I can relate to your father. I just turned 36 years old and and we were almost 7 years together when I found her cheating with a married coworker this past April. Just look your father I was also considered the “ideal man” by most. I was born in Europe but grew up in the USA. I’m multilingual and speak 4 languages. Honestly that should’ve been my red flag not to marry her but I wanted to “save” her and give her a good life with a normal family. Before we started dated when she was heavily pursuing me, practically begging for my companionship I had expressed to her that I would not partake in a monogamous relationship, but all of my sexual encounters would be purely sexual. She agreed and also agreed that she would not be allowed to be with other men. Her agreement and being aware of what I do makes it a situation that does not emotionally effect me. I am not attached to her because I do not allow myself to become 100% attached. I do love her and enjoy our time together as well as how we can complement each other as people. Before we started dated when she was heavily pursuing me, practically begging for my companionship I had expressed to her that I would not partake in a monogamous relationship, but all of my sexual encounters would be purely sexual. I am not attached to her because I do not allow myself to become 100% attached. I do love her and enjoy our time together as well as how we can complement each other as people. It’s is. Takes a lot of inner work and getting to know the real you, though. These truths are great and get you going, but the traumas and old beliefs need to be crushed/released on a deeper level first while putting yourself out there getting uncomfortable on a daily basis.
It's possible, you just have to identify the moments of life when you're in your most alpha state, practice staying in that mindset in any situation and grow it until it becomes your dominant mindset. Might take a while but as something you use grows, the things you stop using atrophies. This applies to mindsets as well. But a fair warning, you will suck at it in the beginning which will turn the people around you off because 1. you're being fake which technically you are but it's temporarily necessary in order to find your way into reinventing yourself, and 2. you are interfering with the position in the hierarchy they've established for you relative to everyone and everything else in their lives which makes people uncomfortable. No one likes when the person they thought they were way better than starts to close the gap.
