take it out. My neighbors blower had a filter and stored it out side it would clog up with snow a starve the blower of air lower the rpm and power similar to what yours was doing. Once we looked at it and removed the filter it ran like a champ. Also a little water in the gas especially if you store it out side could make it run like that. Might have knocked some snow in the tank if it was covered in snow while checking/filling the tank
Thanks for the tips. This is a brand new machine fueled in the dry with new non ethanol fuel.
I'm not familiar with this brand, but I have never seen an air filter on a snow blower. Snowblowers typically don't have air filters. Had a Husqy years ago, no air filter, neither of my Toro's have air filters.
@@PatrickFaricysnowblowers dont need air filters. theres no dust in the winter time lol
@@jonnysnipes3123
Just saying, air filters on snow blowers clog up. Neither of my current snow blowers have air filters, my friends machines don't have air filters and manufacturers don't put them on their machines......maybe there is a reason for that?
@@PatrickFaricy air filters are to protect the carb from getting particles inside that would destroy your engine. in cold weather theres no dust or particles in the air because the air is damp so that is most likely why cold weathered equipment like snowblowers can bypass an air filter. smow flakes getting in your carb intake isnt going to hurt the engine like dry gust of saw shaving or small particles being stirred in the air would if they got in the carb intake
Look at that sucker blow! Looks like heavy snow.
Breaking through 😂
Pretty awesome 😎
It blew. Then it sucked! LOL!
@@azzir325 you may want to try spraying the chute with silicone spray
Yes, I may want to use some silicone in the chute. But the chute isn't what was slowing it down.
I'd say not machine as much as was the user not fully reading manual.
I'd say, as the user, you're wrong.
the problem with that snowblower is the weight. its too light so having small tires is also a down fall but if you put bricks on it or something it wont get stuck
Why isn't the choke off?
James, I'm not sure what you think you see or hear, but I promise you, the choke was off as soon as it warmed up.
Make by Amerisun inc. A Chinese company, won't last long for sure!
Wet snow aside, the engines that com on these "PowerShart" machines sound terrible.
⚡️⚡️GREAT STUFF⚡️⚡️I’m glad I found your channel I look forward to seeing more of your videos📺 I do mostly TRANSFORMER Stop Motion 🎬📸🎞️ I hope you enjoy my animation‼️ 18:40
Turn up the RPM's and let it go to work.
How do u turn rpms up???
You don't on this machine. There is but one speed.
Every one I have owned has a throttle to increase the engine speed.
@@azzir325 I guess you never noticed it had no throttle on it. I just did mine driveway with the heavy snow... Turned that throttle right up. Put in 2nd gear and that yard men walked very slow up and down the driveway
Not sure what you're saying. I DID notice there is no throttle on it, and it wouldn't run right on 1/2 bites, 1st gear.
You’re better off waiting on the snow to melt than have a heart attack with that piece of crap.
Looks like heavy stuff. If so, youll have to go slow with it, regardless of this or another machine.
Snojet does help a bit. Depending on your engine, highter octane helps ever slightly.
True, not the lightest snow, but I WAS taking it easy, and 91 octane non ethanol fuel. And did I mention the machine was sitting idle when the motor quit?
@azzir325 If the machine was new did you run the break in oil for a little and change it to fresh oil?
Could also be a carb issue
No. I did not change the oil. Total run time before quitting time was about 40 minutes. Been cold and I have no indoor place to work on it but I did check spark (yes) and put some fuel directly into the cylinder but it refused to fire.
@azzir325 still leaning towards the carb being the culprit but could be a kinked line or a vapor lock issue where your not getting the proper air to fuel ratio.
Worn oil does make a difference but with the stalling it could be an issue.
If possible can you dump the fuel and use some tru-fuel in the blower to see if it would make a difference. It has a strong cleaner in it and ethanol free bit does take a little time to work it's way through.
Good of you to make constructive comments. Carb is definitely suspect, although the fact that it didn't fire with new fuel in the cylinder is puzzling. Can these motors jump timing?
You need something bigger..but it is workin.
Actually, my driveway isn't very big, but I am old and fat and tired of shoveling. This machine should have been plenty, but it isn't working, won't even start. Brand new! After Amazon refunded me I bought an Ariens 30 inch deluxe, but we haven't had any real snow since.
Problem solved@@azzir325
@@azzir325 There you go, the Ariens should work like a charm for you, many years to come.
That motor seems to lack power.
I'm hip!
First time using it??
Ist and ONLY.
@@azzir325 Man has to know his limitations
@@azzir325 time to sell and get a really good used one.
Not using ethanol gas are ya? If so you may need to take the carb bowl off and clean it.
Nope. Ethanol free high test. Thanks!
