- Yesterday's introduction to Maestro via a Doctor Who clip, released on RUclips, sparked some mixed feelings for me. While the character's musical introduction was clever and hinted at their supernatural essence, there were aspects that left me uncertain.
The use of musical terminology and the portrayal of Maestro as a larger-than-life figure were highlights, but I couldn't shake concerns about potential overacting, particularly given the character's theatrical nature. Nevertheless, the costume design, possibly inspired by Jinx Monsoon's drag aesthetic, was exceptional, though there were minor gripes about makeup execution.
What intrigued me most, however, was showrunner Russell's insight into the episode's concept, revolving around The Beatles' music rights. While this angle adds depth for Beatles enthusiasts, it raises questions about its impact on viewers less familiar with the band's legacy.
Is "The Devil's Chord" a quintessential Doctor Who tale? Perhaps not, but it promises an engaging narrative set against the backdrop of 1960s London. Reviews suggest a mostly positive reception, though its resonance with Beatles-agnostic Whovians remains to be seen.
Ultimately, while The Beatles subplot adds flavor, it's the central characters and their journey that seem to drive the story forward. As we await the episode's release, I'll keep an eye out for how it resonates with both die-hard Whovians and casual viewers alike.

I think the overacting really illustrated how screwed the Doctor thought he was compared to the Maestro.
The over the top-ness of Maestro worked really well I think in the end.
After my initial skepticism about the over-acting Phil i couldn't agree more :)
I actually enjoyed it.

It was fine. I could put up with maestro much more then the talking toddlers in "space babies"
The second episode was better I do agree and I hope it just goes up from here if I am honest. Did you have any specific favourite moments?
@TardisTalks I liked the fact it wasn't the doctor that defeated Maestro in the end but John Lennon and Paul McCartney. I thought that was a touching tribute to their contribution to music and to the world at large and spoke to Doctor who's usual message that anyone can be heroic (even of they don't realise they are being so)
@@Gazaraki89 This is a really good insight on this episode, not something I actually thought about myself, but now you bring it to my attention it is a really nice detail to the climatic end of the story as essentilly Ruby and The Doctor was screwed without them two.

After the second watch, I realized its one of the best episodes they've ever done.
Its really a weird one for Doctor Who but it just makes sense to have this in the overall arc of the season too. but agree its amazing.

i think the new cast are great but my god the stories are dreadful, so far the writing seems worse than Jodies first few
It's going to get better as we get deeper into the season and things start to ramp up a bit, a lot of introduction and information that's had to be shared over the last 2 episodes so hopefully from next week we can just enjoy the story and adventure 😁.

youtube has been recommending so many shitty youtube channels, so I've just been telling it to not recommend loadsa rightwing channels... the thumbnail for this made me tell youtube to never recommend your channel again coz it comes across like those shitty channels... i've attempted to reverse that, but it's hard to tell if that worked coz it's all very nebulous.

To be honest ._. i did not enjoyed the new chapters of the season, and this doesn't belongs to the cast like Ncuti Gatwa or others,
The Full cast, they are wonderful actors/actress...
The problem it belongs directly with the plot, the script, the direction of the episodes ._.
its turning on a High school musical with doctor who in the name ._.
to be honest I really do miss the organic humor as we saw it with D.Tennatnt, Eccleston, Math smith or Capaldi.... that fantastic, sci fi and dark stories that keeps a glimps of an organic humor with a lot of cleaverness and ficticional science.... complicated situations that get solved and sometimes it leads to a tragedy...
That is what is missing in this new doctor who... stories ._.
If I'm not wrong I heard that Moffat will return? is that true?? because if is true... that will make a turn of 360° taking us to what supposed to be....

I wouldn't bother mate. There's a reason why it's called series 1. Because it has nothing to do with doctor rtd is a psychopath inserting his own ideology to try and brainwash kids. In one of his interviews he even said the messagings for the kids. I'm surprised its still getting 2 million views. The programmes degenerate I'll never let my kids watch. .
It's not Dr Who. It's Disney+ shite.
Disney doesn't have a say in what changes are made to the show they can only suggest changes but Russell and the BBC have the final say.
@@TardisTalks It's Series 1 on Disney+ and it has singing and dancing, mate. The villian looks like Grotbags. It's no longer scifi but a fantasy show with magic.
@@papalaz4444244 God forbid a musical ep have musical elements. And in the end it was pretty good, with similar elements to RTD1 era. Also DW has never been pure sci-fi too, science fantasy always.

Could’ve sworn “The Rings of Akhaten” was an episode based around music, and countless Christmas Specials with singing and dancing. But to mention those and the declining standard in writing over recents series takes away from the “blame Disney” dialog.
Space Babies was so fucking bad that Devil's mid felt like a masterpiece. (And just to avoid being accused of anything unbecoming, I thought Jinkx was far and away the best part)
Drag queen- don't care, message- don't care. It doesn't matter to me what it's trying to say or who's in it. I care about how it says what it's trying to say and what everybody who's in it does with what the script gives them to work with and how that script deals with its subject matter. I care that the previous series had some good actors, but gave them (at best) a mediocre slog of indistinct matter that was designed to be as inoffensive as could be accomplished while name-dropping as many current issues as possible without risking offending anyone by actually exploring anything at all. In short, through no fault at all of anybody in the cast, the Jodie Whitaker era was churned into a material that had the ingredients of something compelling and possibly interesting, but instead felt like episodes of The Magic School Bus without getting messy and making mistakes, or really anything that might have given it a chance of being at all memorable, or compelling, or even effectively delivering whatever message it was intended to carry. I care that Disney has seemingly made it a mission to reduce to meaningless rubbish everything it comes to have influence over and I care that whatever stories Doctor Who may yet be capable of telling may well be ground into uninteresting, but meaningless massively digestible, statistically and politically inoffensive mush by a mechanism of corporate and political entities that probably can't even remember what they're trying to say, or whose side they want to be on. :(
The Scripts were fine.. There was humour/depth and mystery. The casting is impeccable with Ruby and The Doctor having not only amazing talent but also amazing chemistry between them, so maybe it's just that the show is not for you. It does seem to me that you may still hold the show to the standards that you didn't like during the 13th doctors era but the show is far better from those dark 3 seasons of doctor who.. keep watching who knows you may like it by the next christmas special :)
@@TardisTalks Actually I wasn't commenting as to the quality of the new series since I haven't seen it and probably can't until it's available without subscribing to Disney + (when/if it's on disk). I was expressing my concerns, based upon what was wrong with the previous run. I'm encouraged to hear that the writing has gotten better as it had, IMO begun to slip during Matt Smith's run and further during Capaldi's tenure and, frankly the writing angered me during the Whitaker seasons because it's hardly fair to hire an actress to helm a controversial portrayal of a beloved character and then give her dreck to work with.
How can anyone still watch this trash at this point?

Why do people watch this show? The two episodes I had on in the background last night, were completely cringe, full of virtue signalling, terrible acting, tacky BBC cgi. Ugh, what's the appeal?
