    That's a damn fine looking boat. Those Kiwis build some great boats.

    Nice boat.
    Can someone explain to me how a flare 200mm down from the gunnels or 6feet above the running water line makes any difference to ride?
    Plowing into a 2m wave it might help a smidge for spray, but will do nothing for ride surely .

      No they cant

      I agree the flare likely wouldn’t change the ride. If anything it’s the weight of all of the thicker/extra aluminum in the boat.

      It creates a finer entry and softer ride. To have the same entry with flat plate would mean an extremely narrow boat that would sacrifice the foredeck size. But where they come into their element is creating lift when you are in a following sea.

      @sparks873 Год назад +5

      The flare allows for fine entry bow for the majority of the freeboard (good for almost everything but a following sea).
      Then, in a following sea (where a fine entry bow would normally want to nose dive/bury in to a trough) the flare creates reserve buoyancy higher up in the freeboard to help create the lift needed to bring the nose back up after hitting a trough

      @@Rexy888 yes my stabicraft is great in a following sea, but its wont run anywhere as nice as one of these into a sea.

      Quite similar lines to a Dickey 8m. Another NZ legend. From an Aussie living in NZ, the metal boats leave Aussie boats in their wake.
