I've stopped playign wvw entirely as a result of this system. I had a guild I ran with for organised runs, but I really did not realise just how much I enjoyed the server community of pug commanders that I knew for years and played with in off hours. Thats gone and can never come back and I miss it so much.

So spot on! There is so much to do to make this work better or go back to servers again and make that better with what anet learned. Instead they ignore us and are not responding in any shape or form on the most simple questions. And some people still belive matches are better when nothing have changes from Servers. The one up and one down is a proof of that Arena Net have no tools that change anything but the first match after refhuffle of people. After that it is the one up and one down that decide as it been since they removed the glicko system and replaced it with one up and one down. Which was better then the glicko but in the long run not working well when players could abuse the system and moving servers which was very normal in EU more then in NA. Yes it happen in NA but again huge difference between EU and NA around this.

  • @KitTheTraveler
    @KitTheTraveler Час назад

Yeah.. I took a break from WvW and came back to the changes and legit they need to revert it all back to way it was. Because it feels 100% as what you said. If they wanted to make things lively again.. tournaments. Sigh.. WvW always and will be my fav. though the changes are rough to make me enjoy it like I did before these changes.

Totally agree with every point, WVW was the best MMORPG mode I've every played and now it's totally ruined. And I would emphasize I no longer feel connection with the new "team" system knowing as server before, I mean back then even if we were going to lose a match-up or garrison I would keep playing and dying for the server and names I know but know nah I simply log out I don't feel like I have to fight a losing battle and it's going to change each month anyway!!

  • @IckyGuy_08

The reason Anet made the changes in WvW is because of low population or players. Unless population drastically increases, not much will be changed or "changed back".

'low population' - funny, I had more queues before this WR bullshit than now...

0:51 this is not 100% true, because we weren´t promised ANYTHING. Alliances were a solution that the players themselves initially proposed and tried to flesh out (which can still be found in the archive of the old forums). ArenaNet only said that they are "PLANNING" to implement them (this is an important difference), but they NEVER promised to actually do so (they even said that they may iterate onto the system if the need arises). And we weren´t promised changes to the tiers either, dunno where you got that from, but in neither the first overview in the new forums (which is effectively the first statement ArenaNet made on World Restructuring) nor the blogpost about world restructuring from June 2022 even mention anything regarding tiers. So that statement is factually false. Same with manipulation, this was NEVER even mentioned by ArenaNet, and it´s also a thing that no system in the world will solve, since you cannot force player-behaviour, only discourage it. The UI revamp was also ONLY shown in concept, and in context of alliances. But alliances (at least for now) were deemed too much effort for too little gain and was (for now) scrapped. And since we´re currently working with a guild-selection, a UI-revamp wouldn´t bring any benefit, as all the functionality is already there. And the API: that has already been updated, though it took some time. Selected WvW-guild, current WvW-team of the guild and current WvW-team of the player are already in the API (it even displays the new teams once the new teams got locked in, aka 3 days before the actual new season even begins)
02:01 unless ANet outright bans alt-accounting, this is a thing that will never change. It was an issue with servers, it can still be an issue with WR, and neither is it an issue WR (or anything you could do) will solve unless you outright ban alt-accounting in WvW.
02:15 this is wrong, the API DOES indeed contain your selected WvW-guild in the "wvw"-permissions.
~ 3:00 unless ANet changes balance to discourage blob-v-blob-fights, this will always happen. And if you pay attention to the balance-patches, ANet considers large-scale the primary way of play in WvW. This has always been the case ever since release, and is fundamentally anchored in how GW2 operates in its core. And due to that, it won´t ever be changed (completely putting the fact aside that world restructuring isn´t even involved in that, since large-scale combat arises from game-balance and its fundamental system, NOT population-balace, the primary "target" of world restructuring)
~ 3:44 well, trying to convince a commander you like to follow into joining a guild that YOU are also in, is straight up trying to force someone else to do as you please. Which is a good thing that you can´t do that. It should never be allowed to force a VOLUNTEER commander into something they don´t want (or can´t) do. That´s the very definition of egocentricism, and not healthy for any kind of game.
~ 4:16 reminder: scoring-changes are NOT related to world-restructuring! it´s a seperate approach to balance out matchups. And yes, it didn´t work out, but it also NEVER got even implemented correctly (especially in EU, where they messed up by implementing the NA-version).
~ 4:47 again, this is NOT a problem caused by world restructuring. this has always happened with special events, and it is also nothing any change to population-balance-systems (which world restructuring is) will change.
~ 5:24 this is objectively wrong. a new player has the option to choose a team. they will only have to aks their friends which team they are currently on. And WvW has ALWAYS been a very hard to get into mode, due to its high complexity and skill-differences. by choosing the team of people you know, and joining a guild, you actually get MORE opportunity to actually get into WvW, because you can learn from experienced players directly. Also, four weeks is not a problem, considering that some servers were near-permanently full. So depending on where your friends were, you often were literally unable to join them for YEARS.
~ 6:23 the old server-system was not polished AT ALL. if it would have been, they wouldn´t have had the need to introduce server-linkings, and discussions about a rework would never have emerged to begin with. and especially linkings have impressively proven that population-balance did NOT (not even remotely) work out under the old system.
~ 7:20 solo-roaming is completely unaffected, since, as the name implies, you´re solo anyway. small roaming-groups can always make their own guild to stay together, so that´s also not an issue (especially since we got a 6th guild-slot SPECIFICALLY for that purpose). Roaming has been dying for YEARS due to various other reasons (rewards and game-balance in particular), you can´t blame a system that doesn´t even directly interact with it for that.
~ 7:25 again, you are talking about game-balance, completely unrelated to world restructuring.

I wasn't gonna comment, but here we go.
      - Pedantism, both the two forum posts and the more than one blog posts outline what they were working on. Thus this is what we, as players, should be counting on would be the core features of WvW Restructuring. Sure, they never specifically used the word "PROMISE", but that's being pedantic and then you could also start to correct my grammar now that you're at it.
      - Alt accounts were used as an example to cover my behind, should another commenter jump in and way "what about alt accounts? you can still manipulate matches with those". You didn't hear what I said just before mentioning alt accounts.
      - The API doesn't have any info, about who has picked which guild, based on your guild. A guild leader can't pull a list from the API with the players who's selected their guild as WvW guild. It's all done under /account, not /guild/. And a tool that's been asked for for months is a small column in the guild panel that shows if the player has selected THIS guild as WvW guild. Guild leaders shouldn't educate themselves into programmers just so they can consume data in JSON format, put it into Excel (or whatever), and keep a list of who's with who. Adding a column to a table with a tick icon or not can't be the hardest in the world for a UI developer. Trust me, I am one.
      - WvW Restructuring have emphasized blob vs blob fights. Fitting a 20 man guild into a border is impossible unless you start queueing an hour before raid time. That's my point. And "large scale" shouldn't mean "entire map vs entire map" in my opinion. Funny if this is a thing 12 years after release.
      - I think you're misunderstanding. I'm saying you, as a player, are forced to pick between trying to convince a pug commander to join the big server guild, or play with your other guild that you raid with. Sure, nobody should be forced to join a guild. But if you want both worlds, as a player, then you're forced to pick between those two.
      - Reminder, I mention it as a side note, and also mention that the scoring system was scrapped again.
      - The lack of features, of which I mention in this video, shipped with WvW Restructuring expose the issue with long queues. If you gather into large guilds (as a result of alliances not being shipped with it), queues are longer as a result. And if you add events like WvW Rush on top of it (which they have been running twice since the beta went live), it will only make queues worse - worse than they already are.
      - A new player does not always have the option to pick a team, that is fact. Look at the countless forum posts, even look at players reporting in the WvW Initiative discord. I have even run into this issue on a few alt accounts that had never seen the game outside Heart of the Mists. And again, if you're a new player, with zero knowledge about which guilds you should join to get on the correct team, much is left to the players themselves to figure out. And many just give up. I'm aware of the long periods of full servers, trust me. I was on Gandara which was closed for 10 months straight, without a link for 8 of them. But just selecting a team within the new Restructuring system was meant to solve this. It just doesn't seem to be working every time.
      - The old server system was arguably more transparent than this new system. But if you see Restructuring from a bird's eye view, we basically have the same thing but with new names that change every 4 weeks. Nothing has basically changed on that front.
      - How can you say solo roaming is unaffected? Solo roaming IS effected in the sense that there's no room for them. And sure, roaming players can just form guilds, but why on earth would they? Being solo means exactly that - not playing with a big guild but on your own. Restructuring is ruining this and I think that's a sad idea. Mainly because I also enjoyed roaming, but for all the other roamers as well. Again, exposed by the lack of a match-making algorithm, and a new system that favors big guilds taking up 90% of the shard as a result of alliances not being shipped.
      - Idk, summarizing.

The K/D seems to be very decent across all matchups with most k/d above 0.75 for the lowest team.
Also what is much less common is people triggering the tactics on keeps followed by an attack and enemies reacting to team chat faster than your allies. People used to have alts on all servers.

It's a bit of a DUH moment when you say better matchups and don't understand you're removing server discords that are 100% of the organization for matchups. I made a forum side game account name to explain why removing "servers" would result in diaspora and exclusivity, but no on listened, and here we are with diaspora and exclusivity. Most guilds discords now don't allow anyone to see their secret discord notifications for forming up and they run private/hidden saying they want content while 40v1'ing. its because they are trying to match make to make it more balanced, and the truth is that some guilds play at a bronze level, some at a gold, etc. so whatever level your guild is playing at, there are only a couple other guilds at this same level, so you will keep seeing them. one really big problem is that all the strong guilds are banding together and forming an alliance, so it ends up being like 2-3 guilds in every "elo" always fighting each other.

Pretty much agree with this. Just going to go on a little bit of a personal-experience and rant since i just don't bother with reddit and the gw2 official forums are just trolls hating on anyone who doesn't like the 'better, new thing'.
I personally enjoyed WvW for oh.. about 6 months before the sudden flip to beta-fulltime crap we have now. I managed to make Warbringer and hold onto a few GoBs, but not enough to get everything I wanted. I was planning on working on both Conflux rings.. but that plan flew right out the window due to this. I was a casual player as I only had a few hours a day I could devote into WvW. Work late warehouse hours so I'm never around much for Primetime. I usually hooked up with Aussies in my morning as it was perfect to their evenings. You can see where this is getting worse and worse for my ability to find the right group here.. heh.
I didn't care to be in a big dedicated guild because I DO NOT want to deal with leader drama and whiners who think I need to sell my soul and give up a living wage just to make their numbers look better. If they were more casual, they want you on discord. I work, I'm tired. I don't want people yapping and yelling at me to do xyz. I watch, I pay attention, I supply and build.. Direct me in game or bugger off. Which ironically I'm told the same if i'm not willing to subject myself to Discord chaos. I guess just targeting something is too much work these days. I liked roaming too, doing my own thing or randomly joining up with a few others. Had a great ol' time with some folks from Japan. We were a lovely lil havoc bunch that needed no communication, just some simple markers and common sense.
Was Boonball already bad? Yeah, AFTER they nerfed corruptions and removals. They've left certain classes to completely dominate and their answer to that was to nerf Celestial which really did nothing. People are lying to themselves if they think that was truly the issue. Lets not mention how downright criminal its been to leave so many exploits available. People screaming to 'nerf stealth' instead of saying to ban PORTAL from working in wvw. Pretty much cuts down a huge chunk of shenanigans. If a singular person is still taking a T3 garri then its time to start looking into that class or admit there is a 3rd party program problem. Which they won't ever admit. Too busy patting themselves on the back with a 'job well done' on this mess of a mode.
The people telling others to 'just get a guild' or saying people have 'rose tinted view of the past' erk me the most. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain with this 'pulling the ladder up behind them' approach to WvW. It favored the already large guilds and their toxic af boonball meta that got even more precious after the switch over. I hate to be the next person saying favoritism.. but its hard not to call it out here. Especially just seeing what does and doesn't get nerfed in the process of 'balance'. Oh and, of course, getting mad at PvErs who -have- to join to get legendary materials and wanting them out of the mode cause of the precious queue numbers.. good lord.
It has severely hurt new players coming in as well, as its even more closed off and elitest-toxic garbo with the fear-mongering of 'omg u a spy!' and barely ANY commander wanting you around. I was on Sanctum of Rall.. it wasn't exactly the biggest server, but the comms that did run were mostly decent. I didn't have issues roaming or getting into a squad. It was league better than Sea of Sorrows and the constant weird sociopathic comm who called anyone new a spy and would kick from squads. I fail to see how the new system helps that in any way besides just making it less desirable to even bother with. Oh just get a guild.. oh you play only a couple hours? Well this guy plays 8+ a day sooo we're giving him your spot. kthxbye .
I usually support and give some leeway into their thought process. But the team behind WvW needs to go to actual game design school and stop modding an MMO. Cause thats what it feels like. Both with WvW and their hamfisted balances to classes and it REALLY shows it just former players turned devs outta desperation. Explains the favortism too.

As someone who didn't play on a full-pop serve with tons of commanders, 24/7 coverage and dozens of dedicated high-level guilds who constantly pumped resources into every friendly structure... WR is exactly the same as what WvW used to be. Roaming is a cess-pool of overtuned builds and constant 4v1 duels, EB is consistently qued no matter what matchup you're in, and 'blobs' run the gamut between pugmanded bag delivery services and coordinated full-comp wrecking balls. Ultimately it remains a competitive mode, so those guilds/alliances/communities which can organize and improve themselves ultimately steam-roll those players looking for a casual PvE experience in a game mode which encourages player vs. player competition.
I think what we're seeing from this video and the outcry elsewhere on reddit and forums are those players who 'had a community' but refused to join guilds and took their server for granted. I can see why someone would be upset when the game mode suddenly became so much harder to enjoy because the community you took for granted no longer exists to prop you up.
The obvious, and frankly easy solution, is to find a guild you enjoy and build the community you want for yourself. It doesn't get you add revenue on youtube or views on twitch, but it would enhance your enjoyment of the game.

Tbh I don't think anet know what they're doing or what they want to do with WvW. Would think WvW would be a play space for GvG, but they use EoTM (to essentially fight as a private lobby lol) and EoTM is a entire abandoned map....
I think they want to keep WvW as a pug stomp. Before the most irritating thing for me was match imbalance in population and getting stomped for 12hours until people log on. I think the new match system we have now helps with that, but I don't think it's what Anet had in mind after release. Maybe that part of the team got the boot?
Either way I would say what we have now is more tolerable and more difficult for people to manipulate, but still have mixed thoughts on if it's something Anet will improve on.

I’m a new ish player, had to do wvw for gift of battle. I work during the days and come and play late at night and wow, nothing would happen on wvw. I prefer zergs cause I’m very new to PvP so I don’t wanna constantly roam and die. But there was never pub zergs, if there was, it was stomped and then the comm left in shame. I woulda if I had the comm tag but 300g ain’t ez to come by. I don’t wanna sound like I’m a whiner but watching old wvw gameplay it looks like a blast compared to the slow n slug fest going on. He explains pretty well how it FEELS to try to get into wvw as a new player 😢

The entire game, not just WvW, was way slower and more methodical and by an order of magnitude more balanced than it is now. It wasn't perfect, but it made sense.
As far as WvW is concerned, 2012-2014 are some of my best memories in gaming. WvW was very competitive during that time period. The sheer scale of fights (the map cap for players was larger) and the coordination was just on another level. People had server pride and knew each other. I could go on but I don't want to bore you, I'm just saying, you sadly missed out big time.

This is just my opinion. I am a NA player. I started playing in GW2 Beta and only play WvW with the intent of roaming / havocing. EBG is qued on almost every matchup all the time. It may sound silly, but they should either remove EBG, or make every map the same as EBG with a castle to hold in the center. Maybe this would make some people would spread out across the borderlands. Most of the time I will be running around a map and not find anyone to fight. Second, my biggest concern with Arenanet is that they don't communicate with their community. I've been playing a lot of Old School Runescape recently and it's incredibly nice to have their developers actually respond to their community members and often times will stream any upcoming changes that may potentially make it into the game. Jagex (the Old School Runescape Devs) also poll the community on what changes those members want to see. This system works soooo much better than any other that I have seen. I never hear anything from Arenanet until the changes have already taken place. An example would be the patch that made the camps and other capturing circles smaller? Who even mentioned anything about them? It's been 10 years and NOW you decide to change them randomly? It could be that I'm not looking in the right places. I wish they would just talk with their different communities WvW / PvP / PvE and discuss ways on how to make our, the consumer, experiences more engaging and enjoyable.

I am at one minute in the video, and I have several comments already on highly problematic aspects on this video :
    - we were promised an alliance system as they thought with was an overcoat of the guild system rework. Alliances were never meant to replace the bigger guilds, its only goal was to allow smaller guilds to do some kind of a "pseudo-fusion", in order to reduce the administrative work of moving every one from guild to guild. They scrapped it because it was not seen as so urgent since players already did the fusions.
    - better, performance based, MU. No, the main aspect of the algorithm is the number of hours played by the players. We did have the confirmation in July they also factored in the average period of activity, as well as the number of players that are usually leading squads. If performance was to be taken into account in the algorithm, it is after all these factors (and performance was never announced as a major factor anyway...)
    - no more tiers, algorithm. No, it was never promised. This is straight up fake news. I even went to check on the posts they made in 2018 when they were just communicating "concepts" and found no traces of stopping the tiers.
    - less to no manipulation. Well, except alt-accounting, which is very limited and not always match manipulation,
On a more general note, I do have the impression over the last 2 months of play that the current problematic aspect that make players quit the game is fighting clouds. Currently and in the preceding linking, the 3 servers in EU T1 were all inhabited by cloud. It's also at least the case for 2 of the current T1 servers in current linking.
I don't think the solution to the current situation is getting back to servers. In fact, I think it would in fact be very detrimental for the future of the game mode.
What is needed, imho is :
    - a true and consistent LFguild system for all players, but especially for newer players.
    - allowing players that did not select a wvw guild to select a team amongst those their guilds were assigned to, once per MU, and this even if they are regular players.
    - getting rid of the tiers, and replace it with a system that would sort linkings much faster - or abandon the idea of sorting altogether
    - ui support to find and search guilds that are in your match up (and not on mists)
    - making winning your weekly match matter (and maybe ppk weight a bit more in the final result). The goal of that is mainly to motivate fighting guilds to cap and defend structure. Which also means that you have to give them what they are looking for : fighting other players, as hitting on a wall for 20 minutes under ACs to find no one ti fight once it is down is antinomic ot the very concept of fun.
As for the reasons I think going back to servers is not a solution :
    - the community gaslit itself into server community nostalgia. On all servers I knew, guilds were just tired of the constant drama, of the never ending "map sharing meetings" that no one listened to, of the hecking politics that was into making your favorite zerg build higher on the discord's tier list. If you take look back several months before WR, it often devolved in big swearing exchanges etc.
    - servers were carried by their bigger guilds. The commanders that took openings and were not circled by their guildmates are counted on the fingers of one hand. The only commanders that could afford to open a tag and get shit done were very long time players, and I only know of one for the 3 servers I was active in.
    - which also means guild could easily die on servers
    - server were a bad thing for the game, the only thing really detrimental is that WR is "too little, far too late".

Idk, i've had a good time. Returning after 3yrs and had some good large scale fights. Roaming still feels the same tbh, thieves and engis and bunker eles trying to 3v1 you.
I just want more people playing the mode and world restructuring feels like it's doing that.
A lot of the burnout may be from the power creep of certain elite epecs and permaboon nonsense.

  • @McMarc_1993

At first, I was very sceptical at the whole concept of it. I loved my server of 12 years and would have never left if the WR didnt happen. My main concerns were a lack of community going forward and about the fact that match manipulation could be easier, since you can get a new team every month at no additional cost.
A few months in now and I can say it is not AS BAD as I thought. I am embracing the new and seeing new faces each month also is kind of nice, even though the server communites had to die for it. Now I see old faces every now and then when the algo puts us on the same team, its quite cool. SO overall I'd say it's not a complete failure, but they REALLY need to work on their inital seeding for the worlds (strong and big worlds have been starting in low tiers for every matchup since WR started, which is terrible and stupid) and get a new reward structure in place.
If not for our beloved communites, we need a REASON to keep going. I recently hit max rank and UD, so my motivation to log in has shrunk regardless of WR, so the only thing that would hook me in again is a better ranking/ladder system for guilds, a reward for the work we put in each week and better distribution of team into the tiers.
Overall, I give WR a 5/10 in execution but I remain somewhat hopeful for better updates in the future.

I have a wish they add something like:
-2% dmg done and +2% dmg taken for every allied player within 10 meters.
Meaning a blob can fight a blob similar to now if they wish, but blobbing to much against clouding becomes weaker!
Hopefully making fights more interesting then 2 blobs preferbly standing on top of eachother!
I think it could work to incentivise more spread out fights!

What you fail to acknowledge is why they were making world restructuring. Player base has only ever gone down because the combat is bad. Massively worse compared to when the game released.
They had to condense the player base in this manner but by doing this it kicked the legs out from under anyone still playing simple for server pride. Switching back is unlikely to bring all those players back.
Fix the game play and the game will have actual growth. I’ve said it multiple times. GW2 Classic when? GW2 current would literally die if they did it.

a new WvW player here. Not really a PvE person, I never have been. What I enjoy in a MMO is theorycrafting builds and then trying them out in duels with other players. Well, since some genius decided it is a good idea to strip players of all their gear in PvP and give them an extremely low choice of amulets/runes instead, I guess PvP is out of the question.
Then I find WvW. Awesome, lets try someone to duel!...Wait. That turns out to be a pretty chalenging idea.
    1. There is no arena or a place where you can have a fair duel without risking someone interfereing? Why???????????
    2. EBG map is constantly full 24/7.
    3. People either run away from you or fight you when its 4v1.
    4. If you happen to come accross other roamer, he is ...perma stealth thief.
And so on, and so on. It is literally mindblowing to me that there is nowhere to go to duel people in this game, or am I missing something? If not, why? They dont know how to make it?
