I could listen to Mick talk about the music in Doom forever
Our love for his music is "eternal"
:)
I could listen to Mick talk forever. The guy really knows how to draw in his audience.
Same
Mick Gordon seems like such a cool guy, wish I had the pleasure of meeting him.
me too.... (everybody would like it...)
Yep, that crazy Aussie bloke! :)
Skip to 6:50 for start of comm~
*NO, FCKOFF*
I adore Mick's work on Doom and the recent Wolfensteins, but what really cements my admiration for him is just how genuine and passionate he is. He speaks so confidently about what he does without coming across as intimidating or arrogant; you feel like you could ask him the most mundane questions about his music and he'd still give you an incredibly insightful answer. Plus, he's an Aussie, and it's great to hear your own accent in such an awesome context.
He's a really good presenter actually. He made this pretty interesting to watch.
If they make another Doom without Mick it better be because he's retired or dead. For me, the music in Doom is just as important as the BFG. They're both iconic.
doom without mick is like porn without a dick
I'm from the future, Mick is the composer of DOOM Eternal :)

Mick Gordon - Doom OST
10/10 - Made me to buy two more chainsaws.
27:40 OOOHHH so that's why that synth sounds so sick! god i need to try this.
LOL, that flashback.
RIP Mick Gordon and id working together ever again.
If ID reboots the original Quake. The soundtrack should be a collaboration of Mick Gordon and Trent Reznor. If I had to pick only one to do it though, then definitely Mick.
MattSipka yes. They better do it. I would pick both...
Best. Idea. Ever.
Pretty sure Mick is pissed with id and Bethesda for screwing up his music mix in the official release of doom eternal ost
@@vixenvicky3842 It's definitely Bethesda's doing. id are pretty irritated too from what I've heard.
Not anymore since they seem to not want to work together :-( Altho Trent wouldn't be such a bad replacement. At least for Quake.
That clicking sound from Imp's Song hit me like a nostalgia train when I first heard it in new DOOM! I recognized it immidiately and that funky bass guitar started playing in my head.
whole damn OST hits you like a heavy nostalgia train...
I loved that they used it so much in the new Doom - it was always a severely underused song in the old Doom.
I didn't notice the Kitchen Ace riff in the new soundtrack though - I must be a fake old-Doom fan then XD
Typanoid check out Andrew Hulshult's remake of the OG Doom soundtrack, these two guys should do a collab
Track name for it? I'd like to hear and compare it (or just a timestamp here).
Mrster um... Imp's Song, like I said?
I could listen to Mick talk for hours, he truly gets it.
Everytime he plays his music, I get the chills.
Such talent.
🚓? 😂
So glad he did Killer Instinct and DOOM
He would be a good choice for Mortal Kombat too!
Would *LOVE* to own this soundtrack on Vinyl. So Brutal.
On Floppy!
Not surprised that the soundtrack is Meshuggah influenced :)
fedrick thordendal actually took the 9 string guitar
The man is a genious.
*genius.
Pauls Thanks dude (without sarcasm)
***** I'm partially italian myself and I can understand why an italian-speaker tends to type "genious". I used to do the exact same mistake just a few years ago, and at some point someone on the web corrected me. God bless him...now it's your turn to be corrected! From now on, you have the power to spell "genius" right. Life IS a Metroidvania...
English IS weird in terms of how you spell stuff, native speakers would misspell all the time if it weren't for spell-check
cheers
@@pauls1555 this man is a genioius
So did Mick do the Composers version of sliding into the DMs
MaCkDoPy pretty much
Mick Gordon is my new idol artistically
That is too nice to write hellish music like Doom.
Mick Gordon is a gem. His passion is infectious.
what a humble, cool and highly intelligent person.
my new inspiration I guess.
Whew what a great talk!!
I'm guessing you weren't supposed to film this even either haha
well im happy he did
Definitely a genius in the way he can interpret elements of a franchise and incorporate them into his music.
I respect him most for the fact that he knows how to respect the source material with anything he does; Wolfenstein made tons of references to the original soundtracks as well, I'd love to see a panel on it.
"one of my best friends is from meshuggah"..
Notice me senpai mick!!
I think it's wild that you can have music that isn't on the soundtrack but it's in the game meaning every time you play there's a fresh experience waiting.
God it's so fucking awesome that this dude literally fucking used CHAINSAW samples to make some of the music in this game. That is the most badass thing I've ever heard of.
had to laught at 6.34 where everbody thought the video is over :p lmao
Thanks to who filmed and uploaded this video. Mick is so talented and he seems really cool.
The man's name is Mick Gordon, not Gordan.
Thanks for letting me know. I've updated the video.
get some wd40 on that tripod mate
Soviet Polyvox rulls! :D
Kinda funny looking at this and hearing the question about a DOOM live show after seeing the performance during the Game Awards. Just wish the audio for the broadcast was mixed better.
I love that for this and the KI panel, the solution to making an iconic theme is to slow it down xD
This was really cool.
I really enjoy muscians that think outside the box.
That flashback at 16:00 is wicked! I love Mick
welcome back on DOOM Eternal Mick
what a nice fella, and audience as well
Mick Gordon is the Hans Zimmer of game soundtracks
Cool guy, really knows his music
TAKE THAT "SO FRESH"
It wouldn't be Mick Gordon if there was no power ranger reference.
I love the choir piece from e1m8
In the end you could tell he himself was vibin to bfg division
The soviets did something right, even if only one thing, they made a synthesizer that gave us some epic doom music nearly 40 years later
Really cool vid. Thanks. And what a soundtrack. Really amazing. Hope he was serious about the vinyl plans.
Amazing composer
24:00 ayyy Doom eternal ost sneak peek
Great vid! Very insightful too :)
fredrik wrote. some songs... for the game? whoa.
He’s such a cool guy
I dig it. I dig it a lot.
Loved the game soundtracks!
Its so cool seeing people hyped about what they are doing. Super nice presentation.
Doom Soundtrack on vinyl! Yes please!!
i wish i lined up 2hours beforehand instead of going 2 minutes before it started
didint think it would be completely filled out thx for the upload
I've never played doom, don't care for all the demons and the pentagrams and though it draws some inspiration from the Bible, it's not enough or really get me in on the demon killing action, but the soundtrack is incredible. The visceral noises, the thiccness of the guitar tone, the aggression, all of it is just one big bundle of whoop ass.
Seems like a cool ass dude.
Mick Gordon is my waifu
What the heck? I have no clue what to say to this XD
I was there! This was the last panel on the Friday of PAX in 2016, really late and we were all exhausted. We got to the queue late and were lucky to get in, sitting on the back row. I wasn't quite sure what to expect other than the panel sounded cool. This is still the best event I've seen over many years of going to PAX. Mick Gordon was just frickin' brilliant and blew everyone away. We are not worthy!
2:00 kmac mating call
Those audio equipment snapshots on the screen really remind me of the covers from NIN's Ghosts album.
Does anyone know what the choir's latin actually translates to (or if it's just gibberish latin :P)?
...
On a side note, did you actually hear what the wrong answers to Mick's questions were in the audience? Wrong answers generally say more about the people giving them than right ones, and that's fascinating to me.
Jesus fuck the bass on my speakers!
Mick Gordon playing the Chainsaw 2016, Colourised
A little disappointing neither he nor anyone else pointed out the variation he made of the title track from Doom 3. I was kind of wondering if he purposely changed the composition and just kept the elements of the original or if he couldn't because of rights issues and whatnot. (the track is Flesh & Metal on the leaked release)
Brandon Blume official soundtrack is Harbinger
McSuto
Yes, bought the official soundtrack right after watching this and discovered that. :)
Brandon Blume yeah the soundtrack is amazing. A little fun fact: did you know that the song Rip & Tear was originally 20 minutes long? Mick Gordon had to cut it down.
Yeah, the video mentioned the entire soundtrack is 5 hours long lol. I can imagine pretty much all of these tracks on both the official album and the earlier internet rip/leak are quite condensed. Really want to see it live. I'd finally make my first trip across the border to Magfest to see that if he went there.
What! In the Behind The Music footage he said it was a 9-string guitar, not 8. >:(
Shredd he used multiple different guitars during recording. 7s, 8s, and 9s.
Yeah most likely. But in the BTM videos he specifically shows a 9-string and talks about the riff. I tried with my 8-string and yes, that riff downtunes to territories beyond.
I would imagine it's possibly also to do with the fact that the 8 string is a much higher quality guitar with hugely improved pickups over the 9. The Schecter 9 he uses contains EMGX pickups which aren't the most articulate in the low end.
His Mayones 8 (which he used to perform at the Game Awards) was also in the BTM videos, just used on different songs.
He sold his 9 string.
Pitch shifter or a baritone scale length 8 or even 7 could pull it off.
Who knew Djent would be the perfect music for doom
what a cool fucking dude.
Mm yum
which song was the Q&A guy talking about that didn't make it to the final soundtrack cut?
I believe Mick Gordon said it was a riff from "Rip & Tear" that didn't make it into the official soundtrack album.
You can find it on youtube
Mick should collab with The Enigma TNG
27:23 Chainsaw used as a instrument
My film teacher is named Chris Hite! XD
✌️🥅🏐🏐😂
44:33 - - that is all.
this dude did not use a fucking chainsaw for MUSIC
How stupid is Microsoft must have been to treat this devoted and charming genius the way they did with Doom Eternal. They must have been the biggest pieces of shit ever to work with for this absolute chad to resort to throwing in the towel and saying he wouldn't do it again.
hold your horses there fanboy. First of all Microsoft wasn't involved with Doom Eternal. Second It was a problem at both sides, the deadline for the soundtrack release was extended several times in addition to what was in the contract. id Software released an open letter detailing the whole situation to the fans, you might wanna read it.
@@crust5909 mick recently responded to that open letter it might be worth reading to catch up.
what sound in 1:37?
ps: Mick is ****ing cool
Inferno - Killer Instinct
if i would go to hell i would go in witha shotgun and mick gordon with his music
You might want to fix the typo in the video title
😢 pay mick 😢
He's the steve Irwin of music
the song at 24:07 i think is called hells keep and is not in the sound track
mick isn't the guy to have a high pitched voice with his music
48:27 bottom left
what was the band he mentioned in the questions segment?
imacookie12 iron maiden?
imacookie12 ohh Meshuggah
Is he vocoding his guitar tone? I have the sneaking suspension that might be the case. Listen to how even the high notes he plays have this sort of boomy low end and how the noises sound when the gate is triggered. I know he uses FL Studio so vocodex would be a regular part of his toolkit. I wonder if we'll ever know for sure.
hmm, I wonder why his eqiup had russian/cyrillic names near dials at one moment (mixer, etc)
He explains this in the video - it was a Soviet synth called a Polyvox (transliterated)
GORDON* at least show enough respect to spell his name right..
The soundtrack is so heavy that it creates its own gravitational field
